I'm all for watching more BW from HD, but IMO the time has long passed where we need to "grow the BW scene". That time is over, I'm going to let it pass. Let the diehards always be the diehards and appreciate our first love... trying to get new blood interested in a 13 year old, graphically relatively unattractive game (comparably to competitive games of the last few years) especially when its cute heir is struggling so hard to make it big, would be an exercise in futility.

Why did you even bother posting here?

I think BW is way superior visually. Regardless of your advanced "graphics", it's like comparing a beautiful portrait to an indiscernible pack of shiny flies.
The real exercise in futility, is your post.

Why is it always either sc2 og BW on TL? I enjoy both games.

I started playing broodwar 2 weeks ago because i got bored of sc2, and I have much more fun playing broodwar. Broodwar is not only for diehard, I enjoy the game more and it's not my first love, sc2 was my first competitive rts. I'm not playing a game to make "esport" or whatever big, I'm playing to have fun, and I will watch sc2 streams if I feel it entertains me I don't feel like I have an obligation to do so. tl dr: I played sc2, then broodwar. I prefered broodwar, i will not go further in this debate but I need to say that bw is not only for diehards.

To starstrider:
Dustin B himself said "go watch BW", if you want to seek qualities that were lost in SC2 (he admitted it even), so people are there. Curiosity maybe?

Mad props, HD, but please dont call them the old days T_T

Indeed, BW graphics have a certain crispness to them which allows for a better overview of the battlefield even at low resolutions, while SC2 simply looks better at 1080p and maxed video settings. On topic: "Missile Turret Wall of China"
Edit: removed the part where I'm too opinionated

trust me, after a few weeks you'll be picking up sc2 again. i played bw before sc2 came out, then played sc2, then bw for a while because it got boring, but now im back to sc2. i mean i wont say it's only for diehards, people could come back to play it just for something different, especially those who havent played it before. In the end though i do believe the graphics plus improved, more user friendly mechanics in sc2 will bring them back to it.

Pretty sure hes just referring to the old days meaning when he played, aka when I played 12 hatch was the standard but im not 100% sure if its still the case today.

I've really enjoyed HD casting the BW games. It's got me into downloading and watching more BW games. Brood War is just so much fun to watch I'm loving it.
Keep up the good work HD I'm loving your cast to.

Both games have their appeals. Some people like one and not the other, many (myself included) like both.
I've found, though, that MBS and the easier mechanics don't make SC2 any more enjoyable, but the clock totally does, because I can get a sense of timings very easily. I never know when the hell to expect mutas in bw TvZ, and I'm always a little too late with turrets. Game sense comes with experience, of course, but it's just my personal feelings on the matter.

You guys are better off watching Sayle casting proleague or Nuke they both have huge extensive knowledge about the game and they are still casting broodwar even before sc2 started popping out in to the new scene . Don't trust me ? listen to nuke the stars commentary on 2011 finals osl and for Sayle all the game he cast's are worth watching .
HD has been out of the loop for a very long time and sure has to take some time to recall his previous knowledge about the game which will suffer in terms of casting quality . Although the two commentators , I have suggested above in my opinion are just on a different level compared to hd .

This is amazing! I still have my theory that HDstarcraft is actually CholeraSC from wayyy back ago.

Woo GO HD!
Also guys give him a chance, hes been casting SC2 for a long time, it will take a while before he remembers everything from BW.
And holy shit 1080p!!!! I wish we got that quality in proleague T_T
Lol as soon as I saw that I was like, its gotta be Flash.
And i was right.
10 star defense rating ftw.

Zergs don't always use the same spire timing anyway. 2 hatch muta comes out a lot faster than 3 hatch muta, and even more so the 12 pool variant. You shouldn't rely on just timing to drop turrets you need to keep your scv alive and scan. In BW scans are free, and lings have to surround workers, so you don't need an in-game clock.

Hyun qualified for Code A, when less than two months ago he didn't even know about the inject larva mechanic. In the same way that ForGG's success led to SC2 fans giving BW a second (or first) look, I predict than Hyun having success in SC2 will also be good for BW, just because people will be going "Of course Hyun is crushing, he was a non-shit BW player!"
So, I'd say expect more SC2 personalities mixing in the BW, and HD doing it more (as he said he would in the third video)

Hyun was no scrub -_- , I like his play style but others may not agree with me , of course he will owned in sc2 , he still has that fighting spirit he initially didn't want to retire out like this from broodwar , but no one was picking him up T_T .
Hyun fighting ...... I will support you in sc2 .

As long as he doesnt keep calling Goons "Stalkers" its fine with me.....

Ahh good, a defeatist. I love proving you guys wrong- it's become one of my favourite pastimes since SC2 came out
