This year's Korean e-Sports Awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, December 28th, 2011, 7PM KST, at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Winners:
Map of the year: Circuit Breaker Rookie of the year: By.Sun Protoss of the year: Bisu Terran of the year: Flash Zerg of the year: Hydra Best Coach: Lee JiHoon (KT) Best Team: KT Rolster Player of the year: Flash Popularity Awards: Jaedong & Bisu Friendship Award thing: Light
As you can imagine, the biggest debate is on whether or not Bisu or Jangbi gets the Protoss Award: most wins in PL vs. first Protoss OSL win in 3 years.
T: Fantasy- Flash was godlike in 2010 but hasn't made it into 2 OSL finals this year, which Fantasy did. P: Jangbi-WInning an OSL is way more impressive than Bisu's achievements imo. But Bisu is still going to win since he's more handsome. Z: Jaedong-His ZvZ has slumped this year which knocked him out in many important tournaments. But his ZvT and ZvP still blow Hydra and Zero out of the water.
This is a popularity contest so I do believe Bisu will win best P but Jangbi should win, the first P OSL in 3 years is way more impressive, especially since he had to take out the two best TvP players to do it and a solid ZvP sniper as well.
It has got to be Jangbi. 63 wins is insane sure, but it's the OSL man. Plus The Legend of the Fall was fulfilled! You cannot deny him the title of the best protoss. I would say Flash as the best terran and Hydra/Jaedong for the best zerg. Hard to choose since JD did poorly (by his standards) in individual leagues but did well in the team leagues, and Hydra got that MSL.
Rookie of the year is Sun for me. The guy has looked better and better everytime he got in that booth and he looks a real talent. Circuit Breaker for the map and KT's Lee Ji Hoon for the best coach. Best team goes to KT/SKT1 and best player goes to Flash. Friendship award? No idea what that is. Most popular player is JD!!!!!!!
Bisu imo, 63 wins is just beyond anything, yes an OSL is nice but Jangbi slumped his way through it and wildcarded his way aswell.
Zerg of the year, I don't want to answer this question
Terran of the year, Fantasy, back to back OSL FINALIST, winning one of them ,didndt fail in playoffs, however Flash played as solid as ever and brought home MSLs, so I am not sure
actually I am just a huge fantasy fanboi so w/e
Best Coach, SKT coach, despite them losing the finals, I do believe that SKT has the superior coaching, you dont run 2(or 1, not sure) perfect rounds without it.
Best rookie, Sun, gotta hand him, he is really impressive
So yeah, triple MBC win
Best map, Circuit Breaker, it just feels right, Icarus is stupid close air, La mancha is stupid for TvP AND PvZ Benzene is alright but it doesn't beat Circuit breaker, Circuit breaker is simple yet effective, only the third gas can be hard to secure but thats about it.
Also I'd suggest to add polls so TL can have our internal voting! (Yeah, I know. Bisu will win by a landslide...)
And on Most Popular Player, Stork is less popular than Stats in Korea? Srsly?
Ah, good suggestion, I'll add that.
And I think the nominees for most popular player are just the same ones that were nominated for each of the race awards. Don't worry, Stork is far more popular than Stats, lol.
rookie: sun toss: bisu terran: flash zerg: this really is a tossup... all three have reasons to win and not to win coach: coach lee is probably going to get this for the PL win MPP will be bisu
Best protoss should go to Bisu IMO. Jangbi won the OSL which is amazing...for a protoss. Bisu set the record for proleague wins which is amazing, period.
Best Z is a tossup between JD and Hydra. Hydra was slightly better in individual leagues and JD was slightly better in teamleague. The edge is razor thin and you wouldn't be wrong picking either.
Best T goes to Flash obviously. Fantasy was slightly better in individual leagues but Flash was miles better in proleague.

Frienship award goes to Zero and Soulkey.
Totally agree with your protoss statement. If he doesn't get best protoss, then give him best player but we all know that's, by default, going to flash -_-;;
Circuit Breaker, Sun, and the ACE coach, Song Dongkyoon, for sure. ACE best team, too... okay, maybe not.
Flash over Fantasy for terran. Poor Sea, was a tough year with his TvZ and that group of death ... The achievements are close but Fantasy was incredibly inconsistent. 20-19 in regular proleague is so underwhelming for an ace player, not to mention that the manner of some of his losses were fantastic (sorry).
Hydra seems obvious for zerg. JD and ZerO had tougher ZvP competition but even then, Hydra was boss in ZvP and even more so in ZvZ, and the results came. Mediocre ZvT and his lack of killer instinct in playoffs (though his teammates were worse) are the main things stopping him from being player of the year. (Also, his overall competition was weaker than, say, Flash's.)
Honestly I hope that JangBi/Bisu split best protoss and most popular player. Bisu for best P and JangBi for popularity seems to make the most sense, though.
Everyone has major strikes against them for player of the year, but Flash has the least. Oh for it to go to JangBi, though... for eSports!
Best map: Circuit Breaker Rookie of the year: By.Sun (SK Telecom T1) Protoss of the year: Bisu (SK Telecom T1) Terran of the year: (T)Flash (KT Rolster) Zerg of the year: (Z)Hydra (CJ Entus) Best Coach Award: CJ's Kim Dongwoo Best Progame Team: KT Rolster Best Player: Flash Friendship Award Stork Most Popular Player: (P)Bisu
Rookie: By.Sun for performance in Proleague and STX Cup. Protoss: Could go to either Bisu or JangBi. Terran: Fantasy for being a OSL winner and another OSL's finalist in the same year. Decent Proleague performance. Zerg: Hydra being MSL winner and OSL semi-finalist. Also raping in Proleague. Best Coach: ACE's coach for their PL run. Best Progame Team: SKT(lol) Best Player: Flash(or Fantasy if it has to be one of the player from the best 3 races players) Friendship Award: ZerO Most Popular Player: Jangbi
best toss has to be bisu sure first osl win for toss in 3 years is great, but jangbi was overall bad throughout the season whereas bisu was raping from the start, including quite a few wins against JD and a win against flash in winners finals best team skt got unlucky in the finals but they dominated all 6 rounds best terran hard to pick, fantasy and his osl win+finals or flash for being flash best zerg realistically itll be hydra with his MSL and consistent PL whereas jd could win just cause hes JD best rookie sun hands down
Rookie: Grape, for ABCMart MSL Protoss: JangBi Terran: Fantasy Zerg: Hydra Best Coach: ??? Best Progame Team: KT won, after all Best Player: Flash I guess Friendship Award: Stork Most Popular Player: Jaedong
In my own completely unbiased opinon... I still think the Protoss award should go to Bisu. I adore Jangbi, and his OSL win was the catalyst for my coming to love and appreciate BW, but the award is for performance throughout the year, not just three months. Jangbi's results from the rest of the year are still pretty abysmal, and he did kind of let Khan down in the playoffs. Bisu on the other hand worked his ass off all year and almost single-handedly carried his team to the top of every round of PL, straight into the finals, plus beating Flash in the WL finals to give SKT the cup.
Rookie: Sun Protoss: Jangbi or bisu, cant decide Zerg: Hydra Best coach: (S)KT coach or airforce Best team: KT, duh Best player: Flash Friendship award: Jaehoon Most popular: No idea best map: Circuit Breakers
I'm not sure why people are picking Fantasy. Did you guys forget that Flash won the Proleague Grand Finals ace match as well as an MSL? Not to mention he obliterated Fantasy in regular Proleague, going 34-13 compared to 20-19.

wait I thought by.sun won last year as rookie of the year?
Q There's been a lot of cases where players don't play as well after winning the Rookie of the Year award (P)Rain - To be honest, I heard that so much that I started to worry. It could happen but with the way things are going, isn't it possible that I will get past this Jinx? I went through an 8 game losing streak last season and I don't want to revisit that again.
what was that about then? anyways my chime in: Best map: La Mancha Rookie of the year: By.Sun (SK Telecom T1) Protoss of the year: Bisu (SK Telecom T1) Terran of the year: (T)Flash (KT Rolster) Zerg of the year: (Z)Hydra (CJ Entus) Best Coach Award: (S)KT coaches Best Progame Team: KT Rolster Best Player: Flash Friendship Award: One of the MBC players. maybe Sea? They are the jokesters in team 8. Most Popular Player: (P)Bisu
Epic return of Jangbi Flash is flash... can't compete with him lol Jaedong for always being a sick nerd baller. Reason I didn''t pick Hydra? If I recall correctly he had like 3 zvz's in the last tournament stages? And for me, that doesn't mean much.
Bisu vs Jangbi shouldn't even be an argument. If Bisu had led his team to a PL championship, then there would be an argument for him. As it is, he didn't even get the chance thanks to his boneheaded coach overthinking head-to-head.
Fantasy vs Flash is extremely close for T of the year, but I've got to give it to Flash for his PL championship/MSL championship. Fantasy appeared in 2 OSL finals, but again, didn't manage to lead his team to that PL championship.
Hydra takes Z of the year, for being the only one to win an individual league. His team didn't do well in the PL playoffs, but neither did Zero's and Jaedong's didn't even make it.
That's my objective opinion. I guarantee Bisu/Flash/Jaedong will take the awards simply because it's a popularity contest, but I'm proud of TL for voting Jangbi > Bisu and Hydra > Jaedong (so far)

All Bisu did was beat a bunch of scrubs in PL.
Actually Bisu beat Flash in the Winner's League final to take the championship. How is that so easily forgotten? Would you count him as one of the scrubs Bisu dismantled? Jangbi beat Flash when Flash was in a much worse state with his wrist condition and watching those matches vs Jangbi you could tell it wasn't the same guy Flash normally was.
Other points:
Bisu redesigned the approach to vZ in 2011. In '10 no protoss could win a match against 5 hatch hydra and all of a sudden he popularizes a new build that makes him unbeatable vZ.
Bisu stomping terran. He showed everyone that he has become the best vT protoss currently (even better then stork). One or two more wins will in fact put him past stork in for highest elo vT.
Number 1 elo ranking. It takes a monster year and some for any player to pass Jaedong and Flash in elo. Coming from a massive slump, Bisu barreled down Proleague lane to take the number 1 elo spot.
4AKS. Bisu had 4 all kills including 3 consecutive All Kills this season.

We all know Bisu has been by far the most impressive protoss throughout the entire year. However, these awards aren't handed out on those basis. History tells us that.
1. Anytime did next to nothing besides his fairytale OGN Starleague victory. Reach played, by quite some margin, the bigger role for his race. Anytime ended getting the award.
2. Bisu did next to nothing besides his shocking MSL victory. Nal Ra had broader success throughout the year, but in the end what Bisu did was more memorable and that was that.
Bisu had a spectacular year, but had almost nothing to show for it. Flash, like it or not, ended up overshadowing the entire SK Telecom T1 team at the end of the season to guide his fairly mediocre team to victory. Jangbi stole the spotlight in the individual leagues department with his dramatic rise to the top in what has been a fairly forgettable season with no single dominating force. The only thing Bisu will be remembered for by a average viewer will be his triumph over his arch-rival Flash in the Winner's League finals, and we all know that plays seconds fiddle to more important tournaments in the grand scheme of things.
It's just an award, and sometimes the justifications for a certain winner aren't crystal clear, and that's what fuels discussions an interest. I can tell you that SK Telecom T1 will never trade their number one asset to a player such as Jangbi, who in his own right is an amazing player. At the same time, I bet Bisu would gladly trade all his all-kills and the excellent accomplishments he accumulated over the Proleague season just to have an OGN Starleague victory that provoked such heavy emotions in the hearts of all E-Sports fans.
If Bisu snatched glory from Flash's fingers that fateful day and handed his team the much needed revenge from last year, we would have had a much heated discussion over the value of an individual leagues triumph against a Proleague triumph. Sadly, Bisu never fully captured his chance to seal his fate in what was a wonderful year for him result-wise. That's what counts in the eyes of some.

It's actually strange how you make this conclusion because Bisu's win over Flash was clearly a snipe build tailored to beat him in a Bo1. Immediately after the WL finals he loses 0-2 to Flash in MSL group stages. And if Bisu was so good then why didn't the coach send him out vs Flash in the PL ace when everything was on the line?
Jangbi's win over Flash in a Bo3 was clearly much more impressive.
Best map: Circuit Breaker: So balanced. No features that are exceptional to one matchup. Slightly small main forces expo.
Rookie of the year: (P)By.Sun (SK Telecom T1) won his PL finals game to put stranglehold on KT. All killed STX masters against OZ.
Protoss of the year: (P)Bisu (SK Telecom T1) won the PL finals game. Golden AK. 63 wins including undefeated in round 1.
Terran of the year: (T)Flash (KT Rolster) anyone who says otherwise is high.
Zerg of the year: (Z)Hydra (CJ Entus) It pains me to say this but he is the one who won the ZvZ gaunlet. He is the one who went to the semifinals again.
Best Coach Award: KT's Lee Ji Hoon He found flash several years ago, and has never looked back since.
Other categories: Best Progame Team (all but Team 8): KT Best Player: Flash Friendship Award: WTF is this?
Nominees are (in order, for those that can't read Korean): (Z)Jaedong

Flash dominated him in G1. In G2, it was turrets vs expand, Flash's fault, not Jangbi's brilliance. G3 was BO advantage. Fast third against bulldog.
@Release Did you by chance read any of the game analysis ' written about the Jangbi, Flash series because u are way off on your description of both games 2 and 3.
Edit: Also rookie fo the year may not be straight up sun. Both reality and grape had success in MSL (both runs were eventually stopped by jaedong).
Thanks for this, gonna vote asap. Indeed Protoss of the year is a really difficult question... It would actually be easier if Jangbi had slumped right after his OSL title, but except that stupid 2gate against EffOrt, he won everything else.
No way fantasy's getting best terran, flash will get best terran and best player. 74% vs 62% win rates for the year and similar achievements. If fantasy was close then he'd have been fielded in the proleague final ahead of best.
IMO, my take on best Protoss of the year is that Bisu put his heart and soul into practicing for Proleague throughout the entire year, getting extremely unlucky in the individuals, whereas Jangbi dicked around for about 5-6 months, and then managed to pull through a miracle OSL victory, while still doing fairly mediocre at PL.
I give Jangbi 60-40 odds for winning the best Protoss award, since historically there's been a stronger emphasis on individual league performance for the award .. but with the gradual shift in emphasis of importance towards Proleague, it could be different than thought.
Rookie of the Year: Sun, by a wide margin. Best map: Circuit Breaker, decent margin. Protoss of the Year: Bisu, by a very narrow margin. (Vote for consistency through whole year) Terran of the Year: Flash. Fantasy second. Zerg of the Year: Jaedong, by a small margin. Hydra second. Best Coach: Coach Park, good margin. Best Proleague Team: SKT1 Best Player: Flash Friendship Award: What the heck is this?
The awards should go to: Flash, Bisu, Jaedong. These guys own, even though Jaedong didn't own as much this year as he used to and Bisu failed in the individual leagues. Bisus PL record is beyond impressive.
I think it should be Jaedong over Hydra. Looking at this year's statistics from tlpd, they both had around the same winning percentage of 63-64. However about half of Jaedong's losses came from the most volatile matchup in BW: ZvZ. Losing half of your games in ZvZ is more excusable than losing so in another matchup.
Hydra had sub 50% winning rate in ZvT and over 70% in ZvZ. I think you could argue that his MSL victory was partly due to having all Zerg semis. Going further, out of his 88 played so far this year, he's faced zerg 40 times, that is almost half of the games. It is impressive to have such a high win% in ZvZ but I find Jaedong's ZvT even more impressive. And he continuously beat the final boss Flash.
I'm a JD fanboy so maybe I'm a bit biased here... and I know I should consider ZvP for both too (hydra went 74%) but meh :x

Are you arguing that some matchups are more important than others? If so, allow me to retort.
Bullshit.
Same winning percentages + not same individual league performances. It's not that hard.
Rookie: By.Sun, its kind of been expected that he'd win for awhile now. Don't see any change to that.
Protoss: Bisu.. 63 PL WINS, breaking Flash's old record. No one will ever break it with the new format. Also, JangBi sucked for 90% of 2011 and kind of lucked his way into the OSL finals where he did boss-mode it, but that was it. Bisu's 63 pl wins was consistent throughout the year.
Terran: Flash, similar reasons to Bisu. Although Fantasy made the 2 consecutive OSL finals (winning one), Flash carried his team through the PL and to a PL championship. Not to mention the MSL win which got him his golden badge.
Zerg: Hydra. I wanna say Hydra had the better or comparable PL record to the Dong, while being more successful in individual leagues.
Best Coach: Lee Ji Hoon, getting KT to the PL finals despite managing Flash's injury, etc.
Best Team: Overall team, I'd say SKT1. They went undefeated in R1, won Winner's League, and went to the grand finals.
Best Player: Flash. Flash's individual league accolades and overall PL win trumps Bisu.

Probably because he hasn't really done anything this year. 0-3'd in the OSL final, knocked out of Ro16 0-3 in the following one, and average results in PL. I love Stork to death, but there's no way to justify putting him in over Bisu, Jangbi, or even Stats, who at least was crucial in KT's PL victory.

Shinhan Proleague Season 2010/2011
Stats: 42 wins 26 losses, team finishes 3rd Stork: 40 wins 29 losses, team finishes 5th
Shinhan Proleague Season 2010/2011 Post-Season
Stats: 6 wins 3 losses, team finishes 1st Stork: 3 wins 0 losses, team knocked out of RO6
Individual leagues
Stats: No appearances Stork: Round of eight, 2nd place finish, round of 16, round of 16
I don't see how Stats was the better player than Stork besides having Flash on his team. There was no protoss that got respectable results in all competitions. Stork was the most constant force for the protoss race in the individual leagues, as well as being one of the best out of his race in the Proleague. A solid all-round performance that lacked bite. A mediocre effort? Perhaps, but no other protoss can claim to having a solid all-round performance like Stork did this year.
Of course it's upto the players to etch their performances into the viewer's mind with trophies and memorable performances, and that's what makes the difference in these awards. Stork's results are harder to glorify than Bisu's or Jangb's, but he doesn't have the glaring weaknesses in their resumes either. Stork was the best player for his team, as well as the best player of his own race in the individual leagues overall. That's something no protoss can boast. Awards are something that reminds and sums up the year to the average viewer of the memorable players and their performances.
We, as die-hard E-Sports fans, should be ashamed if we allow such awards to cloud our judgements when we should all know better. Stork was by far the superior player to Stats this year, and if no one is there to remember that, we'll all be brainwashed by a glamour and glitz of these awards.
Hydra should win best zerg. Three time semifinalist if I remember correctly, plus a title.
Bisu for protoss. Did Jangbi win an OSL? Yes. Was Jangbi also hilariously shite for the first half of the year? Yes. That OSL win was a spectacular story but doesn't make up for his early year failings.
Jangbi~ Cause although bisu was a proleague monster, he wasn't there in the most important match of the year. What good is all the wins when you chicken out on the last match of the season. Ez pz.
Flash.
Then I'll have to say hydra, but Jaedong if he won some starleague this year. Can't remember anymore lol.

Bisu - consistency, it's for the whole year/overall and Bisu was better. Flash - This one is tough because Fantasy was a beast, but I feel overall, Flash was more consequential for his team and he topped kespa ranking 10/12 months lol. Hydra - This is more because you just can't give it to JD with the year he's had, relative to himself, but title and kespa ranking matter too, Hydra was better in 2011. By.Sun - rookie for sure, he's already scary and I still don't think he's playing near his full potential.

Sun's biggest individual achievement was reaching the MST once... whoa, impressive. No point to compare this to a guy that nearly eliminated JD in a MSL ro16 and had just slightly worse record in PL, or the one that reached MSL ro8. They are no match for Sun. Totally. Yeah.

I swear I hear this every other day hahaha
bisu fanboys... loyal till the end... amazing (but he did definitely deserve it this time! though I personally would have preferred Jangbang for the OSL)

Indeed ;-; what I love the most about these award ceremonies is seeing everyone look gorgeous and dashing in suits, but what good is that when there aren't pictures D:<
I'll update the OP when I can get access to a computer.

Yeah, last year there were tons of pictures, not just of the winners but of every player/coach who attended the awards.
Man, none of these pictures they have on Fomos is actually useable in a banner, what a bloody shame, everyone looks so good too. There's only 4 good Des photos.
If Hydra steals my Jaedong's Zerg Award I'ma kill him. Zero doesnt have a chance.
Flash should get T no problem, unless. He won an MSL or two if I remember. That should balance out Fantasy's outstanding OSL streak. And we all know who the better terran is lol.
Hoping for Bisu for P but lets be realistic. Jangbi has it in the bag
Edit: Aww just saw the results. Fuck Hydra. Expected from Flash. YAY BISU!!!

Oh come on.... He KILLED Proleague.
yeah! come on guys, give bisu a break! he deserves it... who else can get 63 wins in PL (except for flash, flash can definitely do it but he's terran). and imo, jangbi only won the osl because of fantasy's epic failure!!!

Some people place very high emphasis on Individual Leagues.. Some don't.
Just to point out the (obvious?) other side of the coin, Jangbi's play in the first 7 months or so of 2011 was absolutely terrible, to say the least. He ended the year on a high note, yes.. But the award name isn't Best Protoss Of The Last Few Months.

Well Jangbi started owning it up in the spring and remember this (should) only count for 2011, but I suppose that Bisu still edged it out cus of his aura of dominance
it's deserved either way and it was probally a really close vote.
I am happy with the result. Bisu has finally got some appreciation of his hard work throughout the year. Also, all progamers look so good in suits (even Effort) that I was questioning my orientation for a while Jaehoon looks like a cool guy. Skyhigh is classy but I don't think his trousers go well with the rest. Hope there were a lot of fans and everyone enjoyed the event.
PS Flash in the pink doing his best to look like mortal
lol nice suit flash. Hopeing for JD with zerg of the year but expected Hydra.. Flash is flash and i reckon if Jangbi's proleague performance was better then he would of gotten toss of the year easy. maybe next year!!! this OSL is yours JD
Congrats to Circuit Breaker for getting best map! It is currently one of my favorite maps, as it is beautiful and fun to play on. Heck, it is even one of my favorite SC2BW maps considering how well that mapper managed to port its beauty across games.
And cool to see By.Sun get rookie of the year. He caught my eye after his AK of Oz back in the STX cup, and I will be keeping a close watch of him in the future.
