please don't throw that hurting esports crap.

Bo5 = less games
Bo7 = more games
Winners league say what?

-less time overall

I think I made my point.

-Yours truly, cowgoesmoo

No, i too agree that "E-Sport" doesnt fit anywhere in the equation. I don't understand why that notion of e-Sport starts to get so popular to people recently.

In any case, i understand the back-switch to Bo5 due to limited broadcast time, and additional exposure for new players + heavily favoring teams w S-class Ace would be a good reason to abolish Ace match... It just doesnt feel.. right.. Ace match is something seemingly unique to SPL, and i have always enjoyed it.. The marquee match-up of the day, no more >.<

Kind of odd some Koreans think playing an ace match is somehow responsible for player injuries when in reality it is KeSPA and the teams enforcing 12 hour work schedules every day of the week, and that doesn't even account for the extra time top players are known to put in.

Due to scheduling conflicts, weekday proleague games were scheduled for 4pm, which being regarded as an impossible time for fans to either attend live or watch offline.

is that supposed to be "... or watch online"?

Stupid, thoughtless posts like this needs to stop. Seriously.

The problem with BW is that games could take long hours especially with maps with 324095480699 possible expansions. I think Kespa could have made a map with less minerals on patch and on the same number of possible expansions, that way games can be faster but I think that would fuck up the balance.

so meh .. With MBC gone, it's just not possible to give out long elaborated games

good changes. last year there were a TON of boring, one-sided matches. now that it's best-of-5 we're going to see quality across the board.

i was less happy about no more ace matches but on second thought i won't mind. 5 games isn't a lot and you don't need someone playing two out of five games.

we're gonna see a lot more competition across the board. look at the top 5 of teams now:

jaedong/baby/sea/killer/tyson

flash/stats/mind/action/crazy-hydra

bisu/fantasy/best/by.sun/soo

leta/hydra/effort/snow/horang2

light/soulkey/zero/free/really

stork/jangbi/roro/shine/grape

(stx and ace are non-factors as far as i'm concerned)

KT gets hurt the most while stars and khan benefit a ton. team 8 and cj become clear favorites, but stars/woongjin now have a fighting chance.

well it might refer to watching on TV whereas 'watching online' would always be possible, what with VODs and stuff.

its mostly 10 hours. and they are professionells... its their job so they work 10 hours a day dunno what is so wrong with that.

and even with just 8 hours they HAVE TO play they still would play 12 or whatever.

and without the ace match they can onyl be send out once. so they can practice that 1 map and not 2 maps.

but atleast some Kespa evil shit in every thread :D

It's been said a million times that it's the Flash only team and it's been wrong everytime for the past two years.

I can live without WL tbh. It was too unfair to teams without a super ace... Ace matches I'm more on the fence about. I can see why they are done away with, and it will balance the teams more and make depth more important, but at the same time that entertainment value will surely be missed. When Bisu and JD go head to head to win the match, it just gets you're blood pumping in a way a normal match doesn't.

Then again, this also might be a good time for new aces to appear. Lots of players perform better under pressure than others, so if a rookie ends up consistently doing well in the 5th spot and winning for his team, he'll get a lot of spotlight as opposed to the normal ace players.

They struggle to find time to watch the games.

Bo5 with ace is pretty imbalanced for certain teams, but damn no more epic games

Making individual leagues that much more epic. Bisu should have a shot at an OSL gold now

Yeah, i mean, unless you have a players like Flash and Stats...

Or Jaedong and Sea
Or Hydra, Movie, and Effort
Or Zero, Soulkey, and Light
Or Bisu and Fantasy
Or Stork and Jangbi

Or Calm and Bogus

I dare you to say that with a straight face

huh? calm may be pretty bad right now but bogus is elo-peaking like a mofo and is going to be carrying stx this season imo.

No ace match makes me sad.

The ace match was pretty much the cultivation of an epic set of games, usually showing as the two team's best players duking it out to give their team the win. Ace matches are instant hype producers. Why remove them??

KeSPA has nothing to do with enforcement of practice schedules, it is entirely up to the teams. Some teams only require a minimum 8 hour practice schedule, while teams like SKT have something more intense like 12.

It's just that with less games to prepare for, the less amount of "extra time" a progamer has to put into practicing. When you have potentially up to four matches a week for PL to prepare for, along with individual league matches, it's going to require a fuckton of extra practice time by the player to be prepared.

Not that injuries should be occuring anyways, with proper posture and appropriate breaks inbetween games. Flash is more of an exception to the rule regarding his injury, otherwise Jaedong, Bisu and every other top progamer would've been suffering similar injuries from RSI/tendinitis. The main complaint by progamers was moreso a lack of rest rather than injury.

There is more entertainment value in a balanced Proleague than there is in the few truly worthy winner's league matchups. We've got individual leagues for that. Let's just hope for the sake of Bisu-fans hat he does make it in an individual league and that they will be able to see more than him demolishing mediocre zergs in PL.
But as far as a team competition is concerned, it was really annoying to know from the get go that teams that are not SKT, KT, CJ don't stand a chance. It was annoying to know that once it got to the ace match, some of the teams insta-lost. It was annoying to be a Khan / Woongjin / Fox / STX fan (not ACE, we're all good). I bet it was annoying to be a CJ fan as well.

And finally, as far as BO5 vs BO7 with ace goes, I would much rather see 4 (or even 5) very good matches instead of the considerable number of mediocre games a BO7 provides with, except for the ace match.

That's a really good idea, and I totally agree about the WL.

The removal of the ace match hurts more though.
