Updated September 2011, after the conclusion of the 2011 Jin Air OSL. Starting at this post. This thread will be updated after every OSL and MSL.
Thread purpose: Winners are the most well remembered, but both finalists usually get fame. Semi-final appearances are also usually well-documented as deep pushes. But what about the forgotten Ro8 and Ro16 appearances? These players surpass the vast majority of their peers, but are not always remembered. This thread is noting consistently successful players in the two major individual leagues. That being said, first...
Let's roll with basics that many people remember:
Most MSL+OSL Wins 1. NaDa 6 1. Flash 6 + Show Spoiler +
Most OSL+MSL Final Appearances Name_Finals_Golds_Silvers 1. NaDa 10 6 4 + Show Spoiler +
Most OSL+MSL Semi-final (Ro4) Appearances 1. Jaedong 12 + Show Spoiler +
OSL Consistency:
Most OSL Ro8 Appearances 1. BoxeR 10 1. YellOw 10 1. Reach 10 + Show Spoiler +
|
Most OSL Ro16 Appearances 1. Stork 15 + Show Spoiler +
MSL Consistency:
Most MSL Ro8 Appearances 1. NaDa 11 + Show Spoiler +
Most MSL Ro16 Appearances 1. NaDa 15 + Show Spoiler +
Errors are possible, of course. If you catch any, let me know.
Random thoughts: Poor Rock He made the OSL Ro16 so many times but never made a Ro4. Savior wasn't much for the OSL. iloveoov came, saw, and conquered. But his empire isn't very far stretching. Stork has been in more finals than any other Protoss, yay Stork!

boxer yellow reach were sooo consistent
|
If you want to extrapolate further, Flash has only failed to qualify for either tournament once: Waaay back when in his first MSL prelims. Ever since then he has always made the tournament proper.
|
Hehe, I really can't extrapolate further. There wasn't always an MSL Ro32, and the OSL has changed forms several times, with the Ro36 and ODT and whatnot. The MSL had a losers bracket for a while, so Ro8 = semi-finals in both brackets.
The only thing I am someone unsure of are the Ro8s for the 3rd and 4th KPGA tours (MSL before MSL name). I'm not sure if it would affect these rankings, but I only counted 6 players for the Ro8 in those tournies because I couldn't figure out if there was a proper Ro8 and 6 players seemed to stand out more.
Pepsi Twist KPGA 3rd:
NaDa Reach Boxer ChRh Yellow Zeus
Baskin Robbins KPGA 4th:
NaDa Chojja Kos Jinnam Boxer Zeus
If anyone thinks they can figure it out and correct my Ro8 for those two leagues that would be nice.

Even more consistent than flash or especially jaedong
|
Haha, not even close Vain. They had full careers that had league berths for up to 7 years. Flash and Jaedong haven't been around that long -- they're absolutely gonna pass them and they're gonna do it in less tries. But, old accomplishments are meant to be beaten by new players.
|
Jaedong and Flash really stand out considering how much shorter their careers have been compared to for instance Nada's.
|
There's SO few protosses... and there happen to be no protoss bonjwas whyyy
protoss players work harder please!
Thanks for sharing, happy to see Boxer and Stork so high
|
NaDa's accomplishments stretch from his first MSL Ro8 appearance in 2001 to his last in 2009. That's quite a feat. Jaedong and Flash came onto the scene in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Barring injury, like if Flash's wrist becomes far worse, I'm sure both will surpass NaDa in everything I posted. Just when I made this thread last year NaDa was alone as the #1 in Golds and semi-finals, but he's not anymore. He'll at least have the MSL Ro16 record for at least another 1-2 years, but in time it may also fall.
|
Nice statistics...
I totally forgot about Chojja, he was pretty consistent..but not so dominating as the rest
|
whoa, so many round of 16 appearances by Rock! Can't believe he wasn't able to sneak into a few quarters or even a semi.
Also, 5 OSL quarterfinals for Bisu without a final to show for it
|
only 1 time fantasy made the OSL Ro8 and didnt advance to the finals (and that time he lost to JD in the semi-finals) :O
|
|
Number of times in offline qualifiers: 3(1 OSL and 2 MSL) Flash. Don't think anyone else in Brood War history can be that consistent. Got in to OSL on his first try and only his second for MSL I believe
|
Nada is the best kids don't you forget it :D

Flash is pretty nuts.
Including this current OSL, Flash and Stork have both been in the most recent 12 OSL Ro16s consecutively. I'm quite sure that is an OSL record shared by the two of them.

Oov's 5-5-0 combo was monstrous.
Flash is very close behind with his 8-6-2

I imagine he'd prefer Korean. Just speculation of course.

Flash is so solid. I just wish his health does not fail him now. Can't see him losing any time soon.

And my love for NaDa grows even more...... So much accomplishments <3
And to see my oldies, BoxeR, Reach, YellOw...... was the perfect package :D

Wow the old gods of starcraft are still in the top...
|
Stork is really an OSL guy, eh?
|
oov's 5 for 5 is deceptive. a player with silvers as well as that many golds is more impressive, imo.
|
nada... forever consistent wherever he goes.
|
In all of the stats, the races are evenly distributed... kinda. Protoss is so close to being on the same par.
edit: the numbering is off for finals appearances (last guy should be 14)
|
|
i take a look at oov's record
then yellow
then u lol

A guy who win everything he takes part in is quite impressive though. A silver only mean a failed gold.
|
No he's right, oov's 5 for 5 in finals is deceptive -
Counting semifinals (Ro4) he's 5-4 - considering those 4 losses in Ro4 netted him bronze at best.
|
oov also dropped out in earlier stages of leagues many times, including prelims. So yes, while he's 5-0 in finals, he certainly did not "win everything he took part in".

lol second spoiler fail :D
i understand you guys are under the impression about the OSL finals' epicness, but don't spoil... =___=
|
This thread being updated is a spoiler that the OSL ended, nothing more. I said I'd update it at the conclusion of every OSL (and MSL if it continues).
Just in case, I'll post the results in the new 2011 Jin Air OSL post in spoilers. But I have faith in my fellow man that no one would click a thread with "OSL" in the title if they haven't seen the most recent OSL finals.
|
lol Oov is 5-0 in finals, YellOw 0-5 :D
|
Oov is famous for "5 finals 5 golds" I've never realized how short flash's career has been. I feel like he is a veteran, but he is almost the youngest player out there, you know, minus baby.
