It is as simple as that, esports only serves as the means toward attracting more buyers, casuals, sales revenue is the real end. And the game is tailored to that end.
Bah Humbug you too.lets all agree that SC2 is not as good as BW in in any way shape or form yet.lets leave it that way since there is no way of predicting the future.
  but enough of this nonsense.

No, implications are made on how games tend to turn out most of the time.

People do actually do seem to imply sc2 cant have great games.
While sc2 is obviously less mechanically challenging, expecting player skills/strategies/overall entertainment of the games to be equal to that of a 13 year old game is unrealistic.
I feel that sc2 is clearly evolving over time and will continue to do so. While bw will hopefully continue to have its own thriving community of players as well :D

OP: If you want to learn Protoss fast, I would recommend going to the BW VODs section and watching games from the following players:

Bisu, Pure, Kal, Stork, BeSt, JangBi, Stats, Violet, free[gm], Snow, Horang2
That should pretty much give you in-depth knowledge of what is deemed as standard in PvX, and how to react to any sorts of timing attacks.
It is critical to also make sure to read the Protoss Strategy section in the Liquipedia.

 * * *  Hope this helped.

Replays section has high enough level stuff to analyze for build orders and such. I think just jumping in and playing once you got a few standard builds in mind is a good idea though.
Also please, don't talk about SC2 in this thread it's just irrelevant if you think the game is good or not. We prefer BW to play and watch, end of story.

  Think escorts on craigslist.
To contribute, BW is a magical game made in a more innocent time and by a company that cared about creating quality games (as opposed to a product, per se).

for me: first go learn (at least your race's) strategies.... with a decent db of strategies on your head you can now start playing and watching vods or replays, without strategies you just dont know whats happening, why is happening and your learning process is going to be slower. You can always work on your macro, it just never going to be perfect, micro for me is more related at knowing what to do that just having high apm, so once you know your strategy, enemy's counter, your counter you can start playing faster (macro wise, micro wise, multitasking, etc)

It's chaotic, but controlled. Not only does every unit and structure have a good visual weight, but you get that pixel-precision, even with the pre-rendered sprites. You just don't get that much anymore. Everything is so floaty, liquidy, and weightless in modern rendering. I couldn't have said it better myself. The graphics is the main thing that put me off from SC2.
  Figures NUKEthestars plays Terran.

Thanks. Horang is a master of PvP (slipped my mind); updated.
P.S. Cannot believe I forgot Snow.

i like threads like these :-)
OP - I see your icon is a probe so I'm assuming you're playing toss
For PvZ greatness, please refer to Bisu! Check out the finals of him vs Savior, who was the Zerg bonjwa of his time. Bisu is nicknamed the revolutionist because at the time of Savior's reign, Zerg was said to have been way advantageous to Protoss. After these finals, suddenly it seemed manageable.
For PvT, look nowhere further than stork. Can't think of a spectacular game off the top of my head, but if you just scroll through the small VOD thread, check out any of his games vT - he's a monster.
For PvP, both stated above are good, but check out Kal as well. He pulls out some greatness and is a solid player all around. Any game between these 3 players will be a great example of PvP.
by watching the above players with their respective matches, you will be able to learn extremely solid builds. Of course, everything that everyone else said will help you too.

This is the best place for reps. The games arent all log and intense games but rather show onesided victories and generic cheese losses that better represent what you will be facing on the ladder.

Within the last couple days, I've started playing one or two ICCUP matches before I roll up onto SC2. I am finding this is helping me out quite a bit with hand positioning, game speed, and precise mouse movement.
Anyone else playing both BW and SC2? How do you guys switch up playing? Do you focus on one more than the other? Do you use one for recreation and the other for serious play? What are your thoughts?

well i've downloaded all thoe replays, i guess i'm shocked how little replays are left. there should be like 12 years worth of replays, but it onyl seems like very little is left from pre sc2 time. i wonder if some of the pros still have their bw replays. i'll auctally have to check that out, see maybe if i can't pm some of the former bw pros and ask them for whats left of their replay archives. see if i can't dig up some matches from way back that have been long gone

  --Contents of RAR:--
[Asia vs Europe] - Showmatch between Asia and Europe. Not sure about the date.
        Line-ups:
 - Eriador vs. Legionnaire
  - Fisheye vs. Pusan
  - Breakdown vs. Sen
  - ZelotITO vs Julyzerg
  - Mondragon vs. Zeus

[Blizzcon] - Reps from a Blizzcon. Also not sure about the date (2005 I think)
        Participants:
 - Reach
  - Yellow
  - Nal_Ra
  - NaDa
  - Mondragon
  - Legionnaire
  - Testie
  - Assem

[ChinaWCG] - Reps from a 2006. WCG qualifications in China
[fish vs Mondi] - A showmatch between Fisheye and Mondragon. Not sure which event (says ECG in replay names -.-).
[gosu reps] - Replays from various progamers (Boxer, NaDa, oov etc.) and some notable foreigners (Draco, elky, PJ etc.)
[Mondi replay pack] - Replay pack of Mondragon from PGT days.
[Testie vs Breakdown] - Event - Gosugamers King of the Hill, 2005 (I think...)
[ToT) clan] - Two clan wars of ToT clan.

Ok, that would be all. Of course most of these replays are bugged if you watch them with current version, so you will need to find out the BW version on which these games were played (use BWChart) and then watch them with Starcraft Version Changer, or some similar tool that lets you change the versions of BW.

this is awesome. thanks so much for that pack. this is exactly the kind of stuff i was looking for. i know a lot of the wg tour stuff is gone since they took down their site (a lot of good games gone) and same with a few other sites that the packs that were saved there just got deleted.
thats something i'm going to work on a lot more, getting those reps back from the grave so to speak.

im quitting sc2 and im returning to sc:bw too... i played since beta comes out, and get bored so fast... bw its a lot more difficult to master and learn, and thats its the funnier about!
the kids that love to play ums maps and fastest or money maps could love sc2 more, but the old hardcore players (except for the ones winning money in sc2 of course) would come back to sc:fw aswell
