lolz D rank isn't really D rank right now if you ask me. It's a huge friggin skill range at the D level.

If thats the choice he wanted to make, then I assume he would not of made this post. He clearly wants to try SC/BW, and all your doing is baiting a flamewar. Let the guy play BW if thats what he wants to do! Also, Goodluck as the overall skill level of BW compared to SC2 is a nightmare. Your going from a game where many people are close to the same level and understanding, to a game where tons of people will be literally YEARS ahead of you in mechanics and strategy. It will be a very frustrating, but ultimately enjoyable experience.

On a more serious note, I'm really glad to see that there are players who are brave, curious and non-conformist enough to switch from SC2 to BW, props to you folks.

For the OP: can you please tell us what race you want to stick with? Or, what race were you in SC2, so we can attempt to further help you on specific advice of who to watch replays of / what forums to go to.

Finding a game easy doesn't mean achieving the highest level possible, is connect 4 easy? yes. Am I the best Connect 4 player on earth? no

Please i hope no one gets offended by what i said in the other post. What i mean is that in starcraft2 you can just get all your buildings into 1 hotkey and all your units in another hotkey, pump out stuff, a move, etc. In broodwar is hell difficult (compared to sc2) which makes the challenge way bigger.
Im not sure but in starcraft 2 you can "easily" loose against a worse player than you. That cannot happen in broodwar.

I got Brood War in 2002, but always only played UMS like Fastest and BGH. I just recently went back to try to play it competitively and it's such a freaking challenge. I got a few of my friends who only got into Starcraft when SC2 came out to download the iCCup server and now we play Brood War quit a bit. Personally, I've found it more rewarding than SC2 because I can feel my strategy AND mechanics improving a little bit more every day whereas in SC2 everything on the mechanical side has been made so goddamn simple.
BW has been a complete blast so far and I only regret that I didn't follow or play competitively sooner than I did. T_T

It's amazing how many people have gotten bored of SC2 and want to play BW again. I fall in that category too.
As for your question, play on Iccup and work on your macro, find some people to practise with (preferably better than you), watch progamers playing, look up liquipedia for strategies. Not necessarily in that order. It'll take a while to get used to manually sending workers to mine and using control groups of maximum 12 units. It's hella fun though.

Gah. I know. That's my one regret in life.

Yeah yeah... BW is still amazing to watch BUT after SC2's advances in unit control and pathing, BW seems nightmarish to play. Atleast for me its not "hella fun" anymore and is grating my nerves. Its actually amazing how few people have actually switched back given the fact that maps have really sucked recently. But I still love playing on SEA where i'm having a blast and much more fun than playing BW. Watching BW is still good though and seeing Flash lose to Ssak ..... PRICELESS!!

Yeah I am too. But do you think BW is "years ahead of SC2" because its "years older than SC2"? @_@
But yes, im tired of playing BM people, I miss getting 5 large pepperoni pizzas, 2 cases of beer (or soda), having all my friends over, and LANing it up till 2 am. Now that Im married, I just have my super awesome wife sleep over at a friends house. Or she'll just come home and plop down in bed and read while me and the guys make all kinds o ruckus!
Jeez, im totally going back.....

You can play BW proficiently at about 200APM, not too hard to achieve with a little practice. However, i find that whenever i play zerg, the APM requirement grows exponentially higher as the games progresses.

It's not "easy" as I stated, but in comparison to BW it's alot easier and less stressful. FFS probe rally x_x haha.

Oh I main protoss, for life
Also thanks for the support everyone. By easy I meant that tons of things are dumbed down, like it's not even fun anymore. Most of the times you barely need to macro, okay pull 1 unit away and put back, press a hotkey and spam a button to rally in more units, ENTIRE ARMY ON 1 KEY etc. It got boring and there's not much variety. By not much variety I mean if you stray off from a common and strong build you might either: a) get totally shitted on or b) win. I hate doing a certain build against every MU and shit. I watch BW games and I just see EPIC things going down which is why i want to play it, not to mention the graphics (nostalgia).
This is also the reason I started playing KR servers for SC2.

I 100% agree with this. As far as watching, BW is so much more interesting. I havent seen anything in SC2 that matches the awesomeness of say the Kal vs Modesty set at the OSL for example. At the same time, i watch my hydras and lurkers run into each other as im trying to get them up a ramp and I wish I had the sc2 pathing lol.

I thought dumb unit pathing was the best part of BW.
It gave units like the dragoons amazing personalities. :D

it also completely eliminates the unit ball you see in sc2

I agree with you on that part I got into it May of 2009 wish I had started bw in like 2007 heh.
But still watch bw along with sc2 both are fun to watch and play :D.

Hmmm, some people in this thread just don't understand what personal challenge is. BW is a very different kind of challenge. It's chaotic, but controlled. Not only does every unit and structure have a good visual weight, but you get that pixel-precision, even with the pre-rendered sprites. You just don't get that much anymore. Everything is so floaty, liquidy, and weightless in modern rendering.
I'm in the same boat as the OP, actually. Getting back into playing BW in a big way after burning out on, and subsequently uninstalling, SC2.

You could watch Ongamenet StarLeague first.

Yep. I know that watching all of the Proleague and Starleague games that moktira is awesome enough to upload has helped me out a ton. It gives you a sense of what you should be doing at what times in all of the different matchups. Even though I play Zerg, PvT is far and away my favorite matchup in BW. Watching the Protoss get the first ranged Dragoon out to start to pressure the Terran's bunker until the Terran gets out a tank, and then Reaver drops, Stasis, and Recall play in the late game is so freaking awesome to me. I makes me regret the state of PvT in SC2 so much.

I really have to agree with this. And the sound effects as well are just vastly superior.
