Please Brood War, if you can just hold on a tiny bit longer, just stay strong during these times of turmoil and we might be able to stay alive together, alongside SC2.
But does this remind anyone else of the BW Gom Starleague that Kespa completely shut down simply out of spite? Kinda feel like Gretech is getting it's own back because of it. I just wish Kespa had done things differently in the past. But damnit, I want my Brood War back If it fails it will be a huge example to the world that an E-Sport can only last so long before becoming obsolete.

wow some big changes gonna happen. Blizzard fucking shits up as usual (maybe for the better? I don't know at all)

I wish GOM would just go die. Yeah you guys got the rough end of the deal a couple years ago, but it doesn't mean you can come back now and become Blizzard's pet and fuck up the entire SCBW e-sports scene in Korea. Fuck you GOM.

Sweetness. Now can we all love each other again?
And presumably the fact that MBC posted it means they WILL be running proleague after all?
Hopefully the negotiations have finally reached their conclusion and the two scenes can get on with their life again...

No word on MSL.
Even if there's no MSL, proleague is the key to the survival of the BW proscene. If proleague survives, there's always a chance they may revive MSL in the future.

Let's hope it's not just weekends but rather the 5 day/week schedule.

yeah yeah.. there was no word.. i just mean if they agreed on proleague mb they also agreed on MSL : ) *hope* and yes plz not only weekend!

With 2 fewer teams, technically they can have a 3-4 day schedule.

not going to happen with gsl taking all the prime-time slots.
only way 5 days is going to work is if they play the monday/tuesday games during the afternoon.

I disagree. Sc2 is much harder to watch. The view angle and zoom lvl makes it difficult to see what's actually happening in an army battle as opposed to bw. Also you do need greater game knowledge of sc2 units and their counters to understand what's going on. Bw is much simpler in that respect. Its clear what every unit does after u seen it once. Sc2 units have quirks to them u might not see until used. As a spectator more than a player i find sc2 overall to be harder to follow.

I really do believe that its inevitable that a team league will start up for SC2 if BW Proleague ever does go down. I also think it's currently incredibly important for anyone to be able to participate in tournaments for SC2 to develop. If it's a closed system like for BW (you need to obtain a pro-gamer license, then manage to join a Pro-team to even get off the ground), it'll be discouraging for potential gamers. Right now, most importantly they have to maximize the player/fan base for SC2 to have a bright E-Sports future.

The players have been systematically trained to downplay their own efforts and achievements so they don't at any point abuse their celebrity in a way that could upset the systems that KeSPA have created. This is probably the first time in 6 or 7 years that many of these progamers have thought about anything but progressing within the current rigid system, without ever questioning whether the system itself is a good idea in the first place.
The Korean eSports scene thrived because of the combination of celebrity and production values, of which sponsors were needed, but ever since the Boxer boom the balance of power has slowly and steadily swung into a system where players are meant to just be grateful to play for such a venerable and great team and give up everything in order to continue. I suspect the majority of progamers still love brood war, but that doesn't mean they should love the perverted system that just happens to be the only choice, especially when they can have better prospects in a game that's very similar and has the added option of being somewhat undiscovered in terms of strategy.
Also progamers are people, people with lives and not zealots for the great god brood war intent on dying for their cause, as much as you won't want to admit it, brood war is just a game and these kids probably have other ambitions down the road, like going to college, or having a family, or selling fruit.
Wow, this was a fantastic post, thank you! So often people do not consider what it must be like to be one of these drones/progammers underneath Kespa. It has always struck me how robotic they are especially in interviews. They simply have no character/uniqueness. The difference is so notable in the GSL, they have the ability to act normally and are far more animated and actually act like the incredibly young people they actually are. Honestly under Kespa the progammers always reminded me of the athletes from Russia at the olympics.....afraid to say the wrong thing.
