It's an argument that can be made endlessly. Lets end the argument with this poll. Vote for which race you think is the hardest to master. btw, random is not a race.

(Vote): Terran

Definitely Terran, almost every Terran unit has a special ability, which is impossible to cover after ~20 minutes.

Terran requires too much micro, along with macro (whereas zerg only needs macro in the later portion).

zerg

dudey had a great post somehwere that explained some starcraft theory about it, basically with zerg you hafta know when to make workers and when to make troops throughout the game which isn't the case with toss/terr

Because attack moving mutas against marines is totally cost effective. Same with lurkers... I guess.. -_-

Terran definetely. Why ? Micro and Macro it's very hard it takes lot of practice to master it or do something nice/well. Why now is zerg 46%? because there is alot much more zergs then terrans. Why now>? because more people play zerg because it's easier than terran and it is hard to fight with them.

First serious game I tried with Zerg, got zealot rushed and lost. Second game, beat a newb but constantly had 1k minerals. In the first serious games I tried toss, I got up to 200/200 very quickly, secured many expansions(and still lost the games), and didn't have many excess minerals until 3-5 expansions and 200/200. So I would say zerg is hardest and protoss is easiest.
During practice session, I discovered very good build against zerg. -Bisu[Shield]

for zerg users, id suggest practice with terran, so ur macro and micro would be better. then then zerg, and ull see a big different in the gameplay from before

Zerg is harder because of the unit/peon ratio that must always be achieved at every step of the game. I have been playing zerg for like ~6 months and I still havn't got it mastered.

I find Zerg really hard to play. Good balance between economy and army is very difficult especially in early game. Late game is also hard, units die fast, new units spawn fast, hotkeying is a burden.
I find it much easier to switch between Terran and Protoss.

Terran is definately generally the most hardest race, and has the hardest matchups and will require alot of base and unit management. If you make one mistake with terran on early game vs zerg, you will surely lose the game ex. tear your initial marines on sunkens or impale them to lurker spikes. I find zerg easy in almost any matchup and with zerg you can expand and pump units like no-other race because of hatcheries rather than factories or gates.

The power of the race is mainly depedant on which skill level you are playing. Average terran and protoss usually can't win your average zerg. Average protoss will beat mediocore terran player etc, while at top level anybody can win no-matter the matchup.

All of the races are equally hard to master, if you want to play at top level. It is just a matter of preference what GUI, sounds, gameplay you like!

It's more a matter of identification. If you are filthy and completely moraleless you'll like zerg. If you are filthy and anal retentive with very fast hands Terran definitely will be your choice. Noble souls of great intellect like we Protoss players will prefer, well Protoss of course ;-)

On an amateur level yes. Zerg is the easiest in my opinion. Mass, mass mass. Both T and P require much micro, especially PvZ.

all depends on what you're talking about.

toss requires more thinking. terran and zerg require higher speed.

if you're naturally smart yet slow, mastering toss will be easier than terran or zerg. if it's the other way around, then toss will be the hardest for you.

although pvt doesn't really require much of anything.

protoss are a joke.. realy easy to macro//micro and play

zerg are not realy hard but not realy easy but guy 4sz5sz 5sh6sh are not hard no ? in mid game you have nothing more to do and you dont need big micro using zerg... + your pop for overlord are realy easy to not forget.

terran are the most hard by far. you need NON STOP micro//macro + need use hotkey all time and make some nice drop + move during all that you need macro your bass and your unit in the same time all game non stop.

However, I doubt that any zerg players would vote for terran, because if you don't play zerg you won't really understand how hard it is.

yall got the shit mixed up, the topic is which race is hardest to master, not hardest to micro/macro. terran is hardest to micro for sure, so is zerg. but the hardest to master is zerg. terran requires much less strategy, everything is based on micro and macro.for zerg u have to decide which units u want to make in different situation,

Zerg, [Red]Nada is correct, watch the Yellow replay packages, every game is different in when to time worker/unit production. Doesn't create sunkens till absolutely neccessary, makes colonies then cancels it to fake out opponents just to allow for 1 more drone to be mining, ect. The efforts he goes through to have just 1 more drone mining are extreme. It's insanely more complicated than us P/T players generally realize.

zerg. units die very fast, you need good macro, you need to constantly scout looking for weak spots, you need to have a good idea of when to retreat, expand etc.
terran and protoss are more forgiving. units don't die as easily, have (arguably) better support units that are cheaper, such as tanks, reavers, temps.
I've been playing for some 4 years, and zerg is deffinately my worst race, even though I've played quite alot with them. they just require so much movement and sense of eco.
1000 at least.

Terran is the hardest to master. They requiar so much micro and macro. Nearly every unit has a special ability, which you you need to know when and where to use. Building placement, supply depo production, build orders and timing are all so crucial and you usually cant get away with making a mistake or two.

Zerg is the hardest to master at pro level. But average games between amataurs I think tvp is the hardest MU in the game. It just requires so much speed, and accuracy, and harassment - while toss just requires good timing and macro and expanding. Maybe because I am just worse at the speed/accuracy/harass, but I think this is true for most players - therefor, its the hardest at lower levels.

zerg. you can become a good microer in a short period of time but the requirements of being a top zerg are out of reach of 97% of zerg users. knowing when to make drones and when not to, extremely fast handspeed, etc.

I vote zerg:

As a zerg player I always feel cheated because I have to macro my ass off. And then still I need to micro my units as much as other races(fu terrans). Its hard because unlike terran and toss who just move in a straight line a zerg has to be a lot more mobile and always keep tabs on the opposing army so that you can position in just the right manner to perform a flank, and if it fails you lose. And most zerg need to achieve this with 3-4 hotkeys for units(unless you dont hotkey hatcheries). And while I am doing all this micro I still need to have 2x the bases of the opponent and do harass micro just so I can buy enough time to make a few more drones or start a hatchery.

And then theres the Drone/War Unit balance. Essentially a good zerg needs intuition to when to drone, how much to drone and how many units to make. If you make too little drones then your economy will never keep up with the opponent and you wont produce enough units to defend your base and expansions. Make too many drones and you won't have enough units to defend yourself. At the base its a race of how many drones can you make without getting creamed.

I'm zerg, and I chose terran as the hardest... though I agree that balancing power and mass as zerg is very hard to learn. I sure haven't done it.

I don't think anyone knows which race is hardest to master. Some players are kinda skilled, but the way I think of it, nobody has mastered any race. Everyone has a lot to find out. Definitely nobody has mastered all three to compare!

Zerg seems the hardest to really master to me, especially getting good at early and mid-game. Early game you need so much effort to stop attacks that cost the opponent much less effort. For instance in ZvP the P making a 2-gate build and rushing you with his first zealot and then two more soon after. Sure P needs to micro his zealot, but for the zerg even a small mistake will cost him the game.

Then as you approach the mid-game its a very delicate balance between massing and powering. Timing is critical to the zerg. I watched some of the replays from the City pack. Some games he has only his main + expo and Terran is pushing in. He times it so perfectly though knowing when to sacrifice his expo to get just a few more units to break the push or when he can defeat it right away. I think that is harder to learn than how to micro or macro units.

to resume that by many player answer : zerg are the most hard because you need to know when make or stop drone and the same for unit.

sry but that not something realy hard... you only need dont be stupid
and change your tactic drone//unit depent of what the other player do..

i think so many zerg user only know to exp + make 1-2 suken and never stop drone until got muta after switch lurker + make 2 exp

after the got fast tank push or fast drop and got zero ling to do someting and they are like WTF ZERG ARE SO HARD

yes kid yes...

I wanted to say this. Protoss have it easy in pvt and pvp but pvz i just really hard.

zerg
It's more important to be tough than to have any fun.

I agree =[ fu terrans :p

Any. Terran is the only mastered race as it is, the rest are still masterable, but no one is making any progress :O

Where is Terran?

like drone said, zerg is alot about micro and strategy, whereas toss is almost all about timing. i think toss (in a perfect sc world) would be the hardest, simply because small changes in timing by the opponent would have to be noted and adjusted to in order to not die

i think speed is more easily accomplished that perfect timing

If you don't think burrowing lurkers in zvt is micro you're crazy. I find timing it right and burrowing the proper amount ect to be pretty damn hard.

Still, the game is balanced relatively folks. So since there are to level tos players and terran players and a few zerg players it's hard to really say any oneis more balanced then others. On that thought I do have to say there really hasn't been many great zergs so it apears at the pro level zerg might be showing signs of being the hardest to master.

Then again maybe maps hate zerg and it's all because of the maps

i voted zerg only because i play them

but at high levels, i would definitely say protoss.

its very difficult for many strong protosses to play on mineral only expoes vs zerg

i've seen kingdom do it very well, while most other protosses get raped

plus PvT isn't getting any easier at the pro-levels these days

Zerg is way more about timing than Toss IMO.

Playing a shitload of random games I say Terran. All parts of the game escpecially vs zerg is hard. Easy to make devastating misstakes. A bit personal opinion since I can't control marines and get slaughtered by zerg. Now I mostly play zerg if it's not for fun and well I cant see how they can be harder since I feel alot closer to master them than with terran. And I think toss is easier than both.. This is within a wery small margin so to speak. The game is so balanced ect...

i don't see how protoss got so few votes. there have been so few professional dominant protoss players throughout the years compared to z/t. with zerg and terran, you can play 20 games a day for a month and get fast speed, then execute basic strategies. with protoss, you can be extremely fast and if you dont know what to do (which is often very hard to figure out) then you'll lose. that's why you see so many low apm protoss own it up.. the strategy will be more important than perfect micro/macro.

if toss is easy, then why dont people play it and top off wgtour and ngi, cuz there's shit for toss players on the top of either of those ladders ;o

this is just what i think: Terrans need best micro, Zerg needs best macro, Protoss needs best "game eye" if you know what i mean..(when to attack where to attack, what to build and when, best time to spend mana etc..)
I dont want to be totally out :3
