With ICCup down and hamachi not working for me, my only chance is to convert everyone to wippien.
Wippien works with a buddy system. It's like MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Google talk, the only difference is that in addition to be able to chat with your buddies, Wippien puts you on a VPN with everyone you've added. That means anyone you have in your buddy list can see and join your games on LAN UDP.
Like MSN etc, wippien also supports chat rooms. I've made a chatroom called teamliquid. All the people in the teamliquid wippien chatroom are also put on the same VPN and will be able to see each others games.
Wippien is actually really easy to configure to just use out of the box, but you'll probably prefer to change some settings. Here I'll tell you what to do:
After you download wippien from http://wippien.com and start it for the very first time, you are presented with the following screen:
Step 1) JID
In the JID field enter your teamliquid name followed by @neko.im. Neko.im is only one of the many registrars for jabber IDs, but it will help if we are all on the same jabber server.
Enter a password and then click "test account." Wait for "success", then change the radio button to "I have an existing account" and click test account again to connect. Click "next" and then finish.
Step 2) IP Provider database
Open wippien from your system tray (area near the clock) since it has minimized itself automatically due to inactivity while you were reading this. Then click settings. In "System" you can prevent wippien from minimizing itself automatically.
The most important one is "network". First of all, you probably want to set the ip provider database to this URL:
http://wippien.com/ip/?baseaddr=172.0.0.0&netmask=255.255.0.0&jid=
The default ip range conflicts with hamachi. Even if you don't have hamachi, change the ip provider so that we all use the same one.
Step 3) Firewall
Click down to firewall (under network), and click "block all traffic." Then add ICMP, UDP 6111, UDP 6112.
Right-click the windows networking icon in your task-bar and select "change windows firewall settings". Then move to "advanced" and uncheck wippien in the list of firewalled connections. This leaves your windows firewall on but prevents the windows firewall from interfering with wippien.
In wippien, all traffic is blocked except ping and starcraft.
Step 4)
And this is how you can join our chatroom. Press the chat button (third button in the row at the top of your buddylist) and then fill in the details as shown. Room: teamliquid. Password: rocks. Gateway: conference.neko.im. At the top of that screen you can set your nickname. You have to hit [join or create room] instead of [ok].
Don't forget to add phrujbaz@neko.im to your buddies too!

why isn't hamachi working for you? we really don't need more place to hang out. hamachi is fine. no need to split the few people that use it up in more groups.

It looks like the advantage of this is that you get a chatroom associated with the psuedo-lan network.

16 or 14 people is the max for a server, upgraded servers are like 50 but those are kinda expensive to maintain if its just for gaming. I'm in a server that's upgraded to 50 max but I'm not sure whether or not he cracked it, since I also hear he cracked his vent to hold up to 100 people..

Will we need to use ForceBindIP again? and how many people can be connected max?
|
why don't you people use garena? there are plenty of empty rooms and each one of those support up to 225 people, you have a buddy list and a chat room.

A) Wippien is light-weight and unlike garena does not eat a lot of cpu cycles unnecessarily. B) Wippien allows but does not require people to split themselves amongst multiple rooms, and the limit is not 225 but rather somewhere near 255^2. Also, buddies on your list are automatically joined to your LAN. C) Wippien is cross-platform and can connect me to my peers from both Linux and Windows.

The more recent hamachi versions don't work for bw and even the older versions had issues for me. Struggling to find a link for downloading an old version.

Yeah it will , but if i turn off my firewall my computer starts crashing for some unknown reason . If i can get hamachi to work with SC and firewall at the same time it will help me alot to ease my nerves .
