I'm not too worried, I don't live in a major population center and I don't fuck pigs (I'm not sure if anyone here watches the PhillyD show). Sounds like the shit really is hitting the fan though. By the way, I would wear one of these: https://www.autoloandaily.com/images/stories/bubbleboypic.jpg

That last time there was a true flu pandemic, it killed in 1-2 years a comparable number of people as the bubonic plague did in 10 years. It also targeted young healthy people rather than just old people and babies. So 20 years-olds would get sick then be dead a day or 2 later. I think some people though are blowing it out of proportion. Humans should have a healthy respect for disease. It has whooped our butts too many times in the past for us to not take it seriously. Read up on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic Now, we don't know if this will be a pandemic like that one, but we better make sure we are taking seriously from the very beginning just in case.

In absolute numbers the spanish flu might be comparable to the plague of 1348, but "only" 3 percent of the infected deceased, while a third of the european population died because of the black death. The world population was just much bigger in 1918. edit: of course I agree with you we should take this seriously, just wanted to make this clear edit: oops, someone was faster

I wouldn't even know where to get one around here to be completely honest. The pharmacies here have never sold them really, I'd have better luck just picking up some Tamiflu. Also I could just buy, you know, water for if I get sick. Americans never treated Flu as something to avoid, we act reactively to it instead of proactively and just deal with it as we got it.

And you pretty much proved my point, the CDC is the government.

I think the point is that an organization created for the purpose of disease control and that is staffed with trained and educated professionals is 1000x more qualified to say whether closing our borders would make a difference than a random person on the internet.

Shutting down an entire border is a major decision that can have other ramifications. Obviously it takes more than the basic knowledge of epidemiology (which the CDC has obviously considered), to decide whether its the right thing to do.

I almost included a sentence about how the world population was very different between the 2 time periods in my post. But I do think that people forget how horrible the Spanish Flu really was. We talk a lot about wars killing a lot of people (think about all the news a little war like our invasion of Iraq got) and yet, at least in my school, we hardly talked about the Spanish Flu at all. That just seems weird to me.

A) Realize we're in the middle of an economic shitstorm. What do you think happens to all trade with Mexico if we shut down our border? Closing borders is a last second resort that you don't fuck with unless you're damn sure that it's worth it B) For the love of god, learn what the fuck socialism is

but no, you're right - let's close the border to one of our greatest trading partners despite the fact that the flu has already clearly lept the border. let's just think of some wild, hysterical reason to justify your bizarre agenda. this is so blown out of proportion it makes me sick. fox news had a headline the other day : "The Next Black Death?" Yeah, fox, the black death - we're at 1 person dead now. when we're approaching 50% of the population dying then we can talk about the black death, okay?

in what way does this justify closing the border to one of our greatest trading partners? and, additionally, how can you say "I do agree with you that some media have blown it out of proportion" and at the same time advocate closing the border? clearly you must agree with those in the media that are being apocalyptic about this.

oh wow some people in mexico died presumably to swine flu and the media is going batshit insane without any actual reporting going on just fear mongering SURPRISE. what is there like ONE fatality in the US, think about it ONE. wow guys we're all going to die let's going around wearing stupid retard masks as if that's going to help if there's some worldwide pandemic of deaht holyshiiiit. omg are you serious a flu strain that humans have never seen are infecting people at a rapid rate? omG!!!! give me a break, 100 people died in mexico or something. in a city of fucking millions 100 people died (only like 7 of them were confirmed swine flu), that's like a large classroom.

Except the government obviously DOES realize it. The CDC didn't choose not to close the border out of laziness, or idiocy, but because they legitimately weighed the consequences of closing the door to Mexico, and deemed that the costs outweighed the benefits. You can say you don't agree with their decision, but by no means is it dumb. Their priorities may be different from yours, but that doesn't make them stupid or insensitive.

CDC actually never considered closing the border, apparently they are not a bunch of retards who would think of shutting borders down to a flu. Also you explaining things to someone who claims hundreds of thousands will die in the US. Come on, guy probably posting in this thread http://www.stormfront.org/forum/showthread.php?t=594499
