I just bought a brand new Acer Predator, fully loaded with everything you could ever ask for, except a wireless router. I am not very techy, in general that is why I decided to buy a computer fully loaded and not upgrade and build it myself.
The specs the acer representative showed had the computer as having wireless LAN already installed in it, which after fucking around on my part for about 6 hours, proved that it did not have wireless LAN installed. So I then decided to install my own (My first thing I have ever tried to install myself!!!). So i started to do some research, to bad that every time your try to type something into google, it just comes up with a fucking review of how fucking great the computer is.
So I decided to ask for help by getting into contact with the technical support at Acer. Unfortunately they have no technical support phone number, and there technical support is purely based on email. I keep my cool and decide to send an email asking for help, after waiting for three days I decide that I will just take my best shot by a wireless network card install it and hope to fucking god it works.
I don't think that god heard, because I could not for the fucking life of me figure out what the hell to do. I continued trying to do research myself, and eventually I just went to Best Buy bought a router for a 32-bit PCI slot (even tho my computer is 64-bit), I figured that maybe some of the PCI slots were for 32-bit. So I looked up too see if any of the PCI slots were 32-bit on trusty google, and since the computer is so fucking grea you cant find dick all information, on things you may need to know if YOU FUCKING OWNED ONE.
Alright fuck this shit I will just install it and hope it fucking works who gives a fucking shit I am passed the point of caring. I look at the instruction booklet for how to install the PCI card. Which basically says....
1. Turn off and unplug computer 2. Press the release button that is opposite the expansion slot. (ITS TOOLESS YAY) 3. INSTALL!
It goes into so much fucking detail on how to turn off the computer and unplug it, and is completely lacking on step two. First off, What The FUCK, is the release button!!! Press it???? IT is physically impossible to press that "release button", because there is a steel bar preventing it. The actual instruction should have been..
2. Contemplate what the fuck the above phrase means for five minutes, then assume that the blue hinge like bar beside the expansion slot, is the release button because it is impossible for anything else to be. Then press the release button, which does nothing FYI, then try to figure out what the fuck they mean when they say "press" get out a hammer try to "press" the button. Give up, and then remove the fucking side panel, which is a massive pain in the cock because there is an annoying (but nice looking) arm in the way. Then jam out the metal cover blocking you from the expansion slot, using a screw driver.
I finally jam that sucker in, and turn on the computer, and all I hear is BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. Wtf, I am taking it back to where I got it and telling them to install the dam wireless shit themselves or I want my money back. I am tired of fucking around with that.

That sucks... I bought an Acer laptop in January and it has been working great so far. Why didn't you build your own computer? I know that you're not very techy, but you could have ask some of your friends for help if they knew how to build one.

Don't people only build desktops?

According to Acer's website, wireless LAN is listed as optional, so perhaps you didn't actually upgrade to include wireless LAN

I think he meant as opposed to building laptops, not meaning that they only way to get a desktop is to build one -_-;
But laptops don't have PCI Express, so you both suck at reading.

If your not up to speed with this stuff its freaking hard and time consuming to build a computer..I tried to install a new sound card and ended up getting a New Computer.
Its just to much easier and quicker to order a prebuilt one with a warranty and nothing to worry about.

Yes, I was just comparing my laptop to his desktop.

I can't even contemplate being unable to open the damn case up and look and see with my own two eyes if there are PCI slots available or just PCI-express or whatever D:
I'm always amazed people pay me to do shit like that. Maybe I shouldn't be. I'm sure car guys say that when I'm all "change my oil plz hurr"

Building a PC yourself really isn't hard. I built my first PC when I was like 15 or 16 with a little help of a friend (who knew a little more about computers than me). Since then I've built like 3 or 4 PCs all on my own, so I'm really not a great expert with loads of experience, and I never had any problem whatsoever.
There are plenty of good guides on the net and even the mainboard manuals are usually pretty decent. If you really are too scared to build one yourself ask someone (you must know someone who can show you) to assist you and you'll never need any help in the future.
Dunno the specs of your PC, but I can pretty much guarantee you that you're not getting enough for your bucks. Try to give it back, buy parts, build one yourself (maybe with a little help, hell even paying someone you know 50 bucks to help you select & build is better than buying a complete pc).

U don't need to spend anywhere near that to play any of the current games...and whatever is coming out in the near future...but ok. I'd stick with a well known established company. Obv Acer is shitty...they dont even have a customer service # like u stated.
This is what i got a few weeks ago...except it was on sale for $500...plays everything I have...and runs perfect. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999107800050007&type=product&id=pcmprd107700050007
people that spend boat loads on a PC for stuff they will never need...and use the the fullest..make me laugh.

Installing a fucking PCI card is almost as easy as turning on a computer.

You don't need to build your own computer, but if you dont you should buy from a hardware vendor that will assemble it on your behalf. In Canada, ncix.com will assemble the parts you choose for $50 CAD. It will be cheaper than buying from Acer, you won't be bogged down with their shitty software etc (you can buy without an OS if you want) etc. You can also price check to places like newegg.ca
In my opinion you should return it and order from ncix

i fucking hate acer. iv got a little shity acer aspire one, one of those tiny ones. im having problems with my ipod and needed to restore it, so when i turn my laptop on, an error from frostwire comes up saying that java needs to be installed in order to start it up. when i go to java.com to re-install it, it goes through the process fine then once it finishes an error pops up. "Installer : Wrapper .CreateFile failed with error 3: The system cannot find the path specified." so now im completely pissed off because i can't get java, music from frostwire or play anything the requires java. my computer was then officially CRAP!!! the next time i get a laptop it will NOT be an acer. this is why i think acer is a piece of crap, this and a whole shit load of other problems that i've encountered over the short time that i have had my laptop.

My acer hate story is 2 stuck pixels on an acer monitor that wouldn't go away. It was especially terrible since they were in the middle of the screen.

LOL @ bump
Anyone who catches this thread: building a computer is considerably simpler than you might think. Doing your research and getting help from a knowledgeable friend will save you a lot of frustration, and if you shop in the right places (part of doing your research!), a lot of money as well.

I have an acer aspire one. I haven't had any problems with it.

My acer monitor is good.... Wouldn't buy a laptop from them though.

Glad this was bumped so I can rage about Acer, too.
I bought an Acer laptop on October 2009. When I first got it, it had a nvlddmkm.sys (Nvidia) blue screen. I ignored it at first but it got worse and worse (eventually happening every hour) in about a week and a half. I called Acer and got sent to their level 1 customer support (which is in India or something). They set me up to send it in for repairs.
I get my laptop back 2 weeks later and see that they replaced the GPU. I immediately do a restoration to it and it blue screens (same blue screen) during process. And then continues to do so just like when I first got the laptop (all while at factory defaults with nothing installed and no internet access). I call Acer again and they set up for me to send it for repairs a 2nd time.
I get my laptop back 2 weeks later and see that they replaced the GPU and RAM. Still blue screen like before, and I call them up again. Acer level 1 support redirects me to level 2 support this time. Acer level 2 support guy tells me they'll have me send it in for their special "engineer-level" support. I tell him I'm on vacation and can't send it for 2 weeks and he says it's fine and just send it then. So I do.
4 weeks after I send it in, it comes back. I had called Acer to check on the status on why it's taking so long and was told the engineer was replacing the motherboard, GPU, and RAM and testing it. When I got it back, the notes only said they replaced the GPU and RAM and did testing.
I notice my laptop (which was brand new condition when I sent it in the 3rd time) had a bunch of nicks and cuts all over it. And when I removed the battery, I see a fat ass hole impacted into the chassis underneath. I call Acer and ask them about this. They tell me that the engineer replaced my lower chassis because it was damaged. I told them it was not damaged, and I asked them that if it was, why they would replace it with one that is also damaged. I also asked if the motherboard was replaced, they said no (so someone is lying to me). Acer then sets me up to send my laptop back in so they can evaluate the damage and see if it is cosmetic or crucial (they only fix it if they deem it not a cosmetic damage). I tell them that I already sent in the laptop 3 times and I haven't yet checked if the blue screen was gone. They tell me that's ok and to call them back if the blue screen is still there and I haven't shipped in my laptop for the chassis damage yet.
I check my laptop right after I hang up. Instant blue screen within first hour. I call them back and Acer says they'll give me a replacement because this is an exceptional case. They tell me to wait 48 hours as they select a replacement laptop for me.
48 hours later, I get no phone call. So I call them. Acer tells me the guy who said I can get a replacement was not authorized to tell me that. I'm sick of their shit so I demand to talk to their highest authority so I can demand a replacement because I'm not gonna wait another 2-4 weeks so they can attempt to fix the problem again when they've failed the first 3 times (at this time, the laptop has been in shipping and repairs longer than in my hands).
I get redirected to their highest authority after a long hour and a half hassle because she said I cannot talk to him. I talk to the guy and tell him my situation. He tells me he will get back to me in 24 hours and gives me his number.
24 hours later, he didn't call me. So I call him. He tells me that he looked into my situation. He tells my my case is not exceptional enough to warrant a replacement. I ask him what is exceptional enough. He tells me 3 repairs is. I ask him why 3 repairs and that I did send it in for 3 repairs. He tells me 3 repairs because of precedent of similar cases. He then explains to me that the first two times, they did not see a blue screen. But the third time, they did. So he had the galls to tell me that the first two repairs "did not count" (those exact words). And that I'd have to send it in for repairs "at least 2 more times" before they consider a replacement. That's at least 5 repairs (each taking 2 or 4 weeks for me to get my laptop back).
What a piece of shit company. I talk to NewEgg about this. They were the ones who sold me the Acer laptop (NewEgg is one of Acer's certified sellers as they do not sell themselves, so they told me). I had contacted NewEgg about this problem when I first saw the blue screen and they told me to deal with it through Acer. NewEgg was another hurdle with two cases of the employees contradicting each other and one of the employees not being up to date on a new policy and giving me incorrect information, but I'm not gonna detail the problems and trash NewEgg, too, because it was them who eventually gave me a partial refund. So I lost $125 in the end and had an annoying 3+ months.

I've an acer aspire, works fine except the fan recently got ridiculously loud. Don't want to send it back because i've got a lot of work I need to do on it. Might just open it up and see what the problem is.

Can't vouch for their PC's but I have the Acer Predator 34inch monitor and it has met all expectations. Sorry for your luck with the PC.
