before instinctively answering yes... ok anyways here's the story.
but first, back ground story. so last night I had some fucked up dream where someone breaks into my house and kills me. also, something like this has happened to me before twice, although obviously I wasn't killed. once just 4-5 years ago at this same house I'm living at now, these guys tried to break down the door, really scary experience actually. I heard these people knocking on the door as I was getting out of the shower, but since I was naked I just ignored it. They kept knocking, and the knocking got louder, and soon they were pounding on the door and kept ringing the doorbell. At this point I'm like "WTF is going on here", and it kept going, then they started kicking the door really hard.
I ran downstairs and yelled out "I'm calling the police" and I guess they ran off. Luckily, the door to my house was really sturdy, but it actually had caved in and we ended up needing to replace the entire door, probably a few more kicks would have broken it in.
Second time, when I was younger I was sleeping over at my friends house and in the middle of the night someone broke into the house and there was some scuffling and my friends dad almost got shot.
OK, backround story finished; here's what happened today.
----
So my dad is out of town this weekend to go to some wedding and he asks me to come down to LA to take care of his cat and dog. Also, he's remodeling the house because it looks like a complete piece of garbage, and he told me the painter guy was going to come Saturday early morning to finish the painting, and that he had given the guy a key and told me not to freak out or anything.
I get to LA (from San Diego) and it's about 11:30, I'm tired as fuck, the house is a mess, smells like paint, there's shit everywhere. Both beds (my old bed and my dads bed) are covered in furniture moved out of the way, so I clear off the couch downstairs and I plug in my laptop and I"m just watching some reps while I get ready to go to sleep.
All of a sudden I hear knocks on the door, door bell rings, more knocking. And I'm like "WTF this guy is coming to pain the house at midnight, somethings fucked up" .... but then I remember this guy supposedly has a key, and the person keeps knocking.
There's a little window that looks outside, and this person has moved over and knocks on the window (I guess they saw me sitting on the couch from the window)... so since I know whoever saw me, I walk over to open the door.
It's some lady I've never seen before and she tells me how she lives in the unit next to me (I live in a town house), and how she was out of town and whoever was watching her house for her had used too many locks on the doors and she was locked out of her house. So she asks me if I have a ladder so she can climb up on the balcony and get inside that way. I say "I don't think I've got a ladder here, sorry". Then she asks me if I can go help her by I guess picking her up / giving her a boost so she can get up her balcony and into her house.
So at this point I'm like "uh wtf this reeks of being completely weird, and I've never seen this lady before in my life" so I told her "sorry I don't feel comfortable doing that I can't help you" .
Moral of the story? Am I a bad person for not helping her? Or was my slight paranoia (I guess) grounded, because I've had some pretty shitty experiences here... and fuck if I wanna get killed or some shit.
Also another side story. Once a few years back I was outside the house, putting in a new light bulb on the little lamp outside the front door, and this black guy walks up to me and asks me if I have a pen he can borrow. I'm thinking he's some college student or something, so I say "ya sure" and give him a pen. He walks a little down the walkway near another house, and I change the light bulb etc, and a few minutes later he walks back and gives me my pen back and says "thanks". Ok, I don't think anything of it, I go back inside.
Later that night the police come knocking at my door. They say there was a robbery in the house next door (same house this lady I met today claimed she lived in). They ask me if I saw anything strange, and I say no. Then they say they have a suspect, and gave me this description, and it matched exactly the guy I let borrow a pen. He was wearing some letterman-type jacket that said "Viagra" on the back, and the Police officer said "have you seen a black male wearing a jacket that said Viagra on it" and I was thinking to myself "WTFFFFFFFFF" - so I told them ya I saw him and I let him borrow a pen but I don't know what he did with it.
I guess he somehow used the pen to break into the other house?
No idea... but point being, I've seen and encountered a lot of crap, especially in this complex.
So am I a bad person for not helping this lady?

|
you have some shady shit going around your house lol
so.. no?
|
id say no... wtf kind of lady expects a random guy to help lift her onto a balcony when you dont even know her or know if its even her house or not
|
|
When stuff like this happens to me, I'm the type of person that goes super paranoma and look every inch of my room before i go to sleep, open my eyes to see if anyone's in room room then close eyes again and repeat -_-..hopefully all goes well for u and u dont die lol. and to answer ur question..no
|
Um I would help the lady but I don't think your a bad person. American news is meant to be scary.
|
Nah, that little event doesn't make you a bad person. What makes you a bad person is scheduling a nation war on Easter a couple years ago.
|
i would help the lady for karma sake. i mean what could go wrong?
just make sure you lock your dads house incase she was luring you out so some people could rob you. i dunno
|
I wouldn't help a "neighbor" I never saw before, especially in a townhouse or apartment setting.
I'm not the one who interacts with my neighbors but at least I met them a few times and know their face.
So you're not a bad person for helping out the lady.
|
didnt read... but wanted to tell you
Bad/Terrible
|
If she really lives there, she could call a friend to help her. Why ask a stranger. =/

Sup Xeris.
No. You're not a bad person for not helping that lady. You had a lot of crazy shit happen to you, and that's why you reacted the way you did. It was a good/smart move you made - because just like the situation w/ that black guy that u let borrow a pen, u coulda heard on the news the next week that some strange lady broke into ur neighbors apartment/condo and looted them for all their jewerly or managed to find some of their information to steal their identity (the real neighbors).
The world we live in today is scary and totally fucked up. I don't blame anyone for almost anything anymore - except for obvious shit like a petaphile etc. You can't hardly trust anyone anymore.
Member back in the day, the days of hitchhikers. They used to get around everywhere just by hitching a ride.. well these days, u can't tell if the hitcher is going to slice-n-dice you and steal ur car, or even if the person willing to give a hitcher a ride wouldn't just beat the shit out of the hitcher and leave 'em for dead on the highway (both incidents have happened more than once).
It's the same w/ everything. I watch the news about petaphiles and child-molesters etc.. they do some undercover video work to catch these assholes and u'd never believe the type of guys coming to this sting-house, to potentially have sex w/ a girl thats supposedly anywhere from 13-16 years old (and these guys are like so totally not ur 21 yr old college dood, they're like 32-58) Guys like doctors, school-bus drivers, priests (this has been in the news numerous times for them molesting little boys, rather than girls) and even fucking army personell... that makes me lose all hope right there.. Ppl who are supposed to be protecting the country, all of our lives and our freedoms and they're trying to molest someones child.. (wasn't just 1 army person, more like 5).
So ya.. You were totally justified for the way u acted. You shouldn't even have asked for our input, w/ what u've alrdy experienced. LA is a crazy place too.. like once of the craziest. The type of place where a group of guys will come up to u and start shit w/ u just because u're wearing a shirt/jacket that has the color red on it.. ppl get shot for less.. like i said - the world is fucked up. At least, parts of America. Then again, it's also the greatest country in the world... so it's kinda give-n-take.

ROFL that's pretty sketchy you need to move to a better neighbourhood buddy. shit.
and no you are not a bad person.
|
|
yes you are and you know it : )

|
You were just uncomfortable that doesn't make you a bad person.

lol happy birthday

Nah man, you were right. If you've never seen the person before, you definitely shouldn't help them get into the neighboring house. If it was her place, it's not like she couldn't get someone else to help let her back in, ya know?
|
Lol dude, your neighbourhood sucks. And yes, you did the right thing.
|
Interesting neighborhood, man.
|
|
Hahaha funny post man. I don't think you're bad, but I do want to tell you to man up. Just because you had some bad experiences in the past, you shouldn't let them scare you for the rest of your life when something similar arises. This lady could seriously be in need of some help, come in her shoes, how dissapointed would you feel if you were her?
The plain fact that you're wondering if what you did was bad, tells me you're not a bad guy at all. Just don't let overanalysis and fear of the worst possible scenarios keep you from taking the right decisions.
|
Nope. Sketchy people at late hours = you can send them on their way and feel no form of guilt whatsoever.
|
Stories like that make me really glad I live in Switzerland.
If you lived here and told me that story, yes, I would think you're an idiot for not helping her, but I really can't blame you considering the fucked up shit that's already happened to you in that neighbourhood.
|
Can we get a poll for this ?
but serously no your not a bad person
|
are you asking for our entertainment or do you really need the opinion of others to determine your self worth?
|
I would have done the same thing, but perhaps out of laziness oppossed to your caution lol
|
Nope, you are not a bad person.

Reminds me of the time my dumbass neighbor asks to borrow a ladder to get into his window cus he locked his room door and lost the keys for the doors inside the house. The dumbass part: it was a horrible thunderstorm outside and he wanted to take our bigass metal ladder and climb up to his second story.

nope not at all
first of all, how would you know if this lady was trying to break into "her" house? maybe the house isnt even hers... shes just trying to steal something.
I would not help the lady either until I was absolutely sure that she lived there.
and about the guy and the pen. thats ok too.. how do u know hes trying to do something bad? like holy crud its just a pen. and he gave it back after a few minutes too...
its not your fault dont worry

nah you're not a bad person just careful. different people have different experiences and you had some rough ones so you're a little careful so what?. no biggie imo but sometimes you should look on things a little bit brighter perhaps.

No, because you had good reason to do what you did.

Maybe I would have offered to call a locksmith for her, but beyond that if I didn't recognize her as being my neighbor and my gut feeling told me something was wrong no way in hell I open the door.. unless of course I was really bored, then I'd grab my LeMat and go out and help.

awful person.
hahah jus playing :D, i would've said the same thing... you never know what can happen these days :|.
|
You had no way of authenticating her. Hence, you were not only justified you took the ONLY correct course of action.
also; lolwtf @ the guy who started talking about "petaphiles".
|
No that was the right thing to do. You shouldn't let random strangers come to your house
|
Was she hot? I once helped a neighbor like 4 years ago cause she saw my garage open with a ladder and a bunch of workout stuff when. She was mid 30s probably and she needed a ladder and a boost to get on the roof and down to her patio to get in the back door. The whole time she was asking me personal questions (in the PuAs people call these IOI's which I didn't know at the time) about if I workout, how long I lived there, what I did for a living, if I was married (lol, im 21). I was really tired at the time cause I stayed up all night and just finished watching Constantine TS in lounging clothes. So I was rather taken back by the whole thing being out of it and still thinking about the weird movie.
But if I could do it all over again, I probably could have fucked the lady right then and there. She seemed really horny and friendly. lol
but anyways, no you're not a bad person. The world is completely fucked up, and you are smart for not trusting anyone. Besides that it's not your problem, so you don't have to do anything unless you get something out of it (satisfaction can be enough).
