So, lately what I've gotten into is something like...a mix of jazz and hip hop. It's an amazing combination.
To those of you that know Nujabes, he's one of my favorites. He's a Japanese DJ/producer who goes by the name of Seba Jun (His name backwards-> Nujabes!) and he produces jazz-like/chill beats. Often, rappers are featured in some of his amazing instrumentals.
So I went further into this kind of music and found some awesome, unknown artists that I had never heard of. I felt like I wanted to share with you guys! (NO DL THIS TIME!)

Ah disappointing. It sounds really good but it's just hip hop based on jazz samples. Like i was thinking live performancish beat with some actual improvization involved. That i'd like to hear.
Some of this stuff is pretty cool but it tends to get very repetitive and the rappers involved are plain awful 95% of the time. Cudos on digging out Supersci though, don't know how you came across them considering they're pretty underground even by swedish standards.

A lot of hip hop fans might say that this is ruining hip hop by adding jazz on top of it.
Really though, neither is the case.
Hip Hop in a way is an extension and continuation of the movements that lead to the creation of Jazz, though. Jazz Hip Hop in a way is just a combination of the old and new.

it's more commonly known as nu jazz and yes, most jazz musicians will hate it. true hip hop fans are down though, and that's more important imo. lots of nu jazz and chillout stuff comes from the ninjatune label, if you wikipedia it has a list of all their signed bands, so many of those bands are nu jazz and worth checking out. 9 lazy 9 is the only one i can come up with off the top of my head but they're pretty cool

ninja tune is the shit. i have pretty much every album from that label lol.
I love jazz. I listen to jazz every day. I have to say I don't think this has much to do at all with jazz. Seems to miss the whole conversational element of jazz improvisation, especially when looping prerecorded samples and rapping over it. Good to see other instruments actually seeing more use in mainstream though.
