Is it true that the feel of runner's high, is similar to taking opium? I've heard that as a rumor, but not sure if its true. If any TL memebers smoked opium im sure you can give your input here... :D (though i doubt there's any).
I just ran like 8 miles, on a straight road however i didn't feel like that i had endorphines running down my body, like as intense as the first time i've ran for a long time. Is that normal? How do i achieve the similar feel of runner's high when i just started running, now that i'm more experienced? Just run more and faster at the same time?

Should ask zulu and the other chinamen.

Run until you can't run anymore. That's when you'll start feeling the endorphines. If your hair isn't wet with sweat by the end, you've done it wrong.

I have always wanted to smoke opium but it seems to be the one drug thats really hard to get a hold of.
Endorphins and opiates such as opium, morphine, heroin, etc., effect the same pleasure zones within your brain. Studying opiates is what actaully led scientists to discovering endorphins.

Now I know what keeps people doing jogging...

Yangpan, back when I was just a little black boy(racial slur edited for the weak :O ) I played a lot of Final Fantasy, and whenever I was tired or exhausted I'd think of 'Limit Break' from the FF7/8/9 games. After that I basically tore away the subconcious chains that keep your body from injuring itself by trying too hard, yeah I know sounds so cliche TV-ish or some word for that.
So far I've experienced it twice (it's also called your '2nd wind') where everything feels like you're running on air and you can't go fast enough to get rid of the feeling and you never tire. For the most part my self-dubbed 'limit break' (keep in mind i was 9-11y/o then) basically blocked out the pain but is not to be confused with the 2nd wind or, endorphins blah blah self-drugged super-powars. Of course there is no surefire way(as far as I know I never really bothered I was too young to really care) to get it, it just sort of happens , but when it does trust me you WILL know.

THAT'S WHY THAT GUY SAID HE COULDN'T RUN WITH A BONER IN GYM CLASS!!! SUDDENLY IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!!!

You need to exercise regularly (at least a few times a week), and you need to work hard. Just because your body is releasing endorphins doesn't mean your body will get "high" from them. The "high" comes from prolonged exposure to the endorphins over a period of time causing you to become addicted to them. When you stop exercising your body will in a sense want them back. When you start exercising again and the endorphins are released you feel "high" because your body is getting back the thing it is addicted to.

I have no idea what opium highs feel like, but runner's highs can be powerful shit. Several times I've run on injuries without even really feeling it.
|
i felt it before, just one thing u need to know - if u done enough drugs u wont ever feel endorphines kick in thats the sad part
|
If only I could run that far I would tell you +_+.
Running for me more like an achey hell.

Opium and endorphins affect the same zones in the brains and they bring pleasure. They both have analgetic effect. But the similarities stop here.
Opium also leads to a state where you can't move actively and just sit or lay and dream about fluffy clouds and pink stuff. Pleasurable things.
While endorphins stimulate also the muscular activity of the body. I mean when I am working out really hard, like doing series with 7-8 reps, comes a time when I really want to train harder but I just can't do it cause my muscles are very tired already. I feel it's much like snorting cocaine or amphetamines. I jump around all night and at the end I want to jump more but my feet refuse to.
