I think basically every blog I've ever posted in this site has been a sad one. I posted about a girl breaking my heart in high school, I wrote about my dad having a heart attack.. so I figure I'll post a good one.
Before SC2 came out, I was a Brood War player that was really improving. I went from C- to B- from May of 2009 to February of 2010. I was starting to play really good Koreans and do pretty well. I had some really good friends that would give me really good advice and I used that to improve my game as well, and I consider myself very fortunate for that. Like pretty much everyone else, I was excited for SC2 and I was one of the first people in line outside of my local Gamestop, ready to get my hands on a copy.
Unfortunately, after many attempts, I just could never find the same love for SC2 that I had for BW. I've ended up playing a lot of League of Legends and CS:GO and really wanted to get into those games. They're both absolutely amazing games, but I just couldn't have that same competitive spirit for those games either, despite them being absolutely huge right now.
However, it seems like I got kind of lucky. I was craving some Brood War a few months ago and I saw there was an upcoming tournament. I messaged the guy running it and was able to secure a spot, despite not having played a game for a while.. and man it's been awesome. I haven't had my competitive juices running like this in a long time, no game I tried has ever hit me like Brood War has. I love how every action is so important and doing the little things right can add up to such a huge advantage. I immediately signed up for another tournament as well and started getting some games going on iCCup and what not. I played in a match on Saturday and had the same exact feeling that I used to have.. where I was so into the match and so freaking happy after winning. I'm nowhere as good as I used to be but it doesn't even seem to matter, the matches I play are still as intense and meaningful.
So basically the point of this tiny blog post, as I watch Star Final Six and still feel happy after watching Jaedong vs. Stork yesterday, is that I'm back to Brood War. The scene is certainly smaller than it used to be, but the game is just as fun as it's always been and I'm having a blast. I've met a lot of new people, which is amazing, but I've also seen some players that I remember from a long time ago and that makes me happy too. I think there's a lot of people that would like to come back to Brood War but fear that the community is too small and finding a game is too hard. I had these same worries, but really the community is still pretty active, with a growing Korean scene and hopefully another upcoming TLS, and finding a game on iCCup is not hard at all. My only complain is that I can't play Koreans on iCCup anymore, I have to go to Fish to play them, but it's basically trivial.
Thanks for reading!

The thing that I miss about BW most is watching players like Jaedong and flash battle it out on the proleague and OSLs. I played with friends but never really that competitive. Watching the games though with huge crowds and fancy intros were just awesome. I had a lot of expectations for SC2 and enjoyed it for a while but it just never felt the same as BW.
I remember waking up at like 4am to watch finals matches and pissing my parents off haha. Those were some awesome times. I so wish we had this back

Cool stuff! May I hijack this blog as its the perfect place to communicate something to the intended audience. If you are reading this blog and thinking you would like to try out broodwar and want a nice relaxed environment, you can try out a custom map I just finished. It is up to 3v3. Each player starts with an army. One team is defending a city, and the other team attacks! Nice and simple. A game lasts only 10 minutes. Its just meant to be a fun way to try out some micro. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/452029-ums-map-6jaicho-city-assault

In fact you need to make a BGH map with an observer (additionally one where I can cause random chaotic even to happen like the game maker in Hunger games. It would help community BW on tuesdays a ton and give you shameless promotion form my stream.
OT: Welcome back to bw <3

Since I can't just quote a post without saying anything.
I agree with Endy. What's stopping you? BW is so easy to pick up again. Even if you have to work your way back up.

Pick up mca launcher, there are literally hundreds of B+/A- korean players looking for games on fish and the lat is not noticeable 99% of the time if that's your deal. I actually think it has better lat than iccup ^^. Either way, welcome back!

I get unhealthy compulsions to start mass gaming. I'll play a couple games and then realize I need to play so much to improve/play better and have better mechanics. for me I can't really just play a couple games for fun with a game like broodwar.

So you're the exact opposite of OP who gave up CS:GO and LoL because he could not feel the same competitive spirit as BW.
