Some critics about WCS Global Finals ...

Hi everyone, I'm writing this kind of critic for the first time, as I really felt some things were not well organized and some things were missing yesterday during the first day of the WCS Global Finals.

I don't want to write a super big thread about it, so I'll try to stay short in every point discussed, and explain whyy there is a problem and how it could be solved.

1) 16 Top players, not all playing at the same stage / same crowd

So at the beginning it felt kind of shocking for me to see that 2 games would be played simultaneously, as these are the best games people were awaiting ! Afterwards I was even more shocked and felt it was kind of unfair that some players had a big public watching their games, and others did'nt have any public ( or way less) . I think this is a failure because the power a public (the spectators) can give to the players, influence their gameplay and mindstate , so the players having less public were maybe not that happy, and alreadyy upset to not play in front of a big public...

It kind of hurted the ambiance ( athmosphere ) of the games on twitch , as we couldnt hear any screams or claps from the public for the games played at the second stage.

I really think that every TOP 16 player should have had that opportunity to play in the main stage in front of that big crowd!

2) 15 Koreans in the Top 16 , but where are their commentators?

I was wondering yesterday where the hell were the korean commentators , if they were at the venue , what was up with them ?

Well, no information on that, I only saw Mr.Chobra translating for us ( european and american ) , but I have no clue if there were korean commentators at the venue, if they got invited by blizzard etc...
For me it seems logic that if we have 15 South-koreans in the top 16 of the World, that Blizzard should invite the southkorean commentators, give them a place at the venue to stay and to cast in korean . I think the viewers did not receive any information on that, and that was missing IMO

... but I just hope that ncorean casters really got invited by Blizzard and that they are at the venue ...

I would also have loved to see a video or some coreans commentating about the corean scene , why they have 15 players in the TOP 16 etc ... because I mean , we viewers, should have some information about the country and the culture who has 15 players in the top 16 of the world , as it may be important and influence their results!

3)Biggest SC2 tournament ever!

Well , I also want to thanks BLizzard and the community for filling up the venue, and make this global finals really THAT BIG. It is the biggest Starcraft 2 tournament ever IMO , and I was really enjoying watching it yesterday .Going to watch it again today for sure until 6 hours in the morning in europe... SO Congratulations for having build up such a BIG Tournament !

LAST 2 things I would like to point out very shortly =>

I dont know how BLizzard wants to regulate the region lock of the WCS system , but please Blizzard , just think about having a finals like yesterday , with only 6 koreans, 6 europeans and 6 americans... Who the hell would think '' these are the best 16 players of the world'' ? Noone, because we know that koreans progamers are at the moment better than any other progamers( talking about starcraft 2 in general) .. So please dont let that happen. I don't want to see a Global finals where I alreadyy know that in the semi fainals there will be 4 koreans ( if they dont kill themselves before ...)

I want to see a Global Finals like Now, where I really think that 14 of the players present , are really in the Top 16 ( I m leaving Naniwa and Alive on the side, becazuse I thiink players like Life , FLash , or Parting/ Rain should have gotten that spot )

ok so please think about region lock and how you regulate it .. Please dont kill WCS global Finals

We europeans and americans should be able to see the links of korean streams and chinese streams and whatever stream of WCS global finals on the WCS Global Finals PAge or Thread or whatever !

Thanks BLizzard

Thanks the community

Thanks Starcraft for being so awesome !

I think I heard somewhere that OGN flew over casters to Blizzcon. I'm not 100% sure about it and I'll try to dig out the source but that's what I seem to recall.

There's this "Photos from WCS Finals" thread. There are pics of OGN commentators (TheMarine and GoRush if not mistaken) there. EVIDENCE HAS BEEN FOUND!

I agree on your point about how they decided to have 2 different streams on the first day playing different matches. I didn't like it either. I understand there are time constraints but... I only watched the main stream and I never got to see Polt or Hero or Taeja... I feel that all the matches should have been on the main stream because of how big and major this tournament is supposed to be. I mean, this is supposed to be the GRAND FINALS so all the matches should be shown in order to build it up. When I see sOs playing in the semi-finals against Bomber, I don't really seem to care because he only played on the second stream and I did not catch much of his games. If all the games were shown on the main stream, then all the players get an equal opportunity to build up a story line for people to follow

I think the two streams is good from Blizzard and paying customers point of view. If you want the full coverage then you are required to have the ticket to see all the games.
Second the Esports+ stage is now being used for First person views of each player which I think is a great idea, I can finally watch from Jaedongs point of view and perhaps pick up how to maximise my actions and his prefered method of micro of different units.

Stoked for Jaedong! Jaedong fighting!

I wouldn't even host this event at Blizzcon to be honest. It doesn't deserve to be there. It should be it's own event and every match should be treated like it's going to be an epic set on a big stage. Heck, we ran through this in two days too and it's supposed to be the big one. W-T-F.

There were Korean commentators. They had their own white couch and everything with like 3-5 cameras all to themselves.

Dunno what stream they were on but they were definitely there all weekend.

Yeah it was kinda weird that the Season 3 Finals played out every match on main stage yet the GLOBAL finals couldn't.

I dont know how BLizzard wants to regulate the region lock of the WCS system , but please Blizzard , just think about having a finals like yesterday , with only 6 koreans, 6 europeans and 6 americans... I agree, region lock would be tricky to implement. If it does getting implemented, WCS might turn into the BW days of WCG where every country-not-named-South-Korea is irrelevant in the global finals. But then again, maybe that's what people want. Maybe people want to be able to cheer for local heroes despite their global standing.

On a unrelated note: I'm kind of disappointed that Blizzard has decided to put its resources into developing a MOBA game rather than improving and finding ways to further monetize SC2. I'm not heavily invested into the Blizzard universe (only played Diablo and Starcraft) so seeing Diablo face Jim Raynor was the silliest thing ever.
