Just a moment ago I told myself that. My life is busy now...
Beside normal school/work stuff, I just started an indie game project after many discussions with my roommate about the gaming industry. This happened 2 weeks ago.
My internet went out for no less than 6.5 days since then. That gave me the chance of finishing A Storm of Swords and moving on to A Feast for Crows. I also did a quick review on C++ as well as get myself used to the SFML library of which I plan to use for my game project.
Along the way, books and articles and online courses popped up. Computer Graphic, Machine Learning, HTML5 application.... all suddenly became so relevant, so interesting. I found myself either diving into a sea of undocumented code or drowning in the fancy vocabulary that A Song of Ice and Fire has to provide.
I missed twitch, I also missed dota and I really hate it to let my progression in ixDL go to waste. But the greed of having your own game 'engine', the thirst for rights to criticize other game developers are bottomless pits. And I am falling deeper.
Cant talk much about my dream since ideas keep materializing one after the other just like animals mating post winter. I will keep my goal short and reachable though, I must. Assets will be the pain in the ass and I will be using a ton of place holders which could be found on open source communities.
In fact, why am I even wasting time on writing this blog? I could be reading A Feast of Crows right about now... Hope Valve gona come up with something good so I could go back and play DotA

Dota needs a patch badly. So many heroes that can single handedly ruin your game. I can see how stopping playing dota will give you so much more time, 7560 hours? thats insane.

Ahhhh if only I could be in college again... to have the time to plop down 7500 hours. With work and all I feel like 1200 hours played is a lot but then it's still nothing compared to what you can do when you have no obligations to anyone or anything in the world but yourself...

Ever since College I've had to stop playing starcraft  .

That is tooo much dota. I have like 300 hours, and I thought that was a lot. I go through periods where I love dota but than I go through periods where i hate everyone who plays it. Although I am in my last of year of college, I usually will play something for an hour each night, unless I got exams.

how much of that is idling and how much is in game? goddamn
midterm week has significantly decreased my playing time T_T

Dota just needs something in general, it used to be back in 2007 that the mod was enough content and a lot of veterans will say "I played Dota for so long without X" but fact of the matter is the gaming world is different today. Other games, very fun games, exist and while Dota was interesting for a while Valve is doing an extremely piss poor job of keeping the game fresh, I would be even happy with Parity and small patches but we are getting zero patches and we still don't have parity after 3 years.
I try not to be "that guy" who complains about Valve and Ded gaem and all that but it's hard not to be frustrated watching Valve do so little in the past year.
According to Cyborgmatt Valve is going to focus on big patches from now on so only time will tell if they deliver.

Good luck with your game.
Might want to ease off the DoTA though, as a childless working adult, it would take me over 18 years to rack up that playtime!

I thought me spending ~400 hours on disgaea was pretty scary.

Which is not all that massive compared to the playtime on the main character of dudes who have been playing WoW since vanilla.
Then again, the fact that it's even being compared to playtime in WoW means it's quite massive considering when the game was released.

If you assume a game is an hour each(which is long, I would give it 45min) then you have spend a ton of time afking ingame too.

Doesn't have to be afk though, could be watching tournaments etc.
