Sc2 being replaced with MLG, viewership declining, Gloom and doom on every community site, Koreans winning everything and Blizzard is no where to be found.

Maybe it's time I take up knitting, at least we still have Hearthstone

I try my hardest but sometimes the negativity gets through like a brick wave. I enjoy competition and as the NA scene collapses a lot of the competition goes with it.

Thats why we need national and regional tournaments. Everywhere the same is pretty boring.
90% of all teamleague tournaments are using all-kill format, the most boring format

I imagine a lot of people enjoyed that they felt they were a part of esports rather than actually enjoying playing the game.

Look at all the reluctance to play 1v1 that gets posted.

Bro, are you being real? This post is so ironic, it hurts. Just because foreigners are losing, doesn't mean the game is dying. Take a sec and cool off, the only thing killing sc2 is people saying stuff is killing it.

I don't want to be even more of a bummer but if you think being SC2 fan is depressing, try being a SCBW fan and not liking SC2.

Actually the lack of NA events and viewership declining caused most of my friends to pick up LoL and honestly while I enjoy Sc2 it's boring as hell if you don't know anyone who plays, that's the biggest problem for me anyway.

ouch.

I haven't actually played SCII in several weeks. My laptop's temps go up hardcore when I play so I decided to switch to mostly BW with some SCII with friends. Most of my friends don't play SCII anymore though and most that never did in the first place play Dota2 or LoL. Part of playing starcraft is playing games against friends and teammates, doing wacky builds with them etc... but ya, guess that's not gonna happen anytime soon in my case XD BTW, OP, you should just ignore all those news and play SCII on the ladder normally. No reason to spread doom and gloom in the community more than it's already been spread with all the "SCII is dying" posts/thread

If you're complaining about Korean players taking everything then you'd be depressed since WoL got released.

Switch to another game/community like Dota or something where it's currently really popular, maybe it'd change your mood.

Yeah, I went through this for a while, but I just came to appreciate SC2 for what it is, an excellent game that gets shit on because it had to follow up an impossibly good game. If starcraft 2 was called something else and didn't have to do with broodwar, I'm sure it would get much higher regards from the community, although the community would probably be smaller.

I play the game for fun. I watch for fun. When I am not having fun I stop doing both of those. I will admit I HATE the WCS system, I have posted about it in other topics with how I would have designed it. I also will admit, I do kinda agree with you, it sucks to see Koreans come and stomp everyone, when I really want to see my favorite players play in tournaments. I find it more interesting to watch Naniwa play than I do with Rain for example. I will admit korean vs foreigner finals are always the most epic!

Well, maybe someday for me. I still follow the scene from a distance, watch a few games and try to catch big games of players I care about. Once in a blue moon, I catch a game which entertains me. But I'll always miss enjoying a vast majority of the games like I did in BW. I'll miss being so excited about an OSL/MSL/Proleague final that I'd wake up in the middle of the night on a school day to watch it.

WTF man? The amount of highlevel games to watch this year was the absolutely largest in SC2 history, with the 3-region WCS and SPL on top of it, with stuff like Dreamhack and ROG continuing as strong as ever. There was so much SC2 that I had to really cherry pick what to watch, otherwise I won't have the time to sleep. All of this with rising production values and great commentary. I have a really hard time seing, what your problem is.

I have good new for you. MLG did not drop SC2, they are just not running it with a conflicting event that weekend. They have said they want to run SC2 at other events. Just enjoy the game and try to ignore the haters. There will be great SC2 this weekend at Gamescom and we have all of season 3 to rock out too. Plus Blizzcon is coming up. Kids are going to say SC2 is dying, but they just look at stream numbers and say “its not the biggest, that’s dead”. That’s not how life works.

As always, “don’t read the comments” is a rule for life.

Koreans have been winning everything for ages, before HOTS was released. I'd say Blizzard is more visible now than they were back then.

Viewership might be declining though, MLG dropping SC2 was indeed a blow.

EDIT: Though yes, reading through the topic, I was reminded that there were rumors that MLG hasn't dropped it permanently.

Sometimes I imagine what happens when everyone just goes back to Broodwar. all the pros etc. Starcraft 2 got many people into Starcraft, but would the people really consider Broodwar when they come to the conclusion its way harder? I don't know, but would be amazing~~ _Imagine Broodwar scene being revived with tons of money in it :D

Why would it make you sad? It's not like viewership is in the low-mid hundreds... WCS NA, the weakest region, had like a consistent 40-50k viewers all weekend. That's a healthy, sustainable number. Like the amount of people complaining about just the timing with TI3 is just so ridiculous; you never hear baseball fans whine after the super bowl saying, "hmmph. We'll never get as many views as the super bowl. I'm sad". What matters is sustainability and we are reaching a point where we can say this is a sustainable scene. It's not perfect, I agree with that, but not because of viewers. The biggest problem right now is the stumbling North American scene which has its head held under water by Blizzard.

This thread is great encouragement for starting a thread on the Brood War nostalgia circle-jerk.

Yeah you can contemptuously call it nostalgia and circle jerking, while trying to justify the merits of SC2 on it's "sustainability". Pretty sad that business jargon and and e-sports cheerleading precedes or even substitutes actual love and passion for the game. BW was free of that at least, unless I'm remembering wrong (blinded by nostalgia would be apt in that case).

I'm not trying to "justify the merits of SC2 on it's "sustainability"". I'm stating a fact which is that while Sc2 isn't the most watched scene the place we are at now is sustainable to have pro players, events offline and online, personalities, casters etc. How am I even e-sports cheerleading? LOL. I'm sure the people who go to live events and who play this game a lot have a passion for it but you're too immature to realize that you not having passion for the game doesn't mean that NO ONE can have passion for the game. You've got a lot of growing up to do.

SC:BW has been getting it's ass kicked last few years, but I never gave up and felt down. Keep your chin up, guy.

I'm pretty sure in the past few years since it's "death" it's grown a bit, just from the exposure that got it, but I could be wrong.

Still a shadow of its former self.
