"Tieshan is busy running Lan’s restaurant, while Lao Lan helps Tieshan’s daughter with homework. Gwen sits down and looks at Tieshan; they embrace and kiss." Doesn't Tieshan have terminal cancer? "The staff also tells her that the prescription drugs are a daily chemotherapy regimen, and whoever is missing those drugs does not have long to live." Maybe something more bittersweet or just cut the drug bit out. I was honestly considering something bittersweet, but endings like that don't do well in competitions, or so I'm told. Its set in Asia, of course it has to have a "happy ending"...... sorry couldn't resist!

This is a really stupid approach. You should never change your vision in order to please the judges in a competition.

The first lesson of art that my father and grandfather taught me is that if you're doing nothing except enjoying yourself as an artist, it's just sheer dumb luck as to whether you have the right mix and scope of talent to make it or not. Only conscious effort can change that. It's artificial and stupid, but it's true.
