Hi TL,

My husband and I are planning to go to korea on june, just in time for the R2 of PL. I'm a huge bisu fan and he's a huge flash fan. This is the perfect time to watch the games live before bw ends...

Anyway, we need help.. Do you know where is the location (city, any landmarks, exact address?) where the games are played? We're looking to book a hotel nearby but we have no idea where this is located. Are the regular PL games and OSL games held on the same place? We're planning to watch OSL too. Any recommendation/suggestion or english websites that we can check?

I just want to make sure, we need to land in incheon airport, right? not in busan or elsewhere in south korea?

I'm so excited for this. We are hoping that we could have some air time when the camera shifts to audience. hehe We'll put a shout out to teamliquid in one of those papers/banners. You'll recognize us wearing our awesome TL shirts

thanks in advance for any comments

Yes, fly into Incheon and take the train or bus into Seoul.

Here's very good directions to the OGN Studio:

Incheon would be most likely, Gimpo wouldn't be bad. Busan would be suboptimal, but I'd recommend seeing the country more than Starcraft. Those are good directions. Moletrap has a video on it you can search for.

Thanks. I'll look into that tl forum and search moletrap's vid as well. Yeah, we plan to tour the country on the side but our main purpose would be sc games.

When I went to Korea to watch PL last month I flew to Gimpo Airport. It was cheaper, and it's much closer to Seoul.

It's super easy to find the OGN studio where the regular season games are played. It's literally in the same building as Yongsan (a major subway and train station) in Seoul, so you just go on the subway to that station, take a couple escalators to the top of the mall and voila, you're there. If anything, there's plenty of people who speak decent English working in the mall who could give you directions if you get lost.

However, I must say that watching a standard weekly PL game in person isn't all that amazingly incredible; if you're planning your trip to Korea just to watch a couple normal PL games, especially with the ambiguity of mixed format and stuff, you might be very disappointed. Going to a finals would be a completely different experience, but honestly aside from a chance to get a picture / autograph of the player you like, there's nothing special about a regular season game. :p If your mind is firmly set on going there to watch some Starcraft live, I'd suggest you try to time your trip around OSL finals or something, at least.

Err... Gimpo is much closer to OGN than Incheon, in terms of distance.

But yes, take the solid blue line (line #1) and get off at Yong-san Station. The subway map on the link posted above should show you where yong-san station is.

There are pictures that show you how to get to the stadium on that page, so memorize those pictures as well. Or just watch this video that I made last year (step by step guide from the subway station):

(tip: when leaving from yong-san, make sure you double check before going down to the stations..... it's little different with line #1)

Yeah. Most flights in still go to Incheon. (at least the majority) But Gimpo flights would actually be significantly more convenient.

Dope I forgot to read the whole context.

Landing in Incheon will be ideal because the airport is so much better than Gimpo (also, Incheon is the International Airport at the moment while Gimpo still has few International flights. Busan is 6 hours away from Seoul by car). If you book a hotel somewhere in the city, Gimpo would be closer to Seoul but Incheon does have a shuttle bus from the Airport to the city, so no worries about that.

If you're flying in from Canada, then you will be arriving at Incheon. As far as I know, Gimpo only operates domestic flights and flights to Japan/China.

There are plenty of hotels in Seoul, and it is relatively easy to get around, so I would first determine what kind of budget you have as the price range is pretty extreme.

If you need some basic help finding places I could try to help out I guess, feel free to leave a message here or PM me or something.

Speaking of watching live starcraft(I'm going to watch too. OSL), could you guys also give tips on approaching the players and asking for pics/autographs, like where are we going to go/wait for them, whom are we going to talk to, or what if that player lost but we don't want to miss the opportunity of meeting them? Are also those huge paper for signs thingy and the sharpies bought? Can we use those to get autographs?

That's #1 on DO NOT DO LIST.

Also, they might have sharpies but it is shared. Paper is given out at the venue.

Oh well, Flash better not lose to Jangbi. Do they leave after their games are done(in the OSL) or after all the games are played? Do we just wait for them to go out(or where are we exactly allowed to approach the players) and do they exit the venue the same way as everybody else or they have some special door behind the studio?
Sorry that I'm asking more questions more than the OP does... I'm getting paranoid at the possibility of failing at that one day.

Some have fan meetings, but I missed out on one (because they never told me where it was). Usually its outside of the stadium and they have a brief meeting. Afaik.

I think Kiett knows more about this.

I grabbed Bisu easily at the end of the press conference after PL finals, but I'm not sure there's a press conference after OSL games.

yeah! we know that finals are definitely more awesome to watch than the regular PL games but we don't have other time to take vacation days and it's expensive to make immediate travel plans. our main purpose is to see the players, get star struck, get autographs and picture

we're flying from the philippines to korea. we're going back home this june to visit family and attend friends' wedding. and then at the same time we're going to go to korea, just taking a side trip to watch PL games. flying to korea from canada is much more expensive than buying a round trip ticket from philippines to korea. we'll probably be landing at incheon, i checked the local airlines in philippines and they're only flying at incheon or busan.

thanks for all of your help/suggestion.

What? This is the last OSL(Afaik), so I'm obviously referring to the current one. I'm going to watch the Ro16 week 2 day 1 on May 22, so I guess I'll be the one to blog first .

I hope Kiett could pop in in this thread and give us some advice, maybe that hardcore Stork fan too(Daniel(?) I think) since it was OSL to and OGN gave him a lot of stuff other than having the autograph of the commander himself.

Um, after OSL games players just walk out the same door as the viewers do. :p You might have to wait around 15-30 minutes or even longer at the exit (I had to wait for almost an hour for Stork :S), but there will be other people outside as well that you can chat with and such. You pretty much just walk up to the player and tell them you'd like to get a picture / an autograph from them, they might not be super excited about that especially or something, but they're not going to flat out reject you or anything, either.

Also, I've only been to two ODT games so perhaps it's different if the player you're rooting for loses in semi-finals or something, but the players who got knocked out of ODT were still talking to their fans / friends outside and I'm sure getting a picture with them, especially when they see you're a foreigner, wouldn't be a big deal.

Yeah, if Flash loses would lose to Jangbi at that day, would he still be offended if I'll ask for some photos and a signature? I mean, come on, that's my only chance EVER to meet him in person and it's round robin, he just lost once, that's like losing once in a Bo3 and he's not completely out yet and he would probably win against action in his first game so that would just make him 1-1 and I'm going to lose my, literally, once in a life time chance just because Jangbi proxied or something . If you guys don't think so, then I won't if he loses. Again, I apologize to the OP. I should've made my own blog. Reading this helped a lot too, but I could only hope I have as many chances as this guy .

The only time I wouldn't go up to a player, is if he has a crushing defeat, or loses his last set/game. I cannot imagine a pro gamer who wouldn't like to meet an excited fan. To most it probably lifts their spirits, to some it may annoy them a little but I doubt it if you're sincere and don't take up his time.
