Hello everyone, im a mid-high master's level protoss player and I need some ways / though processes to motivate myself to MASS ladder games. I want to be high master / GM level, but it takes a lot of "mass gaming" sessions to get there. Currently I play a few games, then stop queuing as I'm too nervous / frustrated.

Just a few things that worry me when I want to queue for ladder;
-The setting isn't right. I'm not warmed up. I'm not focused. It's too hot/cold. etc.
-I don't want my Win / Loss ratio to go negative. A lot of people on forums / on my team will immediately think I'm a BAD master play for having a negative W/L, but realistically if I do go negative it's because I'm playing super-high level master players, it's not that I'm losing to the bad master players (ex. I posted on the bnet forums, someone says ur w/l is negative ur bad etc, when realistically my rank is high in masters)

-Don't want my "ego" shattered. In the back of my mind i think I'm an amazing sc2 player with mechanics at the level of huk etc (my apm is pretty high!;p).. but I'm not. And I have to face this, and truely realize it. That way, If I lose a frustrating game I don't immediately start thinking wth I'm so good how did i lose to this scrub ETC

So, what are some thought processes to help me correct this? I actually have 2 master accounts but now they both have my team name in it so I feel pressured to win on both lol.. I want there to be no pressure T_T

Thanks!

You realize your putting all this "pressure" on your self right? Its not like this is your job and you need to win to keep your rent or something. Also stop caring about what other people think when it comes to your W/L, its just the ladder... I think your pride or "ego" is ruining your ability to play. You need to just think about the game more and less of this other stuff. Also why not just play a bunch of custom games if you really don't want your w/l to get messed up. My two cents lol, Good luck!
Greed leads to just about all losses.

record is everything. If you are gonna slip up on a big win streak, think of the gayest strategy to do, preferrably proxy 2 gate or cannon rushes to maintain this streak. By not losing, you will attain the mmr required to become a grandmaster.

I usually play some team games before I go into 1v1 ladder because I can test out the lag and how I feel about sc2 today.
About the win/loss ratio, I am not a master but I would tell you just ignore it. If that's the reason why you think you don't want a bad w/l ratio, then just ignore b.net. I mean bnet forum is a pretty bad place to talk about anything because of how much trolling there are...
About the Ego, yes, I do feel this way too. Luckily that also means that I know what aspect I can work on to get better.

A few things I like to keep in mind while laddering are:
1. The best aren't good because they didn't play
2. If you are going to improve, it shouldn't rely on whether you "felt like it" or not.
3. Embrace your losses. A player with an open mind to losses will be able to rationally examine while they lost and maybe fix the problem they had.

Now to address a few of your problems:
1. Saying you win vs high masters and lose to low masters is the wrong way to go about it. Blame your losses on yourself, not the other player.
2. If you don't want your ego shattered, then get so good that you never lose, just like the pros did.
3. You never lose to scrubs. They beat you after all, how could they be?

Why are there so many threads about this? Stop being a baby. I don't even want to elaborate what that means, just stop being a baby. No one respects you now, you're not going to lose anything. If you're worried about your team judging you based on your record, literally all you have to do is play some games with your fellow team members to give them the confidence you aren't slipping.

yeah i understand, and it doesn't help that people are so mean on ladder >.<. I can't turn on "friend's only chat" or then my teammates can't message me, so I get a ton of BM after games which tilts / makes me even more scared to ladder. ie. I lose a game where I go for a 2 base all in, the zerg bms me after the game like crazy

take your finger, put it in the door frame, slam the door on it hard. then, every time you lose a game and experience ladder fear, know that it will never be as bad as what you just did to your finger. major payne approves.

Just go all out my friend. Who cares what everyone thinks of you? You're bettering yourself, you'll not find one person in history who didn't take a risk to better their position. There are rarely free ways of bettering yourself, and mass laddering is one of them. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN HURT YOU OUT THERE. You'll still have a house, a family, friends and others. They may lose respect for you, but as Chef said, "if they are starting to doubt you, then all you have to do is play them and they will see that you are the same place if not better ."

There are people who do things and people who talk about doing things. If you keep playing games you might lose a couple extra just due to fatigue, but you need to play some marathon sessions until you can play any strategy e-sport @ its highest level. GL on the ladder.

when you want to warm up, play 1-5 2v2 games before you ladder 1v1. I do this alot, because of uni i cannot play everyday so i play a few 2v2's where i dont care if i lose or not because all im doing is practising my builds! :D.

Stop looking at your W/L everyday. its like stocks, if you look at your stocks everyday you will go crazy because it changes so much everyday. try to only look at it once a week, or once a month, it will level out.

If you can give simple reasons like these (if they are the real reasons) for why you don't want to ladder, then you don't need this forum to tell you.

If you can't, then nothing anyone will say will help.

There are some people in this thread that I'd like to call tools, but TL rules and all that.

force yourself to accept that getting better is more important than winning
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

That's pretty much what I do when I play, I went from Masters to Gold after not playing for close to a year and its hard to lose a ton of games to players who would usually be "inferior" but just shrugging off that ego and enjoying yourself is key. BW also has recently taught me to not bother losing, that game makes winning feel amazing but losing feel common. lol

If you don't enjoy playing, then don't force yourself to do it. After all, what's the point in playing games if you don't have fun. Find a game that you think is fun and get good at that instead. That way you can enjoy yourself while getting to the top.

For me the right game is dota. I have tons of fun while getting better all the time.
