I'm having massive TSL withdrawals... not the korean team, i mean the best tournament of all time SC2 history when Thorzain pulled off the most amazing run to get 1st place! :D

When do you speculate the next tournament will occur?

I wouldn't expect next TSL until HotS is out. I don't know if flamewheel has some awesome inside knowledge for the date, but december 2012 sounds very reasonable.

Why does everyone talk about TSL3 and how awesome it was? TSL 1 and 2 were phenomenal as well!

TSL2 was really something. I loved the hype being build up week by week, it's the strongest point TSL have. It takes 2 months to get to the finals but it so much worth it.

Prediction for TSL4? February 2013.

Because I think for most of us it was our first. Many of of us have heard the legends of NonY's TSL2 victory and a famous CC cancel but have never seen it with our own eyes.

Thorzains run through TSL3 was the most memorable experience Iv ever had watching Starcraft. I remember the very start of the tournament when Thorzain was up against fruitdealer, and the poll was something like 98% in favor of fruitdealer, I almost didnt want to watch the game because i was worried it would just be a stomp. an hour later Thorzain has FD on the ropes and wont miss a single baneling mine on terminus (pretty sure it was terminus), pushing with thors to close it out.

I have never been so excited watching any competition in my life, nor emotionally attached. The rest of his run was equally amazing, right up to the smash comeback against Nani. Also Goody.

Cant wait for TSL4.

TSL3 was incredible. It had lots and lots of upsets when almost all Koreans were eliminated in the first round, the rise of Thorzain, the Thorzain vs MC series...

I don't remember much of TSL1&2, except they had the sickest production value ever for a non-live tournament: awesome music (down Down DOOOWWWN!!), drawn progamer portraits, and even hype and intro videos. Also, there were no Koreans because they would have raped too hard.

Indeed! Although if you play BW at all I would highly recommend watching TSL's 1+2. The finals for both were so dramatic and breathtaking.

Wasn't around for 1 but i think TSL2 was better than 3. I think its just cause the game was sooooo new then. Altough I enjoyed seeing mondragon compete and goody winning against nestea.

and lol at all of you who already forgot about

Hell charging $20 for a 2 month long, fucking amazing HD tournament that the community will be shitting them selves over for months afterwards? Yes, yes I'm pretty sure no one would complain.

TSL2 was insane, the storylines seemed so much better, but maybe that's because the game was more developed. Even the qualification (make an iccup name with TSL in it, then the top 48 qualify to play for a spot) was intense, because you could watch who was in/out in a day to day basis.

Hahah, these jokes aren't made enough, but no one gets them.
This is a reference to when blizzard asked if we "really wanted chat channels", not a legit question... Sheesh

Anyway, TSLs are not something that should be rushed. Too often and they'd lose that special touch

I cant understand why its so hard to organize something like this. I'm not sure it would be better then GSL,MLG or DH. It's just TL's will to make spectacle by doing rare but strong tournaments. Best thing about TSL4 will be hype, waiting while tour by itself will not be as fun as any other a little stronger competition.

TSL 1 and 2 were so good. I remember Mondragon vs Dreiven, JF's run, Draco's return, Nony forgetting storm, so many good matches. Then TSL 2 was just as good, especially with Nony's heroics through the entire thing. Shame we won't see another BW TSL

TSL2 is best TSL hands down.
TSL3 was okayish, kinda average, not very exciting.

The most memorable point of all TSLs was Idra vs Nony in the quarterfinals of TSL 2.

TSL 3 was great, though. Thorzain's legendary run, the Koreans getting dominated early, the amazing finals. Can't wait for the next one!

I want a TSL4 just before HoTS so we can get the most refined Wings of Liberty games before everyone goes home to fuck around with the new units

I watched a bit of TSL2 over the years (didn't see it live, at first I didn't know what it was so when it said "pokerstrategy.net" I got it into my head that it was a poker tournament with StarCraft players)

I liked TSL2 because it was broodwar and a lot of great action overall, but I gotta give it to TSL3 for the plot twists. Thorzain taking out MC made me shit (I watched it on a toilet), and the finals were nothing short of amazing, with
+ Show Spoiler [do i need a spoiler? ah well who knows] +
3-3 first six games, and the seventh being decided in the last minute

And that just overshadows the TSL2 finals, the last game in that one was shit by comparison.

That would actually be very cool!
Also - if there is funding problem - maybe a Kickstarter for the most awesome SC2 tournament ever? Maybe TSL4 could beat some records

I have to share the sentiment that while TSL3 was a sick awesome tournament in it's own right; it was TSL2 that really has been the best one to date.

Just fantastic games with epic storylines (IdrA v NonY) both for seed and in Ro8, JF coming back, Mondragon coming back and tearing into the finals; and then just insanely epic games like GosI[Terran]'s unreal hold against JF on outsider.

To be honest TSL2 might be the high point of my entire starcraft viewing experience. That tournament was THAT good.

I'd love to see a SC2 vs BW poll to see what the community wants TSL4 to be.
SC is like sex. You should play often, but never too hard. And you should only try hard when it matters.

It would be sc2 no contest. It shouldn't be surprising either considering sc2 has a much bigger fanbase on tl then bw (I love both games btw but it is true). I don't see most people who play sc2/watch sc2 to vote for BW.

People who play SC2 watch the BW Korean pros, I don't see why they wouldn't want to see it in BW...

1) TSL2 is pretty much unanimously considered the best of the TSL (except by those who didn't see it = can be disregarded)
2) They'll be able to watch SC2 every day regardless if they choose to have TSL as SC2 or BW, it'll just be another tournament.

You also have to realize though that sc2 players don't watch foreign pro's. So sc2 players/viewers won't want to watch a tournament where they know absolutely nothing about the players.

If you look at viewers for bw tournaments I don't see that many a couple thousand on the streams is all I have seen whenever I glance at the viewers for a bw foreign tournament which only makes me believe more that there is no way the sc2 community would vote for bw.

I loved TSL2 as well I agree with you but if there were a vote I would be 99.9% positive sc2 would win by a landslide. If it didn't my mind would blow from shock.

I agree with blade. There's no reason for a BW TSL, something like 75-80% of the site would be kinda of alienated....

TSL was a great community event, it makes a ton more sense for TSL4 to be an SC2 event...not only is there far higher SC2 viewers/fans on the site, but there is a HUGE number of way more popular/famous/well-known players in SC2 than in BW right now (no offense to BW Foreigners still playing! :D)

As much as I'd love a BW TSL, without all the super famous and well-known community members playing in it (Nony, Idra, Mondragon, Iefniaj, so on) the TSL charm is kind of missing in BW-land. :D

If the prize pool was sufficiently big, I think quite a few sc2 foreign pro would try their hand again at it, and it could bring in some viewers.
Anyway sponsorship would be impossible to come by in my opinion, and I don't think the staff really wish it overall. And yeah, it probably wouldn't be the greatest success. That being said, I'm not sure how a SC2 TSL4 would fare either. Seems to be a really harsh competition in sc2 atm...
As for a poll, depends where you post it. On the front page, bw would probably get destroyed, in blog, it would surely lose, but not that much.

I doubt any other TSL will ever be better than TSL 2, but still...

What about a BW TSL All Stars then, as a separated event?

Featuring Nony, Ret, Idra, Jianfei, Mondragon, White_ra so many other foreigns... and hell, we could even get Boxer, Nada and July now.

Then make TSL 4 a SC2 event.

We can always dream, even though it will never become true.

About the poll, its kind obvious that SC2 fans will spam vote and win the poll with ease. TL population changed a lot from what it was 3 years ago...

I would love to watch a throw-back tournament haha. All the former BW gosus playing in a BW tournament for some fun :p That'd be entertaining. Was watching Luckyfool (who was like a C+/B- player iirc) play BW for a few days just to take a break from SC2 and he was hilarious to watch...messing up hotkeys, messing up control groups, forgetting SCVs when he was in auto-pilot due to big engagement...haha

Despite being a much bigger BW fan than SC2 fan, I loved Thorzains run much better than Nonys.

As cool as it would be for there to be another BW TSL, there is just no way it would happen. A much smaller BW tournament hosted by TL would be cool though. Or bringing back kind of the hill or any of those fun events. TSL4 seems kinda pointless... What would separate it from a million other foreign tournaments? TSL to me stands for being the lone prestigious foreign tournament.. That's how the project originally began. It would be a shame to see it just be another tournament with nothing special or particularly exciting about it. Up to TLHQ what they want it to mean from now on though, of course.

Admittedly it would not be the lone, and possibly not even the most, prestigious SC2 tournament. However, part of what made TSL unique and fun for me is the way it was played out over the course of several months, the drama leading up, the ins/outs day by day of ladder qualifying, hype leading up to matches.

Other tournaments like GSL have traces of this but nothing like what TSL does for me. I don't thing I have ever enjoyed an entire tournament (including OSL/MSL) more than I did TSL2 and to a lesser extent TSL3.

Agreed. It's one thing I really love about the TSL, is it's qualifiers. It's not mainly invite focused (although last TSL obviously had some) but there were still plenty of qualifiers. Now of days almost no tournaments do it like TSL1-3. There may be qualifiers for 1-2 spots but that's it. It's why I really want the TSL4, another qualifier only tournament, no invites, no special treatment, best of the best get in.

The way they do it is also amazing, interviews, goes for a couple months and just so exciting. Ah how I hope TSL4 does happen though (assuming they stick with mainly qualifiers and not 3/4'ths invites like most tournaments :/.)

I hope there is no problem with TSL competing with other tournaments like DH, GSL, NASL, IPL or MLG and IEM for the spectators and that there won't be a TSL4 so TL can stay on good terms with other big tournaments?

I thought TSL will be every year at the same time (like first three). Last year passed so quickly to me so I just remembered few minutes ago and wondered where is TSL because it is end of the march.. It is strange for biggest esport community site in one of the most popular game (with big money prizes and many sponsors).. but maybe something is cooking :/

TSL 4, the post-apocalyptic showdown

Featuring

An elephant, TLO's beard, a blurry-faced BW pro, and Dustin Browder himself-- playing as the 200 supply Double-Down Thor.

Who will win?

I loved TSL2+3. I mean I really loved them and these were the only 2 leagues I regularly watched every weekend. But right now I dont know if there is the need for another TSL. We have so many tournaments during the season. Almost every weekend is an event, on some there are two and I dont think it`s healthy for the scene to compete too much with eachother. And having TSL-broadcasts on saturday/sunday, when MGL, IEM, Dreamhack, ASUS ROG, Shoutcraft, Ironsquid, NASL and whatnot is going on, sounds like overkill to me. Still <3 TSL

totally disagree !!!

you need the competition to keep the fighting spirit alive, to see which events remain strong, to see which events can last and keep that torch going for the SC2 scene.

this is a VERY GOOD problem for SC2 !! any other gaming scene is jealous of sc2 for this very fact.

Based on a certain person getting a sudden red name, my wild guess is that either the team or TSL4 is getting a sponsor soon.

Hmmm... TSL3 was a decent tournament but I didn't enjoy it as much. The finals was great though, but it was great only because of the closeness. If it wasn't close, I would rate it mediocre:
- Lag issues with KR vs NA servers.
- The finals production quality could've been better.
- Only 1 game shown live.

If it wasn't a teamliquid event, I think it would've been negatively received.

The things TSL3 did well:
- Good balance of invites and qualifiers, although I would've preferred more places for qualifiers.
- Good hype.

really good point, most of the invites were invited for name value and were slumping at the time, only 2 invites out of 13 got to the quarterfinals and none got to the semifinals.
