I can kinda see both sides of this. I lost to a worker rush early on when I was learning SC2, but when it happened once I realized it must be beatable or everyone would do it. At some point you are simply without excuse. to play a strategy game you must have some sense of, you know, strategy.

One thing I don't understand is this: people complaining about Gheed blogging most likely watch Animals Do The Funniest Things or whichever shitty TV show made of people failing at basic tasks is broadcasted in your area. It's likely on national fucking TV, you know.

Man up every once in a while. Don't be such a sore loser.

Sorry bro I dont really watch much TV, most of my spare time from work goes into SC or hanging with friends/gf.
People getting humiliated on TV because they are PAID to; the bronzes being humiliated in this blog are PAYING to.

I think Gheed makes a important point... there are Bronzies, and then there are perma-Bronzies. The perma-Bronzies, for some reason, cannot get out of Bronze. I mean, it's not THAT hard to improve in SC2.

If you put in even a couple hours and learn one BO decently well, you can easily win against most Silver or lower opponents, as long as you don't get cheesed or terribly, terribly blind countered. For example, to help some of my lower-league friends practice, I go mass stalkers. They can produce the counter unit, but unless their macro is good enough, they'll still get roflstomped.

Obviously, the perma-Bronzies have no desire to put forth even the tiny amount of effort to improve. It's their fault. After venturing outside the carefully pruned TL forum, I saw a lot of trash on the internet which revealed a little bit of how dumb people can really be.

On the other hand, a Bronzie (a newb with a sincere desire to improve) would take getting worker rushed as a lesson. He'd google "how to defend worker rush" an get his solution: A move his own workers. Heck, he might even end up here and become a contributing member on TL.

The learning curve for SC2 is NOT THAT HIGH. If you suck, it's most likely because you suck and don't want to get better. That or you have some physical or mental handicap. I suppose the perma-Bronzies must exist for me to be where I'm ranked though. :D

It just baffles me that anyone can lose to a worker rush more than once (or lose when you're in silver or higher). Having trouble holding a 6-pool, yeah I can understand that, but failing to beat a worker rush on the second attempt? Just doesn't make sense.

I think the main point that can be taken away from this... research, is the main thing that is holding back a lot of bronze level players is not APM, game knowledge or stuff like that, its that there's a mindset that's holding a lot of people back form improving. They just seem to have this steadfast refusal to question the game and improve, anyone who thinks that a worker rush is OP or one race or another has a serious advantage in it has some serious learning issues.

edit: wrong thread.

anyway, I don't think his blog is a big crime. I can see why some folks are mad, but it's not that big a deal in my mind.

It was funny til the last long chat, where you came off as a normal bad internet loser trying to be funny.

I preferred the naive scientist vibe of the first 95% of the post.

Once you started getting your panties in a knot at some guy who said you're being mean, you stopped being funny. Sorry, man. Good luck with this weird masturbation session.

Concerning the OP's desire to hit the bottom of bronze....

"Turtle Terran" is NOT a good option. There are a number of terrans who prefer this strategy. I encountered some in October 2010 when I started playing and several more when I played my bronze-level brother's account a few months ago. Here is how the strategy works for non-trolls:
* Construct a 2 base impenetrable fortress. This includes siege tanks, bunkers, layered wall, and tons of missile turrets.
* Hope your opponent is bad enough to attack your defensive advantage. Zerg units fare the worst.
* Construct your choice of mass vikings, banshees, ghosts, and ravens. Feel free to mix and match.
* Hope your opponent is bad enough to only expand once or twice instead of five or six times.
* Slowly harass your opponent to death.
* Creep to additional bases.
* Hope your opponent is bad enough to sit on an army composition long enough for you to scout it and hard counter it.

As you can see, the strategy's success relies on poor macro, slow play, and making terrible mistakes. I watched my little brother lose to this (a painful hour-long game) and attribute his opponent's success to his poor level of play.

Still, knowing how to beat a turtle terran is infinitely more complicated than "a-move". One needs to actively deny expansions, take a bunch of their own, and scout incoming harassment. This is simply too much to ask from most bronze players.

With this in mind I've concluded that you need to fight fire with fire: do not play with a strategy. No plans are allowed. You have lots of good examples - expand and never build workers, never scout, build minimal static defense, build one unit producing structure and queue, never use spellcasters, never upgrade, and let your opponent scout your harassments while delaying their attacks.

You could also turtle, alt-tab, and come back 20 minutes later.

I find this blog funny, but at the same time feel sad inside for bronze leaguers. People on this site are dedicated fans, so they obviously know strategies and stuff. Bronze leaguers don't. Some are indeed idiots, but people who go buy the game for the first time with no experience because they heard its good are likely in bronze. People who casually play once a month for fun are usually in bronze. People who are very young (6-10 years old) are likely bronze. Imagine your first game/first time playing in a while, you play a guy who workers rushes you and you lose. Then it happens again. That would be incredibly discouraging and would say something about the state of the people who play the game. 20% of players are in bronze, so according to SC2 ranks total players global, there are about 700,000 players that should be in bronze.

I don't have a problem with the blog, its funny to see rage stories from bronze leaguers, bu but to see it spotlighted is a little discouraging for me. Team liquid should not be endorsing such behavior at all if they want to expand the community. If we want to expand as a professional sport, this isn't the right kind of attitude we should have. Gheed is funny, but his last blog post made me think he's doing this for the attention and lols now rather than the experiment. Telling you opponent what you should do is obviously gonna make them mad. For people who say they don't congrats for being able to keep cool but don't be so arrogant to assume just because you can, everyone can/should. It is extremely disrespectful, it any sport to tell your opponent what they should have done. At least to me, it looks like Gheed is inciting the responses, and remember he players many more games than the ones featured, and posts the fish he catches.

Especially after seeing it spotlighted. I think what anyone who finds this entertaining needs to understand is... some people really just want to play for fun. I think some people have lost sight of this fact, as well as the fact that many people have a very very very low understanding of this game compared to all of you. And for them this is simply another game to play. They don't sit online in forums, watch replays, research build orders, hotkeys, unit counters, whatever. This does not mean that they are stupid, or lazy, or slow.

So if i played a racing game against you, and when you don't move your car at the start and just sat at the line, I freak out and back up, get stuck behind something, and then rage at you, call you names and claim the game is broken. Then I quit, when all i had to do is hit one button, the gas (analogy here is a-moving once) to win...

Its NOT because i have a learning impediment, don't understand the goal of the game, or don't know the controls of the game (and, according to several examples shown by the blogger, refuse to learn/fix any of the above), its because i just want to have fun... ?
There is no such thing as perfection, only improvement.

I think the learning curve for SC2 is exponentially increase as you become better. It is easy to learn the basic at first but become harder and harder to improve when you go up the league.

And if I remember correctly, there is a pro-gamer (or semi-progamer) who has physical handicapped. Yet he still can compete to a certain level. That is something to think about...

Holy SHIT.

I read all 16 pages of this, and people need to cut this crying about the poor bronzies out.

This blog was great. The people in bronze who lose to worker rushes have only themselves to blame. If you are playing on a competetive ladder, and you don't know basic things like a-move, of COURSE people will make fun of you. I'm sick of these analogies about bullying and shit, because they do/should not relate to StarCraft2 games. If you are intelligent enough to put in your e-mail address and password and log into Battle.net, the a-move command is not beyond your ability to learn. It is their choice to not try to improve. The game has been out for quite some time now.

Yes, there is a learning curve. Yes, it sucks to be the shitty bronze player who loses to a worker rush. No, we don't need heroes to champion the people of bronze league and put a stop to the injustice of smurfing. Gheed isn't Al-Assad killing civilians here.

5/5 for the blog.

The problem isn't and never was about bronze players losing to a troll player who is smurfing in their league.

It's as if they just want to shit out something, anything, to stain the universe with their taint and prove that they were here, that reality exists and they were a part of it.

WoW is feel-good everybody-wins garbage; the only redeeming feature it has are 4 of the battlegrounds and the unlimited potential for trolling people who, by just playing the game, have admitted they are at least partially stupid.

Why is there such continued stagnation? Do they not tire of their own shittiness and desire to become better?

I worker rushed him, he ran away from his base like an idiot

It goes on, but the point is that the problem with the blog isn't that he's trolling bronze players, which he clearly is, its that he's being a giant twat about his superiority.

How is this any different than MVP trolling around in diamond and then making a post about how stupid and shitty diamond players are? Why do diamond players not improve beyond diamond, why don't they take a moment to learn what makes them bad, so they can be masters, grandmasters?

No, truthfully, the OP wants an excuse to troll, that's it. He disguises it by being curious, intrigued, fascinated, but at the end of the day, he loves it when he makes someone with less skill so angry that they accuse him of cheating. He relishes it when they just leave at his nonsense. He even messages them afterward asking, more politely and less to the point, "How could you be so stupid?"

Honestly? If he worker rushed me? I'd probably fucking leave too. Especially when he's Terran. Best case scenario? You win the worker rush with a couple probes/scvs/drones remaining and have to tech all the way up from 3 SCVs to something that flies because he's a giant douche that flies the CC to the corner of the map.
