okay so heres the story...
about 3 months ago shortly before i went to the h2o Godskitchen Fusion event, we heard that Deadmau5, the legend, the hero and a worthy role model was finally coming to my country after some years of continued begging and numerous facebook pages to get him here. You can imagine the excitement i felt the day i heard that on the radio for the first time. I was in my happy place. knowing that i could finally cross going to a Deadmau5 concert off my bucket list. i was so amped! we did not yet however have any real details as to where and when he would be performing. So until then, it was h2o baby!!!
a week later, when we rock up at the event, every square inch of possible advertising space was covered in posters saying that my Canadian role model was performing at the very venue i was standing in line at. Anyway long story short I partied like a motherfucker to the epic live performances of Gareth Emery, Dash Berlin, Aly and Fila, and all my favorite local DJs like Electric Mafia, Royal k and Dirty Pogo on 8 different Dancefloors with my best friends and sexy ladies in bikinis from 10 in the morning until about 3 the next morning. It went a little something like this....
by far the most amazing thing i have ever experience was the set Gareth Emery played. Holy fuck on toast with peanut butter...
in the relentless rain with speakers bigger than my house with lighting crashing all around us and planes flying low overhead to land at the nearby airport, lasers, fire and smoke, a severely water damaged cellphone and what was a a packet of camel in my pocket that changed into a ball of tobacco sludge. it was by far the best night of my life
now something i failed to mention was that im a compulsive party animal. When i party, i party hard and i dont stop until the music does. When i party i drink. A lot. So about R1700 (200 US dollars) later and way too many shots of tequila and caramel flavoured vodka together with cost of a ticket I was pretty broke. I had just enough cash to get through the month.
The very next day we found out tickets were on sale for deadmau5. I had a choice to make...
Eat or buy a ticket and die of starvation. It was a tough decision to make, but i chose life
besides. there were 10000 tickets available! i had plenty of time. Or so i thought. Within a week we got info on the h2o site that tickets were almost sold out. I thought it was scheme to get mre people to buy tickets by scaring them into not going. I was wrong. The next day we got word that tickets were sold out.
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was angry at myself for procrastinating. Sad that i was never going to see a legend when i had the chance, but most of all so jealous of everyone who got tickets in time.
it turns out however that they were holding out on us. One friday night on the facebook page it was announced that they were releasing another 1000 tickets on the coming monday, but that those were to be the last because they were already over the venues capacity and any more would just end up in a fuck up. I was determined! I made it my goal to go get me a ticket. Even if it was double the price. I didnt care.
Monday morning came. I knew what I had to do. i went to work like a good little soldier. The first thing I did when I got there was tell my boss that i was taking my lunch hour early so i could get to the ticket office as soon as they opened which was at 9am. He said it was cool. I was ecstatic! I knew I would finally get one! I was smiling from earhole to asshole.
okay heres where I would RANT about how big a dick my boss is, but im not going to get into that now. Ill probably just fuck up my mellow mood and want to slash his tires in the morning. Anyway, the dick face decided to go without telling anyone to fuck knows where making me the senior at work, meaning i couldnt go anywhere until he got back. The thought of losing my opportunity again was killing me.
10am came and passed. Still no sign of him anywhere. The facebook page announced only 600 tickets left. That after only an hours sales. I was getting annoyed.
11am came and he finally arrived back from buying fucking live chickens of all fucking things (black culture here prefers live chickens lol) so i checked the facebook page again. Only 200 left but the ticket outlet was only 10 minutes away. I had this shit in the bag! I forgot to account for the fact that technology fails. Offline servers at the place meant a huge ass queue. No way 200 tickets could sell out in 20 minutes right? The guy in front of me bought his two tickets and happily danced his way out of the place. How did I feel? BRILLIANT!
I request my ticket from the less than enthusiastic cashier. Get my cash ready. Cellphone out ready to upload pics. :D
then i hear "Sorry sir. There arent any left." and get greeted with this on the computer screen :
That was the ultimate disappointment after all that. i still didnt get it. I was crushed.
2 months down the line and tomorrows the big day. 11000 people and im not one of them. But there is a silver lining. A bitter sweet ending to the tale...
In between that day and now, i met this girl through one of my friends who i was supposed to go see the mau5 with who stays in Durban which is basically at the west coast of South Africa who among other things including being the most amazing little chick i have ever had the pleasure of chatting to but have never physically met other than IMs and facebook and the occasional phone call. She happens to be close friends with some of the country's best producers/ DJs and has asked me and my friend Jaime to go party with her for 10 days at the coast.
So far we are crashing at Paul Almeida's place (producer) formost of those 10 days. Getting free VIP access to all the best clubs in the area. Promises of tequila body shots on the beach at sunrise and best of all FREE VIP access to this :
which never would have been possible if i had gone to tomorrows concert because i wouldnt have had enough leave days to do it!
so all in all Im pretty upset about missing deadmau5 but at the same time so amped about this coming new years party and making new friends and making lasting memories!
thanks for reading!
