Hello, I am starting to actually grow up and well to be frank, I AM SCARED. I am filling out a job application for a clothing store and it is asking for my Objective and a Resume. I have no clue what to put and I really don't have any help with my brother or my parents.

I am also constantly scared to go take my permit test, even though I am almost 17 and I know I could pass it. I am honestly scared to drive. Can anyone offer my some advice?

Why are you scared of driving? It's not like driving is the leading cause of death for teenagers or anything like that.

But really though, you should go and pass it. And its only a clothing store, I don't really see them demanding much on your resume, just tell them you're in school and whatnot.

You just honestly need to say fuck it.

No one gets ahead in this world by being a passive, undecided person.

If you're not sure of something you need to still make a decision, if it's the wrong one, then you learn from it. It's a simple as that. You can not go through life without making tough decisions or thinking about your future, eventually everything will catch up to you. So it's better to be a man from the mother fuckin get go!

Permit test is easy. Just take a few practice tests online and/or go in with your brain intact, and you'll probably pass.

For job applications, Google's a good place to start.

Life is too short no point in being scared of the future.

Just close your eyes, say go and do it.

Do a Google search for some sample resumes to get you started.

As for taking your driver's test: Yeah, you gotta grow some balls.

Just face your fears. Look them straight in the eyes and say "THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE? I'M OVER YOU!"

*20 years later*

You're driving in a BMW heading to your corporate executive job, you look back at that silly time in your past where you were too scared to drive or apply for a job and you laugh, shake your head and head into your building where your office awaits.

P.S. You have a hot secretary.

Hey there, I know exactly what your going through. I'm 19 atm. I did almost the same exact thing what your doing right now. Thing is, you are just limiting yourself with this fear. Like think of a little kid. This kid is afraid of being in the dark, however in time he will sleep soundly in the dark without any night lights. People have their pace, however the pace is decided on when that person believes is the time to act.

What I'm saying is you need to practice your driving. You need to do what you believe is best for yourself. You aren't an adult yet, and you won't be for quite some time. Just relax, think of what you want to accomplish and then think of ways to get to it. You are the one person who decides -everything- you are capable of doing. Decide what your limits are.

If you're this scared about applying to jobs and driving then I'd hate to see you when you decide on higher education, get a job, purchase a car, sign your first lease, approach a stranger you have romantic interest in, deciding on something that will make you change locations, etc. It's scary for sure, but it's also very exciting. Glass is half empty or half full I guess...

The trick to growing up is to accept that there is a ton of shit you can't control. People you know are going to do stupid shit and you will have to deal with it. You are going to fuck up and you'll have to deal with it. That's just what life is sometimes.

As my great grandfather used to say: "people who don't make mistakes don't do anything." learning to cope with the mistakesyou will inevitably make is the most critical part of growing up, and coincidentally Starcraft is the same way- you can't learn if you don't just go try and learn. If you fail your drivers test 10 times, you've just gotten more practice. "more gg, more skill"

For a resume, I'm guessing that you don't have any prior work experience, so if you're involved with any kind of club, especially if you have a leadership role, that's a good place to start. A couple decent recommendations can't hurt either. If you have a good relationship with a teacher, or any other adult other than your family that can tell them about your work ethic, put their name and phone number down, along with how you know them. There's really not a whole lot to it, and won't really tell the employer a whole lot.

That being said, what WILL make a difference is how you conduct yourself when you turn in the application. If you haven't already, make sure you meet at least one manager, preferably the one who'll be looking at the application. Talk with him/her, do what you can to give them a good impression of you. Those are the kinds of things that will matter in the long run.

You don't have to let the fear take hold of your life. It's true that in life, there are things you can not control and it causes worry. But keep in mind that fear is there to keep you in check.

If it is about fear of failure, then just keep in mind is failure is the mother of all invention. Or in your case, the best way to learn and adapt for a similar situation/scenario like a job application. You can pretty much step back and check "What did I do wrong?" etc. And from there you can be more prepared for the next one (if ever you need to go to another one)

If it is a fear about driving, well, if you really don't want to drive, I don't see a point in you forcing yourself. But if you want to drive but are just afraid of the myriad of possible bad scenarios that could happen, then pretty much all you need is more experience/training. That should prepare you for your initial weeks/months of driving. And you will slowly gain experience and your fear will grow smaller as you are more confident in your skills.

Remember, in order to gain something, you must first learn to risk something in exchange. What you are risking is not even what I consider dangerous for you. It is merely a learning curve you must step into or start.

Good luck in life but also keep in mind that sometimes opportunities come few and far in between so sometimes, you just have to take a chance (this with regards to your job interview). It might just a stepping stone, but it's a start for your future. =)

I've been sent to the hospital after being hit by a car (on my bike) that was going 15mph; if anyone should be scared of driving at 60+ next to other tons of metal going 60+, it should be me.

Life goes on if you like it or not. If you don't get a job, life's gonna be pretty shitty. Honestly the best way to get over fear is to commit to something. That is, force yourself to send in the application. If you get a call back... well then you might as well go to the interview. It's a waste of time if you don't. If you're going to the interview, you might as well try. Etc. The hardest part is the start. If you can force yourself out the door, lock it and don't look back. Take it one step at a time and do the best you can, experience or no experience.

That's what growing balls is.

In regards to the resume,
Learn to "Sell Yourself", i'm actually in a course right now called "Career Explorations and Planning" and we talk about this idea quite a bit. For your resume, you can include basically any accomplishments or other positive things about yourself that increase your value as a potential employee. If you get good grades, say that in your resume, if you're organized, its worth writing down. If you're the leader of a club/organization/team, or can cite an example of being a good leader, write it down. If you're good with numbers, or know anything about clothes, I'd include this in a job application to a retail clothing store. Just because you dont have prior job experience, does not mean you have a blank resume. When you go in to hand in the application. Ask an employee to speak to a manager, or better yet, If you see whom you suspect to be the manager around walk straight up to them and tell them who you are, and that you're very interested in working for them and that you have filled out an application. Above all, for minimum wage, low skill jobs, they want someone whom they suspect to be reliable. Also things like being a fast learner is a plus.

Regarding your permit test,
I read the online motor vehicle handbook or whatever for like 10 minutes before I went to the DMV and took the test. Its really easy. Once you feel you understand all the material in the book just go get your fucking permit. There's no reason not to. And honestly you need to get your license before you get a job anyway, unless you have your own chauffeur or live within walking distance of your job. You mentioned your scared to drive. Well, the first step, getting your permit does not require that you are actually a competent driver. Take the first step before worrying about the second. Once you get your permit, then you can start worrying about how to drive. That said, I can tell you driving has a lot of muscle memory involved. It will be difficult at first, practice in a vacant lot first, then a seldom used back road, etc. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

What you need to do now is stop fearing the fact that you are growing up, and start growing up. It'll have to happen eventually, accept it, and you will be better suited for what lie ahead.

About the Driving: I was kind of scared at first and I delayed getting my license for a year due to laziness & a secret fear. Once I was forced to go take the driving classes and whatnot, it isn't that bad. Once you do it for like...maybe 10 hours of driving...you get completely used to it. And usually, newer drivers are way more careful, so as long as you know right of ways (common sense), you're good to go.

My parents took me to an indoor karting facility to "teach me how to drive". Eventually, I started wrecking kids and started racing karts competitively... Ironically, I didn't get my license till I turned 17.

If there's a karting place near you, try it out. It definitely teaches you some quick reflexes which are super helpful for driving.

Just relax when you drive. You'll get used to it and it won't be frightening.

About your resume bro- just shoot me a pm and I'd be happy to look over it for you. I do hiring occasionally for my job and would be glad to help a fellow tl-er. I know writing those can be really hard and is really weird your first time.

You are one in a million, ever since your father's sperm reached it's goal you've been a winner. You are the culmination of billions of years of successful evolution, the last link in a chain that stretches across an unimaginable number of lives which paved the way for your existence.

Terry Fox ran a marathon a day for 143 days, with one leg and a body full of cancer. Thich Quang Duc self-immolated in Saigong, sitting in full lotus and never making a sound or moving a muscle as he burned. Ang Rita Sherpa has climbed Mt.Everest 10 times.

I think you can apply for a job and take a driving test.
