Wait what? You've gotten more love than almost anyone in the community...
Our appreciation for what you did (translating at MLG, setting up a great fundraiser to bring MKP, keeping us in the loop by translating Korean sites/feedback) far exceeds the hate you got for your opinions.
It sounds mean but it's true, you have to grow some thicker skin and learn to deflect the shitty things or life is going to be rough.

I think it's important for everyone to read some part of this and the reactions; You'd be kind of down too if several notable community members just gave you the middle-finger. I'm not saying Milkis was right, and i'm not saying to pity him exactly, but nevertheless I understand this more after reading the linked post.
|
Hmm... I thank you for your efforts in the community, but from reading your post in reddit the backlash that you received are 100% warranted. If you didn't want to receive it, you shouldn't have posted such an elitist piece of writing in the first place.
Also I completely disagree with you - furthermore, your post is extremely narrow minded and is highly condescending and disrespectful to the other "esports competitors" who have worked hard in their respective games.

IMO just leave reddit, those guys are the haters. We love you on TL and want you to stay. Milkis Hwaiiittinggg

Sad to see you go. I've always enjoyed your translations.
Good luck in your future endeavors!!!!!!
|
You are retarded if you are worried about what the community thinks about you. You translate words, which is cool, but this is dramatic. Bye
|
Wow, this is embarrasing behaviour. He is acting like a 7 year old that's having a hard day. This is just a sad display from a grown man. Milkis has proven himself to be a biased drama queen with really bad social skills (My psychology 101 class got me thinking of aspergers). I honestly think it would be the best for everyone if he just left, because this is just unecessary drama and really awkward even for this being the internets. He used 2 months to decide on a simple job offer? I mean, come on. Just silly how weird his process of doing EVERYTHING has to be. On the plus side, at least we'll get someone professional to come translate MLGs, not someone that's not really fit to be in a spotlight position.
|
Aw man. Go lay low for a while, it will make you feel better. I do think the backlacs was... disproportionate but you need to stop giving a fuck what all the trolls and shitty people think. You made a few mistakes and you're a bit oversensitive, but damn. The people can be awful.
|
If you can't enjoy what you do no matter what is said to you, you porbably won't enjoy many things in live. Thanks for the work you've done, but drama is not something i'm fond of.
|
I also think that you are a bit overreacting. Don't let it get to you when some people want to put you down, especially not on the internet. Interpreting is really, really hard, even more so in front of an audience and not from an anonymous box where no one can see you.
I remember the time when you translated English into English during an interview. I could not understand why people would think it funny, because during interpreting training it happens all the time. As far as I know, you never had actual training in interpreting, but you still did it, despite your nervousness, thousands of people watching and some idiots who would never have the balls to do what you did.
Your interpreting is, while not perfect (and perfection for this kind of job does simply not exist), very good. You speak clearly and I never thought "what, that doesn't make any sense" when I saw you on stage. Apparently, other people think the same since otherwise you would not have been invited to so many events. More importantly though is that you have to believe it yourself. Never doubt yourself, only let it make you stronger, learn something from it.
|
If you can't take the (frankly legitimate) opinions of others into consideration without throwing a whiny shitfit then I would suggest that you should probably get off the internet.
(Although you'll be back tomorrow anyway).
|
awww come on. this is sad. can't let the flamers discourage you. It's part of the territory. however if you dont want to be in that territory, than by all means you should leave because I know I would react similarly to you if i was getting attacked personally so I can't blame you. also, you can't be surprised when you post such a potentially inflammatory article and get those kind of reactions
|
wow. i dont know what to say. you seem to have a though time in your life and that is hard no matter who you are,no matter how rich or how famous you are.
i enjoyed your work and i will miss you in the community. i hope you recover as fast as possible and move forward with your life.<3

The people on r/starcraft are just people on TL without moderation.
Tons of shitty hate threads pop up on reddit but the majority of them are downvoted into oblivion. Tons of shitty hate threads pop up here too but they're deleted by mods.

you get nothing but love for months and months, and decide to leave because you get a little bit of critisism because your opinion is not shared by everyone?
holy shit dude welcome to the real world
|
Nooooooooooooo...ooooooooooo ;(
|
Milkis I'm sorry that the trolls get to you but there's only one thing you can do. + Show Spoiler +
|
So this is the thread where everyone floods in, offers support and messages such as "We love you Milkis, don't go! You mean something to us!" All of this just because you got confronted for the "elitist" aka "everything that isn't Brood War sucks" article you wrote by Wheat? Jesus, grow up please. Honestly I like having you around because I love reading the Korean pro tweets, so after this little episode do some more of that.

Maybe but I think that the amount of posting done on TL and r/Starcraft is inversely proportional. I have no reason to support this but I hypothesize this to be the case.

I'm sad to hear this news, but the way you've phrased this blog comes across as pretty passive aggressive and attention-seeking to be honest.
Part of becoming a public figure (whether it's the general public, or just as part of a subculture such as ESPORTS) is learning to deal with haters and people talking shit about you, especially people who have no idea what they're talking about and are just trolling for the sake of trolling. If you don't think you can handle that then quitting is probably the correct decision.
I don't want to sound harsh because the contribution you've made to this community is outstanding and we (TL, MLG fans) are thankful for that, and always will be. But if this is the attitude that you're gonna take, then perhaps stepping down is the best thing for you right now. Translation is a job done best when you leave your ego behind at the door imho.
