--Interacting directly with the community isn't for everyone. Some people take years to get good at it and be at peace with all the things the community says and other people should just avoid it completely. Keep in mind that when you say something publicly and read so much feedback, you are going to get every single kind of response. You may as well not read the feedback and just imagine "what is every possible way someone could respond to this?" There's really no difference. If you are seeking a consensus response, keep in mind that consensus easily changes one day to the next. Using large scale public feedback is very very tricky. Most people don't need to. Ask advice privately from people you trust and respect. I'm sure you'd do great with just that.

--When you express opinions or explain your stance on an issue, it reads better and makes you feel better if you are very humble and not too ambitious with your claims. This is just a change in the phrasing and mood of the text and careful clipping of the scope on everything you say. Unless you are absolutely 110% sure that what you're saying is correct and you're willing to defend exactly what you said to the death (even if you wrote ambiguous things and said things you didn't mean to), then you should be as humble and as limited as possible. You should act like you are willing to change every opinion you have, or perhaps go farther than that and act like you want to change every opinion you have, even if you don't feel that way at all. You can be 99% sure that you're completely correct, but you should still act this way. You should do it because it makes it much easier to cope when it turns out you are wrong or when it turns out that everyone hates what you're saying (even if they can't prove that you're wrong and even if it's not wrong at all). And you act that way because people will respond to it better and like you more.

All sorts of very smart and successful people practice this, whether in academia or business. They have extreme and passionate sentiments hidden behind impenetrable walls of humble and limited public speech.
"Fucking up is part of it. If you can't fail, you have to always win. And I don't think you can always win." Elliott Smith ---------- Yet no sudden rage darkened his face, and his eyes were calm as they studied her. Then he smiled. 'Witness.'

So you posted your opinion (which you say you knew would be disagreed and argued) in a very public place where people could easily disagree and argue with you.

You got backlash (as expected) from just about every other eSport that you admit you were shitting on (what you did was essentially equivalent to "You're all wannabes, BUT NO OFFENSE"), and then you got all pissed off at other people's opinions on the subject matter (proliferation and growth of non-BW eSports [which you don't actually seem to know much about]) such that you deleted your accounts and made a sob story here on TL to garner sympathy.

Criticism is hard to take, but you seem to be taking it a bit far with the drama, especially since you say you were basically expecting it.

Putting your foot down and not taking shit you don't want to take from the community is a pretty boss thing to do, but then to make this kind of a thread about it and basically quit eSports forever over the small issue...

Anyways, hope to see you back, your translations were fine and your initiatives like bring over MKP were great. No need for any of this though.

Edit: And I agree with Tyler's understanding of PR.

I have no idea of what happened as I don't really follow SC2 (only watch a couple of Boxer games here and there), but I just want to thank you again for your BW Odds and Ends.

edit : someone posted that reddit link where you wrote an awesome and accurate article about BW. In my opinion it was very informative for people who are new to e-sports and have no idea of what a real esport can be. I believe those haters don't deserve your translations.

Ugh, QQ moar.

Doing what you love is freedom. Loving what you do is happiness.

My question to you is, if you let all that was said get to you so much that you decide to quit everything and pout, were you even happy doing it at all?

Opinions are opinions, everyone is entitled to have one. You voiced yours, others voiced theirs. What exactly were you expecting? Pats on the back and people wholeheartedly agreeing with you?

The responses couldn't have been more predictable. The reactions would have been the same regardless of who had made the post; only the volume would vary. Do you believe you are entitled to different treatment?

What a joke of a way to go out. Personally I loved reading the description of the BW scene: full of passion and actual facts to back it up. You never read anywhere that BW is still topping ratings in Korea with finals - all you see is jaded production/sets at OGN that look like a hangover from 2001. No one mentions what Flash earns because it wasn't a widely published thing (unlike when Moon got a $200k salary). It was a thoroughly good read that a few people attacked because of one or two lines; why in the fuck would you waste your time listening to them.

If that's enough for you to leave then it was inevitable. Regardless, you're the one who loses the most from this. The community loves your content, but they don't live it. Make your choice carefully; people would much prefer a silly mini-drama than you actually peacing for good, but in the long run it'll be just another story on TL. No one will know what they've missed: if you really want to tell people your mad, keep showing them what you can do, and then also tell them to fuck off. It's far more effective.

Final thing to say must be, MILKIS DONT QUIT, my god you can't do this, imagine all players that get hate, they don't quit playing? they stay focused on what they want to do, no matter what the others say. Love u milkis, dont quit.

He doesn't want to do this though, read the OP. It's up to him if he wants to quit but seriously, dont quit because a small minority of the sc2 community called you retarded and a bad translator.

Wait this is mainly over the fact that you posted an opinion on reddit? What would ever compel a person to do that? I can't think of a worse idea than trying to share your opinion with reddit, unless it falls into the same pattern of thought as the majority of its readers. If you post things they don't want to hear they downvote you into oblivion, even if it's true. Especially if it's true. It doesn't matter how gracefully or tactfully you broach a subject, if they don't agree you may as well not bother.

It has its uses for sure. Trying to share alternative viewpoints is not one of them.

HotBid: Why's he running, Chill?

Chill: Because we have to criticize him.

HotBid: He didn't do anything wrong.

Chill: Because he's the translator TeamLiquid deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll criticize him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Korean knight.

Milki's, just because the reddit community backlashed on your summary of eSports, doesn't mean you should quit altogether. You were posting about a topic on there that people in this community take extremely seriously. You shouldn't be surprised at all for getting hate. But if you want to run and hide when you make a controversial post on r/starcraft, go ahead. See you next week.

I'm actually pretty freaking pissed I'm reading this. There is obviously something beyond the trolls that is upsetting you because what you have is great. People LOVED that you translated and did all the hard work. People wanted your freaking autograph and you turned them down. Seriously man you only think about the negative things people say when they are the strong minority. You think the other figure heads got into the position they're in by being loved by 100% of the community? no. I've seen people shit on Day9 and DJWheat, a couple of the most loved members. Hell, people shit on White-ra and Sheth. WHITE-RA AND SHETH.

No matter who are you people won't like it or like you for some reason. Right now I can say that I do not like you because you are a completely pessimistic person and are letting the negativity take over your life. Once you open up and become more accepting of the fact that people truly appreciate what you have done and what you are doing then I hope you will come back. This community is too great of a thing to just leave.

If you are truly gone then good luck finding another community or anything that is as great as this one. I genuinely hope this is just a pissy temper tantrum and that you'll be back in a couple days. As a fan of Milkis I say good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I've never actually went in depth with Milkis story but he always seemed like a cool guy.

sorry to see him go

Not going to lie, he didn't deserve the hate but he could have been a little "stronger" about it. Some notable examples would be people like Moletrap or Incontrol who have an army of haters but they keep trucking on with as much passion as one can have

There should be a sub internet where people learn to take shit from others. So that they aren't just thrown into the Internet right away, which I must presume Milkis was since the internet will always be the internet and if you've been around it for more than a year and you are still affected by what people say then you should get yourself checked out.
