Someone has it worse? That's a shame. Unfortunately, happiness doesn't consist of the knowledge that someone else has it worse. If anything, that's a further argument against happiness.

It is work and routine and inevitable death, apparently all for no reason at all. You have to be in denial to think that there is more good in life than bad, more joy than sorrow. I'm not gonna let anyone who is choosing to suffer more prevent me from exercising my right to bitch all I want about the most insignificant shit in comparison. Yes, it is a choice. You are free to leave whenever you like. Someone has it worse? That's a shame. Unfortunately, happiness doesn't consist of the knowledge that someone else has it worse. If anything, that's a further argument against happiness. That's a pretty pessimistic view of life. My question to you though, is that if life is so bad, then why do you live? There must be some redeeming or desirable quality to it, that keeps people wanting to live, and stops everyone from just committing suicide. So whether it's shit or not, I'd say life is much desirable on the whole, when compared to non-existence. No matter how shitty it gets sometimes, there's still reason to live, and no reason not to enjoy the good parts of it. Be grateful for your shit because it's better than nothing, right?

What the op is saying is that people use the internet to advertise how shitty their lives are and broadcast to the entire world how bad life is for them. The truth is, your mother cutting off your internet because you didnt clean your room isnt a tragedy. Losing your job isnt a reason to want to commit suicide. A girl dumping you for a dude with a bigger penis and more money isnt a reason to sit around all day and mope all day. Also using the excuse that blogging about your shitty circumstances helps you deal with it is a load of bullshit. Its just a cry for attention. I read some of these blogs about people and there problems and think to myself, 'fuck, i wish i had this guys problems, life would be so easy'. Honestly, these people dont realise that getting a 5 star blog rating wont solve any of there problems, and neither will the people that read it. Worste of all is that while these people cry on the internet, the people who are homeless and hungry, who are dealing with rape and murder, the people who are in fear of losing limbs and family in war and can literally do nothing about it who actually have a reason to bitch and seek the worlds help, dont even have access to the fucking internet.

Never be angry or sad (and thus have nothing to complain about) because someone has it worse than you. Oh, and also never be happy or excited because someone has it better than you. Both are equally absurd, and documented in economic theory! See "Keeping up with the Joneses". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up_with_the_Joneses

Both are equally absurd, and documented in economic theory! See "Keeping up with the Joneses". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up_with_the_Joneses The gist of "Keeping up with the Joneses" is that people feel good if their neighbours are doing badly, much like you are recommending, even if it doesn't make sense. Just because your neighbour is doing badly doesn't mean you don't have things to worry about. Likewise, you could have a $100,000,000 investment fund but if your neighbour has a $200,000,000 investment fund then all of a sudden you feel shitty and inadequate, even though you really shouldn't. This type of thinking is, in my opinion, probably not the best way to go about things. Edit. As an aside, I thought your response to StorkHwaiting's long comment on the first page didn't actually reflect his comment properly. Or at least what you saw as exaggeration I saw as accurate analogy. It may be because your OP can be interpreted more broadly than you intended.

Because I thought that was only Korea and other countries such as Singapore (I'm not 100% sure if the army is mandatory for Singapore) Actually army is mandatory in quite a few countries, including Switzerland ![]() I don't agree with the OP on this one. Sure people have it worse, but when you're feelin' down, sometimes you just need to get it out of your system. When I get dumped I don't go "oh that's fine, some kid is dying in Somalia for no reason". I feel miserable, and I want consolation. And then I can move on with my life. I don't post it online, I'm lucky enough to have very understanding friends to talk to, but some people just don't. I'm perfectly fine with misery blogs, complaint posts, etc. I hate it though when people respond with "yeah well... live with it, my life is worse". If you have the opportunity to help a guys who's miserable, do it! If not, move on. But the OPs approach imo just makes things worse, basically saying "well no body cares about your useless life, suck it up and wait for death with the rest of us".

It makes it clearer into perspective by doing this. Yes, a lot of people have it worse but sometimes when you're living paycheck to paycheck or even just having a "bad" day, you want to relieve some tension and this is one of the human ways to do so. The guy above me hit a pretty decent point. "Suck it up," is fine and dandy. A lot of times people need to hear it because bitching and moaning can be easy to fall into a rut with. Yet, constructively critiquing things rather than just flat responses can be much more helpful to the person and maybe even yourself. That being said, yes. Everyone in the world complains too much without action.

Also, I don't understand the mechanics of getting "guilted" back into another military deployment. Could you explain that a little more?

Those of you who are still stuck on the fact that I chose what I am doing, yes, I have addressed that in previous responses, and I don't feel I need to explain it again. I did not get guilted back into a deployment, I had already decided I was going. I was guilted into moving to the opposite end of the state to help prepare our unit to deploy because we are short staffed and the rear detachment is the worst I have ever seen, in that they don't do anything to help. I chose to join the national guard, in order to pay for my college. I don't have parents who have money they can dump into a school, and I had just a high enough GPA and ACT score to get in anywhere I wanted, but the chance of a white middle class male getting a full scholarship without a 4.0, athletic ability, or some family as previous alumni was slim. I decided that if I was going to join, I was going to go all out. I joined an Airborne LRS unit (long ranged surveillance), ,my MOS being 11-b (infantry). They had just returned from a deployment and I was told by my recruiter (an asshole) that the chances of them deploying again were slim. I was in Iraq within 2 years. I am currently an assistant team leader of an 8 man Scout RSTA team. (Recon, surveillance, target acquisition) As an NCO, it is my job to make sure that all these dudes come home alive, so that's why I chose to go to Afghanistan. I don't want some dumb fuck to fall in on my job if I skimp out and get all my pizo's killed. TLDR; Read my previous posts before you repeat things that were already said, I chose to join the military, and chose to go to Afghanistan for specific reasons.

Thank you for bringing this up, and I hope that I am not out o turn in saying this. Furthermore, thank you for being so dedicated to your profession, there becomes fewer and fewer people like you everyday due to laziness, and that too scares me! - RogueMemory

I'm 20 years old and therefore grew up when communications on the Internet were beginning to boom, and I, regrettably, also spent time on the internet simply to complain. However the fact that there are people who are so self-involved that they believe that complaining about their lives is a conversation irks me just as much, if not more so than, yourself. Thank you for bringing this up, and I hope that I am not out o turn in saying this.
