I see a lot of people bitch about their lives and the terrible things they have to endure on a daily basis. I decided to give it a try. I spent my 21st birthday in Iraq, getting smoked all night (made to do vigorous physical exercise for an extended period of time) for drinking a beer that the SEAL's gave me as a gift.
I went for a period of approximately 3 months without eating a hot meal on my first deployment.
I am currently 12 credits from graduating college and have a new fiance, and now must deploy to Afghanistan for a year. I was guilted into a full time position at the Armory ( I am Nat Guard) that is located 8.5 hours from my house and my fiance.
I most likely will not be around when my grandmother dies, nor will i get to enjoy the Lion's season tickets that I bought before I knew about the deployment.
And yet...I am not disabled, I have all my limbs (currently..) I am not mentally screwed up in any way, I am in relatively good physical shape, I am intelligent, and I fully plan on succeeding in life.
Sometimes the immaturity of the internet and the selfishness of the people on it disturbs me.

You realize this is what every single man in SKorea has to do too.

I don't really understand that last line. Are you upset that other people complain about their lives even though your life is tougher?
|
I just don't understand people who bitch constantly about trivial things. I offered examples for perspective, and since I only have my life to draw experiences from, I used those.

Would've been nice to have a "hoorah!" at the end, instead of that.

Are you trying to say that people can't complain unless their lives are as "bad" or worse as yours?
|
But... didn't you choose this life for yourself ? It's your choice whether or not to enlist.
|
Well, sometimes people (like myself) get extremely angry/frusturated, and they try to calm themselves down by bitching about their day/life/whatever in a blog. Usually it doesn't work, but some people try to help you calm down (while others try to get you even more mad). Yes, you may be spoiled or whatever, but you can still complain when you are angry.
Everyone needs somewhere to vent, and for some people, spoiled or not, TL is that place.

I had to do all that and I have no arms or legs.
One upped.

So you're whining you gotta go afghanistan? You know what the army is right?

While I thank you for serving our country, I feel everyone's situation is different. Of course, there are immature kids out there complaining about how their parents are doing them injustice by taking away their precious computer or something ridiculous, but all people have different levels of troubles that can't truly be ignored. I say that because some of these supposedly immature reasons are actually causes of extreme actions such as suicide or homicide, which obviously are a big deal.
That said, I really do agree with you that kids are fucking spoiled these days. One thing that especially pisses me off is how kids talk their parents to trash. One kid I know called his mom a bitch just because she was worried that he was out too much going to parties and was worried about his safety. God forbid that the woman who gave you birth, raised you, took care of you when you were sick actually WORRIES about you, holy fucking hell I want to deck those kids...

I don't get why military people are always convinced they have it worst or close to the worst and then want to patronize others about their experiences. CFOs, air traffic controllers, EMTs and paramedics, etc all have it tough too, but for some reason its always the military heads that seem eager to tell everyone else about how tough they have it. I guess that attitude is ingrained into military people though to help them foster espirit de corps.
Sure, some people whine about trivial things, but you can't compare your "suffering" to theirs. Suffering is relative. There is no greater or worse. To Paris Hilton, wearing non-matching clothing is genuinely as excruciating as going three days without food for a starving Ethiopian boy. Is it fair? No. Does it look silly when put in perspective? Yes. But pain is subjective and relative to the person who experiences it. Simple as that.
If it bothers you then just do you and pat yourself on the back for having your head on right. Trying to tell others about it is just going to make you look judgmental.

This thread will lure a lot of bans especially for those who only read his first post but not his second post about the reason why he made the thread.

Trying to figure out how you interpreted that from my post...
Like I said, I can't draw on anyone's experiences but my own, so I used those. There was no actual bitching or whining in my post, The title is tongue-in-cheek. I just think people need to step out of their box and look at the world before they decide to bitch about losing in league of legends or their dad taking away their allowance money.

I will accept judgmental. You however, spout hyperbole and make non sequitur comparisons in the hope of seeming intelligent and worldly. Which is worse?

mod remove please, didn't mean to double post.

I'm confused if this blog is to generate discussion about people's comparative troubles and the whining/genuine complaints that ensue... or do you just want some sympathy for things going on in your life atm (perfectly valid blog post in that case as well)?

South korea isnt fighting in any wars last I checked, there just over militarized out of the fear of one [legitimate or not , the result is a consistent boot camp not live action or deployment overseas].

Everyone's situation is different, I've got a serious leg condition and haven't been able to walk properly or excise for the last year or so. Sometimes I get really depressed about it especially when it feels like its getting worse. But I'm still able to just about work as a teacher. So I've got a good income and a pretty nice easy and really enjoyable job which I know not everyone else has right now.
In the most recent episode of Top gear they had guys on from the U.K army that had had limbs blown off by mines and IED's. I was literally crying and beating myself up about how shit my life is before that programme came on and it really kind of put me in my place. These poor guys will never be able to walk again and some of them saw their best friends killed right in front of their own eyes. My leg will eventually heal and I've saved a tonne of money not doing anything for the last year or so. I should hopefully be able to live a really good life once this starts to clear up. I have to stay positive because I know my life will get better it just sucks right now.
Anyway I guess people only know what they have been through themselves and if you don't have anything to moan about but something trivial then you end up moaning about something trivial because you don’t know any better.

^This is the kind of discussion that this post was meant to generate. If this blog can get one person to go "Man, my life actually doesn't suck as much as I think it does, I might just mail a letter AND do my laundry today," then I have accomplished my goal.
