Well yeah, I guess if you just look at daigo's performance (getting knocked to #4!)

But, 4 of the top 8 were japanese and #1 was japanese too. Not too unlike the MLG results..

No he doesn't.

I use a logitech gamepad, it's pretty solid, and has both dpad and control stick depending on what you like to play.

He just started playing and is looking for recommendations.

A stick is the superior choice, why should he get anything else?

IMO, there's no point to cripple yourself this early and never have the chance at showing your skill at an arcade.

I love sf3 3rd strike, its gameplay is very solid and it is indeed a great competitive game. I often play fighting games with a friend of mine who's got pretty much every fighting game that was ever released on any consoles, and 3rd strike is definitely in our top 5.

The only complaint I have about this game is the character roster. I mean, Q, Necro, Hugo, Urien, Twelve, Oro; these guys are ugly, uninteresting, and moreover they take a spot that could have been occupied by much better characters in my opinion. Anyway I think this street fighter got the worst character selection ever, Capcom dropped the ball there. No Honda, no sagat, no zangief, no vega, no guile... anyway you know what I'm saying

You are saying that Urien, Necro, Hugo and Q are ugly and then you say that you miss Sagat, Gief and Honda.
Real good-Iooking boys LOL.

Urien is arguably one the most interesting character in SF btw.

My friend is obsessed with the Street Fighter series, and he considers 3rd Strike to be the best made, most balanced fighter of the series. Ever since I saw Daigo parry Chun li's Ult, I have been a fan of this game myself. I only play it infrequently on an emulator, and I have a problem inputting certain moves, prolly because I don't have Nkeyrollover on my keyboard.

I'm glad this game is getting some attention on TL. It's definitely a great fighter.

how can you post about 3s and not mention kuroda and his Qqqqqqqqqqqqq

seriously watching him rape all the best players with Q is the most entertaining thing ever, it's just so cool to see someone so much better than everyone else

While Japan tends to be the best in fighting games I wouldn't say they're the same as Koreans in Starcraft. The reason they were the best in games like 3rd strike and SF4 vanilla and AE versions is because they have the arcade culture in Japan, upon equal release and equal time to play the game, Americans have shown to be just as good if not better than Japan (Check Super Street Fighter 4). It would be like if Korea had PC Bangs that had the starcraft 2 6 months before the US, and there was no digital release and in America the only place you could play it would be like 3 places in los angeles, one place in Houston, one in new york city, and like 3 in northern california. You would just never have the ability to play the game as much and get the experience that the Koreans in PC Bangs have.

I would love to play 3S with you guys once Online Edition comes out. I haven't played in years so I looked forward to getting rid of the rust thats built up.

About the whole Japanese vs Non-Japanese in fighting games....I don't know if you have meant these Japanese players in person and seen their play, but if you did, you would realize just how much better they are. If you want to compare it to Starcraft, its like someone playing with 80 APM vs someone playing with 300-400 APM (Not that dramatic but you get the idea). There is a finesse to their joystick movements and techniques that just put them at a level above Non-Japanese players. This allows them to execute moves that others would have difficulty trying to pull off.

Nerves do come into play (especially at Evos when the whole audience is against you [Pro-USA]). Foreigners can definitely take games off Japanese players, but overall it is very similar to Koreans vs Non-Koreans in SC. This is my perspective for 3S only. It can very well be different for SF4 (In which I think the gap is definitely smaller than it was for 3S).
Soft spot for Zerg....

Yoooooo I actually have a 3s tournament coming up next week I need to practice for and will be on GGPO a lot. Trumpet on there as well. Unless I'm playing vs hispanicjap or munchkin, I'm just playing vs random people and will gladly quit to play a TLer, get at me!

My Ken/Yun need a lot of work, even better if you can play Urien because I'm impressively terrible in that matchup.

The last time I played vs a TL person I went in thinking "hah this guy's just some starcraft player I'm gonna dominate." It was red.venom. I got destroyed by a damn Oro. Hopefully this experience isn't so painful

I partially agree with AlBundy about the odd character choice, Q Necro Hugo Twelve Oro, definitely don't like. I think Urien is a godsend from Capcom lol, he's a pretty awesome character.

That said we have to keep in mind that 3S also introduced us some of the best characters, ibuki (although she was in pocket fighter) Makoto dudley the twins fei long etc. (some of them might have been in earlier versions, sorry if Im;' missing out).

It was a really weird character selection that 3S had but in the end I think it worked out pretty well, and led into SF4 to have some great great characters

I am down to play whenever. I'll be logging on to GGPO a lot more. If I'm no in the 3s room you can pop into the 2k2 room to see if I'm there or you can hit me up on aim. I'm "Idle" on ggpo.

Fei long is not in 3S.
He was introduced in SF2: The New Challengers but you right about Makoto and Dudley, they are my favourite with Urien :D
