Why do you even respond to them? Glhf and gg are the only things I'll say in chat when someone starts flaming. Your blog is as pointless as this post.

Me, I always say 'gl hf' and sometimes I get a really happy reply, sometimes normal, sometimes no reply, occasionally (in team games more often) negative replies

I haven't copped much BM in the past few days, save one today, just a one-sentance "*expletive* *expletive* you're so bad" or something as I did a 1 zealot/1stalker poke

However, he did gg when I won, so

wth? he didn't say don't swear at me.
gl hf gg is pretty standard no?
I say it everygame and i don't feel "superior"..
Overall he gave good advice for dealing with flamers... do you flame MUDKIPZ?
Perhaps i should not have dignified your rude post.

If this offends you, don't touch HoN or LoL. From what I have seen, the communities are bigger assholes than the kids I used to play Call of Duty or Halo with.
Don't quote me on this one.

...but it's same with older folks (meaning people around 22+)....

This made me sad
I feel so old now :/

Most of you youngsters (meaning people below ~27) just have no manners anymore, though luckily i only had 10-20 people bm me out of more than a thousand games that i played, so it doesn't seem to be too bad (Not considering lack of gg or lack of gl hf as bm)

Get over it, it's the internet. Anonymity protects almost all of us in one sense or another from the backlash we would normally receive.

that is why people who would normally get pounded in their skinny faces for acting so belligerent take pride in knowing that they can be as immature as they please, and its ok, due to internet anonymity.

yes , get over the fact that ppl are generally classless and trash, or at least throw off a trashy aura for no reason other than they are incapable of analyzing their own play, so they just mindlessly atk others'.

lol BM is nothing new, but that doesnt mean everytime you see a kid kicking as screaming in the middle of a fast food joint he doesnt deserve to be smacked into being mannered and acting right. same goes for SC bm.. its gonna keep happening, but ffs dont encourage ppl into thinking its totally normal and alright.

class/dignity/manners > throwing a tantrum bc you lost (TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!) lol (then spend that time you would be bitching watching replays and day[9] )

1v1 I am nothing but a pillar of decorum and dignified manner. If anyone is ever anything less to me I find the best response is to spam a row of hearts <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3.

In 2v2's we troll the shit out of everyone, insulting our opponents, crying imba whenever they make a unit, and gloating like mother fuckers when we win.

Dunno why.

this is something i find happening in the community way too often. (im a psychology major so excuse if im dipping too far) People take what others say WWAY too personally. If someone says

GL HF

chances are that they mean to say , Good luck as much as i would like to have, and have fun and lets not take this game too seriously. now whether either player is having fun or being serious is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that players create implications in their own minds. If you think someone means to say "i am better than you" when they say "GLHF" , maybe its a reflection of your own reality, which is what 90% of our human perceptions are. Maybe you think that if someone is comfortable saying good luck, then they are confident or perhaps better than yourself at this game, and it makes you offended and become the aggressor towards them, as you think its an idea coming from them, inside the implication, when it is actually coming from you.

long story short, players need to think less about the communication, take it quite literally, as it doesnt matter in the end anyhow. The only thing reading into what other players have to say to you does, is create static thoughts between you and what you are trying to focus on(the game not the player).

I'm personally trying to figure out how this is anything new... People have been whining about cheesy, unfair, cheap, and imbalanced in versus style multiplayer for as long as I've been playing games.

I've seen it in MUD's, I've seen it in arcades, I've seen it on every console I've ever played games on.

People don't like to lose, and people like to blame other people for their losses. This is nothing new. What's new is this: You aren't losing to your friends at home, or a stranger that's within punching distance at an arcade anymore. No losing friends, no having mom hear them swearing, no getting beat up or mocked at the arcade or roller rink.

In other words: It's the internet anonymity making something that already happened happen worse than it did before.

however in sc2 many people are afraid to come to the conclusion that they have lost though their own mistakes, in addition to that at the highest level there are people like idra (most obvious example imo) who rage about balance (maybe there is an imbalance, maybe there isnt...that isnt the point) because of people like idra raging right or not about it they convince others that their own play, which is nowhere near as refined or in general as good as idra's, is perfect and that they lose because of imbalance rather than their own skill, to which they respond very negatively towards their opponent who simply "picked the right race"

the simplest way to fix this is to somehow convince everyone that the game is balanced, at least balanced enough and that they need to analyze their games to find the real reason for their losses, that way they can accept that they are not as "pro" at the game than they think they are, leading them to be at least slightly more humble...however i doubt this will happen, at least for a long while

Lol really? Are you sure it's not just Brood War nostalgia clouding your judgement? I found there to be just as much BM in Brood War as there is in Sc2, which isn't even that much, especially compared to games like TF2, counter strike, CoD, and Halo. The vast majority of ladder players I run into in Sc2 are nice, or at least silent, and will throw a gl hf.

Brood War had it's fair share of powerful units, builds and abilities whose ability to make people rage rivaled that of the Protoss deathball and cloak banshee. Dt drops, recalls, carrier transitions, 12 nex, BBS, irradiate, hydra bust, proxy gates, cannon rush, etc seemed just as stupidly strong at times, not to mention the TvP matchup was literally impossible for Terran until you reached C rank and had the skill to execute everything that was demanded of you in the matchup.

Also, don't forget iCCup was a fairly "elite" ladder in that it attracted people who were more serious about the game. If you ever played on bnet ladders like US East, the amount of idiocy and BM there was absolutely hilarious.

As a side note, Idra's had a long history of complaining, and back in the BW days he was incredibly vocal about the TvP matchup.

Thing is, by writing this, all you do is make the angry BM'ers angrier. Best (only) way to effectively deal with people like this in my humble opinion is to completely ignore them. Anything else just validates them, no matter how well intentioned it is.

Another game's server. Talk about whether GG/GL HF is required etc.

I feel that the above link I posted is relevant to this thread as it talks about whether GL HF/GG etc. is good manners or means nothing. With the wide range of people from non-gamers(even Moms :o) to pro hard-core gamers, many of witch come from Star Craft: Brood War or WoW etc. there are many that do not think the GL HF is required. Many people that come to SCII will rage, deal with it. Many will not feel the need to say gl hf/gg etc. Many will just play silent and then leave but will GG/WP if they feel the need for it. Some are Moms and are just trying to figure out wth they are doing lol.(Jk but still )

edit: If you ever play me in SC1/2 know that I will spam <3 :<3

idra is an exception to the rule, one pro out of so many, he even admitted that he becomes overly attached to the game when he is losing which is a root cause of both his bm and his consistency of bm, most of the games i played were around the C level on iCCup though when i went to US East it was for BGH where the bm is most of the fun as BGH is genuinely imbalanced by positions :D the thing about the powerful things in bw was that they were all manageable, the ones you listed, DT drops (most T had turrets being constructed as part of their gameplan), recalls (this could backfire massively on the Protoss) 12nex would only give an advantage as a capable T player would know the abuses of this and be able to shut it down...the reason people complained about it is because they would just 2fact against it and lose, because the timing that makes a 2fact push strong would not be there...bbs if scouted could be held (assuming you were not being insanely over greedy) irradiate was needed to be strong, just imagine JD's ZvT without irradiate being around...no one would ever beat him...hydra busts are another thing that if scouted would be easy to hold, if not you lose same with proxy gates and cannon rushes....i will give you that TvP in bw was hard especially for the lower level of players who lack in the mechanical aspect of the game and would not be able to keep up in macro while pushing, and adding the vulture harass, laying mines...all that stuff, also i still play bw a bit on iCCup, nowhere near the level i was at my peak (as any race) but i rarely see BM on iCCup while in sc2 (where i play almost exclusively protoss) there is so much BM, at least 1-2 out of every 10 games has someone raging, (not a no-gg rage, but a "fuck you noob learn 2 play a real race" rage)
