I was pretty shocked to see how bad select's results have been at this MLG so far. I've been working so i've been unable to watch the games besides vs Thorzain and it seems uncharacteristic for him to go from such a dominating performance in Dallas to this. Does anyone have any inside information or speculation about what led to his results being so poor in comparison?

Well, he was in the group of death...someone has to end up doing really poorly.

I think a lot of people expected ret or Tyler to fall, but they really performed quite well this MLG.

Select i feel was never really that good. He simply had smart openers, but since i can remember has always suffered in the late game aspect, as the game turns more macro.

No? I expected Ret to beat him after he destroyed him 2-0 in nasl. Just in general it seems like select is struggling but his series vs thorzain was amazing.

He had a very tough group: Idra, Ret, MC, and Tyler. The loss to Tyler was probably disappointing, but losing to Idra, Ret and MC is understandable as they're 3 of the best players on the planet right now. On top of that Select's TvZ has always been his weakest matchup. Also, select said he couldn't practice very much in the days leading up to MLG, so he felt he was under practiced.

So yea, Select is a little out of form. Even if he was in form, his group was extremely tough.

(T)SeleCT is still smashing face in the NASL... could be a bad weekend for him. Maybe he ate some of that canned fish that Nani was supposed to bring down

He said he wished he had had an extra week to prepare. I'm sure he'll bounce back though, it's perfectly normal for people in all sports to have a bad game/tournament/whatever .

I can understand MC and Idra but Ret? He is a good player man, but I wouldn't say he is one of the top 3 on Earth.

I wouldn't call it a slump... hes losing to very formidable players, and its known that his TvZ is his weakness.

Lose a few rounds and automatically in a slump is pretty silly to think.

Dallas didnt have the great korean players, and there are a ton of new people for this mlg, such as thorzain.

That's just silly to be honest. I think his TvZ has generally been sort of weak and he had a bunch of Z in his group, but he is a monster especially in TvT. The extended series games between him and Thorzain today (day 3) were simply amazing.

I'd disagree and say he had smart openers plus he has some of the best multitasking I've ever seen on a featured terran stream here at TL.

vs Thorzain spoiler:

Getting knocked out by Thorzain isn't something to be ashamed of. Only takes a few mistakes vs the current TSL champ will cost you a game. His defense in the last game of their series was awesome, I really thought he'd take the game when he denied like 4 pushes in a row.

Ret's known to slack but when he's practicing he's absolutely one of the best players. Even Idra acknowledges Ret as being immensely talented. Just look at Ret's brood War career and his assembly win for what he can do when he's in form. Also he's like 6-1 in the NASL, which included a win over Select. Ret > Select is definitely not an upset lol.

Ret is a TvZ monster his results have been lackluster sometimes mostly from his ZvP. Ret just destroys that MU, no shame in losing to him.

group of death + 2v2 for eg cup => lack 1v1 practice time...

i think he played too much "ladder style" where you aim for a 2 bases timing while the meta game is so outdated and everyone in MLG is trying to aim for a 30 mins game.

Hmm yeah... reading fail /Facepalm

I think Nestea/Losira, MMA/Bomber and MC/Alicia represent their races quite well.
