I haven't gone on my WoW account in about 2 months. Sure I've logged on a few times if my friends ask me to, but even they quit the game so I don't have anyone to play with. I really don't see myself coming back to the game AT ALL so I want to get rid of it.
I don't know if this would be the right place to ask, but I'm wondering you guys know any sites where I could throw it onto the black market of MMORPGs. Otherwise that account is just going to sit there for nothing, I'd like to at least make a few bucks off of it =P.

Ebay is very common for that.

I think there's a site called mmobay where you can sell it off. Not entirely sure of how it works; however, my friend has recently sold his account there.
Word of warning though, it's against the TOS I believe to sell your WoW account, so if you're doing it, keep it on the down-low.

craigslist and ebay, sold my account that way
|
|
if you put it on ebay, make sure to censor the name out of any screenshot, and dont tell which server it is on. and use another contact email than the one you use for the wow account.
i dont know what it was, but my ex-gf didnt do any of those when she wanted to sell her acc on ebay and the acc got immediatedly locked down, not even 24 hours after the auction was up.

I don't think there is anyway to desync it from a battle.net account though, so if you do end up selling, you'll also be selling any starcraft/diablo/wc3 games that are attached to your bnet account.

Yeah I just realized that after I posted this blog. If I'm lucky I can just transfer my character to another account by using the same name like in the old days but I don't know if I can do that with the current B.Net.
But if my character is worth maybe $300+ with the games on it, it might be worth selling it all and rebuying a Starcraft 2 account. I'm going to look into the sites that you guys have mentioned, thanks.

If you have an SC2 account and whatever isn't all of it connected to your name address and phone number? I dunno if I'd want to give someone that account
|
I played for 5 years, killing nearly every boss in the game while it was the highest tier of content(never did old naxx or sunwell). Lich King was fun but Cataclysm was just a huge let-down for me and was very easy. Quit in January and haven't looked back. The first few weeks were harder then i thought they would be, but once you're done you're done. Congratulations on beating the habit. Also craigslist, although I'm not sure how legal selling your account is.

When I played WOW, I bought, traded, and sold my accounts on Markeedragon. Not sure if it is still up and going, but it worked really well for me.

Yeah but you can edit that out and put in a fake address. I looked through the sites mentioned and it seems like well geared PvP characters with 2200 weapons and achievements are significantly more valuable than PvE characters, plus I have multiple 85 characters so this can turn out to be really profitable lol like I'm guessing $500 for a quick sell or $800+ for its value (I could use a new comp hehe).
The only problem is that it doesn't seem like many people are buying or maybe I'm just not noticing something =P.
And its not hard to quit a game that just stops being fun =(

Congrats on quitting.
Tried it 2-3 times in the last years but always came back to it. Now i'm "clean" for >3 months with no incentive to go back. Game is deinstalled, former wow-friends are in contact through msn, icq, skype and so on. Looking back on its, its strange how one could invest that much time in something that was 2 years ago not even half the game anyone I once startet to play.
I did think of selling the account, but by now its probably not worth very much (yeah it got server 1st titles and some special mounts, but i quit in the middle of cata hc-progress) and i kind of like the rest if my battle-net-account >_>
nevertheless, thumbs up for quitting for good

characters don't sell for anywhere near what they used to, just fyi
|
good luck sir, may the force be with you

characters used to sell because of the grind involved in getting high end gear up until wrath you basically get nothing now because its fast and easy to get geared up also it does no harm sitting there doing nothing you might want to come back one day=]

I think that's mainly for the PvE side of things. PvP is still a grind and unattainable for players who can't perform in arena. But yeah the market sure does look stale... but I don't think it'd hurt to just throw my account up and see what happens.
But one disturbing thing that caught my eye was the Starcraft 2 section of MMObay =_=. They're selling a service to promote your account to diamond and masters for like $70! Really sad to see something like that when most of our members here are capable of getting into those leagues lol.

I quit towards the end of wrath, and I had a hard time finding anyone to buy my account for a reasonable price. Most websites wanted to pay me less than what I paid for the three expansions, Ebay is really aggressive about removing wow accounts, and every forum/trading site I found was full of scammers.
Your best bet is to keep the account in case you ever come back. Liquidate your inventory (none of your gear/flasks/crafting materials will be worth anything by the time you come back anyway) and try to sell your gold to a reputable vendor.

good now you can start playing brood war like me when i got bored with wow

I quit playing a long time ago but would randomly activate my account because my friend started playing when i was starting to quit, so I'd pay my 15 log on and help power level him some, but outside of that just never played much....
I played for vanilla all the way to a few weeks after cata launch(with a few months lapse here and there towards the end of TBC/WOTLK waiting for the next expansion). Supposedly the WoW subscriptions are really coming down with the majority in china. Im honestly not quite sure what about it made me not want to play much anymore, but since my raiding guild fell apart in beginning of WOTLK and I was one of the first lvl 85s on my server I just kinda ran out of people to play with and playing an MMO as a single player isn't...very fun even with the new pug services they had put in.
Infact I remember when i use to go to the forums a few months ago after cata was released and seeing all this stuff about low pop servers needing to be merged just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth....that and waiting fucking 25 minutes as a DPS to find a random pug group.

Honestly it's not even worth selling unless you have several glad titles and or rare mounts, they simply just don't sell for enough for it to be worth it, especially if you have to buy sc2 again (this is all excluding sentimental value later on in your life and also just because you may not think you'll ever play again now but who knows in the future!). I don't know where you're getting your figures from but it seems to me like you're looking at an auction listing site or something where the accounts are marked up ridiculously and won't sell (they don't pay you these prices, they pay you like 10% of these prices then relist them)
|
Be careful when you do, a lot of people do it via scams/faked credit cards just to take your gold. In fact most of the gold on the market (that people buy from) is usually from shady means. THe thing is if you get scammed you can't do anything because it's hard to prove you gave the goods and the other thing is you aren't supposed to do that anyways so it's not like you can talk to blizzard if youve been scammed.
I don't reccomend doing it unless you get actual CASH/local dealings

you dont happen to be a druid from a firetree are you?

I quit about a year ago, never looked back. Selling accounts has turned poor from what I have heard Gl bro!

Yeah I figured as much. It was an auction list with 0 bids across the board. So more realistically it should come out to $300 or less =P. I still don't see myself coming back to the game ever again though.

I wouldnt sell the account if its linked to your SC2 account since it may create problems in the future for you
|
Another thing to realize is that a flly upgraded account is already worth like 100 dollars or something 20 dolalrs original + 10 BC, + 30 wotlk + 40 dollars cataclysm

I don't know if its been mentioned but playerauctions.com is where all my friends sold their wow accounts. the management directly mediates every sale, so you're super safe.
but yeah, accounts aren't worth what they use to be. I'm keeping mine for that reason, if for some reason there's a resurgence in price.

Will never happen.
Vanilla and TBC were the golden age of account selling for tons of money because the top level epic equipment was actually...hard to get....
I went through 6 accounts before I quit WoW for good like 2 years ago because my guild cleared Ulduar like 2 days after it was out. Guild fell apart and I was done. That was the last straw for me.
My six accounts were
NE Priest never sold. Blood and sweat went into this one and I actually have an odd affection for it. Human Mage - Sold for 2400~ Human Warlock - Sold for 1700~ Orc Shaman - Sold for 800~ Undead Rogue - Sold for 3300~ Draenei Shaman - Sold for 950~
My Mage was technically my first account. I switched to priest to main right before naxx came out but the guilds I was in pretty much allowed me to fully gear out my alliance alts. My Horde characters where mainly TBC oriented and were in European time zones...it was not rare for me to go from one raid on Alliance to another raid on my Horde character right after it was done. How I didn't fail school is beyond me
The highest seller was the Rogue because of the Warglaives. The mage was full t3 and sold near the end of vanilla. The warlock was full t6/Sunwell and sold right after I killed Kiljaeden with it. The two shamans were maxed out for what you could get in Wrath but finding buyers for that was WAY harder and so their turnover was garbage.
The ease with which to get things has dropped price like a rock. My priest was worth 3 times as much in Vanilla/TBC as it was in Wrath but it had the same level of gear in comparison to game progression. There were simply more people that had the good shit.
I don't see prices ever re surging. I'd just keep accounts you have in case you ever want to come back. I've had several point of temptation to go back to my priest but have held off for the time being >.>

Man, I had a trusted guildmate make a serious offer of $2000 for my Paladin in TBC, I sometimes wish I had taken them up on it. I was the only serious, geared raiding Retribution Paladin on the server (abusing Seal of Blood and chugging mana potions like a boss in the second best guild on the server), but I figured I wouldn't get away with it since I knew so many people and it would be pretty hard to 'lay low' as a BiS Ret Paladin in mid-TBC.
Also I made so many Warriors mad standing in Shattrath with my gear that I'll bet they would have all jumped at the opportunity to report my character if they found out, lol.
But yeah WoW accounts sell for garbage right now. Everyone's quitting because Cataclysm is just WotLK all over again.

hey man i disagree, wotlk was pretty good compared to cataclysm. and it definitely was the best pvp expansion.

Great to hear! WoW was such a time sink.

when i quit i'm pretty sure i could have sold my account for a few hundred
but then i thought to myself, why am i doing this? i don't normally sell games that i quit, wow's always going to be there if i ever get bored
