Hi guys, how are you doing today? I would like to start off todays blog by saying thanks to all the kind replies and for the warm welcome i got by several of the staff at www.teamliquid.net . To all my current readers ( those who read my last blog, sencirely thanks ). I never thought i would get a audience that fast, really! Today the blog is going to be about the 1v1 bracket and harassment within it. As i mentioned earlier i am a current silver-gold player in 1v1, due to several reasons. One of them is because i'm not used to most of the aspects within 1v1, such as different types of harassments and early games against silver oponents ( I am diamond league in 2v2,3v3 and 4v4).
First of all, i got demoted due to really bad play, also because i tried other races i wasn't really experienced with (Protass & Terran). First of all the thought of being demoted didn't really occur , until i saw the badge filled with silver in it on my screen. I decided to switch back to the old Zerg race and began to play my way up in hope of accomplishing gold the same day. Now, i'm not as bad as some of the silver players, so i had around 6-7 wins in a row before i lost to some gold terrans going the ghost benchie build against roaches ( ^^ ). I don't mind playing in a league like this, with thought of that i will eventualy advance into a higher league, but my main problem is competition. I can't really seem to play macro games against theese players because they're either cheesing or doing all-in pushes at 8min mark. How am i supposed to advance into a higher league by winning 10 points each round? Anyways, i continued like this until yesterday when i decided to take a break from that specific bracket (last week-yesterday includes sleeping, schol, etc.)
I decided to play some 3v3 and 4v4 with my friends, so we made two new teams, both advancing into the mid-diamond league. We played to around midnight before we stopped, and haven't played since. I miss the old ladder where i met gold oponents with the same APM and IQ as me, no offense. What really makes me wonder is what i am doing in silver still, after winning like 29-3. Do you have any tips for me regarding getting most points out of a game, and what to do against terrans going for the benchie build? (I've tried hydralisks/roaches but i can't seem to tech fast enough ) Please leave you're opinions about the text and ure answer to my questions in the comments. Thanks for reading todays blog, and if you have any questions beside the text or tips you could either leave it in the comments or send me a text at: l8buff@hotmail.com
PS : English = Norwegian, so I am aware that it sucks.
Look at all your replays, check when the first Banshee pops out, when the second does and when they move out. Check the time for each and write them on a sticky note and stick it to your monitor. Whenever you play a Terran and it reaches the time when the first possible banshee begins throw down an evo chamber and make 2 spore crawlers 1 in either mineral line. You should have 3 / 4 queens anyway to spread creep and transfuse stuff. 4 Queens and a Spore crawler in each bases mineral line should hold off initial Banshee pressure at which point you can move into Spire and Mutas and take map control.
Either way, you should probably post a replay or two, since in silver league most of your losses will most likely come from macro mistakes or lack of scouting etcetera, but we are unable to help you if you don't give us replays.
Edit: Do not use 3v3 or 4v4 as a measuring stick, 1v1 is like playing another game.

Reply: Yeah, i know and it wasn't ment for measuring purposes, just to mention. Anyway, i will post replays on youtube or somewhat a site where it's possible, i'm not sure if I can on TL. Thanks for the laugh , enjoyed that video. However I only tend to lose against terrans in 1v1 or Zerg due to wrong counter-management and bad micro.

It'd be better to use a sc2 replay upload site so people can review the games themselves I think? I've not used any of the ones available so I can't suggest one though.

As to the 10 points per game thing, that's actually not relevant to being promoted. There are two scores that represent you in the game, one you can see and one you can't. The fist is the obvious points, say a 1000 points Silver player, but there is no points value where you suddenly get promoted. Unfortunately there is no way to get more points from a game though, it's based on comparing MMR's and points values for you and you opponent, if you won or lost and finally modified by your bonus pool. That leads to the second score which is hidden from you generally refered to as you Match Making Rating (MMR).
MMR increases or decreases based on who it was that you played against and again whether you won or lost, and this is the important value for promotion or demotion. When your MMR stabalises in a league range you get changed in to that new league. So long as you keep playing, especially with your 29-3 record, you'll be promoted in no time.

I'm a Zerg player as well and I find that banshee harass is relatively easy to stop compared to timings. If you haven't got to lair tech around the time you usually see banshees just make sure you have at least 1 evo chamber up for upgrades and 1 extra queen for creep spread. That makes it easier to defend against most banshee plays. Also, generally you would want to go baneling/mutas against a Terran player. While you have an evo chamber and extra queen up. It would also help to move a scouting overlord in around the 5/6 minute mark against a gold/sliver player, as they are usually not good enough to put a marine on patrol to prevent your scouting. '
