Hello guys!
Me and a few friends are currently stranded in New York for the next 10 days with no place to stay. The guy we were supposed to rent an apartment from never showed and we are currently staying a night at a hotel close by. Now, this hotel is located in manhattan and is quite pricey, so we will need to move tomorrow.
We have thought about staying at a place called Jazz on Leenox, or perhaps in Jazz on the Park. Their website is down at the moment so we can't see prices but lonely planet lists the hostel as a cheap option.
We will get the money for the apartment back btw, the site we booked it through sorts that stuff out.
I know that quite a lot of Teamliquid members live in New York and thought that perhaps you have some ideas on where to stay. Renting an apartment would be awesome but we are fine with staying at a hotel/hostel/motel.
There are 7 of us btw (six guys and a girl).
Hope to hear from you all, any help is appreciated! We are as I was saying staying here for 10 more days so you have time to think of something

have you looked into couch surfing.com? I'm sure that network would have a lot of people willing to help/give good advice.

Maybe you can find help here: In the FAQ it says:
Q: What about WSA and social issues?
A: WSA is about much more than organizing around workplace issues. Tenant rent strikes or fights against bus fare increases are also part of the class struggle. Our members are active in such areas as housing struggles, the struggles for abortion rights, for gay and lesbian liberation and more. We fight for complete equality for women and oppose all forms of racism. We believe in a “social” revolution as well as a class one. We organize anywhere working class people are, and around issues important to the society we want to create.
The place: 339 Lafayette St — Room 202 New York, NY 10012

Hey, welcome to NYC!!! Hope you enjoy your time here despite your troubles so far!
I'm not familiar with cheap locations in NYC to stay temporary since everything in NYC is expensive and only way it seems cheaper is if you know someone who lives in NYC and crashes at his/her place. But good luck!! ^_^'''
Also, on an unrelated yet sorta related note, there is a NYC BW LAN event today in Flushing, Queens and a week after, there's a NYC SC2 LAN event!!! I'll only be for BW LAN event but if you have time and feel really bored that you need some Starcraft in your life (plus nerd talk with other TLers), stop by and meet the NYC TLers!! :D

YMCA was the cheapest place in Manhattan, period. I think it was like $39 a night and absolutely not a bad stay, although from what I remember it was 4 to a room. Regardless, check it out.

Thanks for all the swift replies guys, things does seem to be clearing up though. We contacted the webbsite through which we hired the apartment and they say that they will compensate us, so we'll just hotwire some money from our parents and we'll be fine.
Will see about the lan, would be awesome but doubt my friends are up to it. If nothing special happens I'll come!

Yep, sitting in my apartment on west 39th atm, looking really good. We'll see about the lan, but would be awesome. Thanks to everyone who replied!

Never been to NYC myself, but I've heard that a lot of people visiting find cheap places nearby in NJ to sleep and commute to NYC for the rest of the day.
