Why is it that every day, seemingly, there is a post somewhere on TL bemoaning the promotion/demotion/matchmaking system in SC2?
Usually, its by someone trying to be promoted, who can't understand in their little head why they aren't being promoted to Platinum, or something, despite being at "number one gold in my division for aaages!"
Someone inevitably takes the time to explain what is happening to these people, and then they respond with "well thats stupid i'm pretty sure something is buggy with it in my case".
Listen, guys, there is a ridiculous amount of good info about the matchmaking system that SC2 uses around, Excalibur_Z has devoted his LIFE, eschewing food, sex, and sleep to analyze the matchmaking system endlessly, coming up with several great threads that are regularly updated to be correct!

It is not remotely complex to understand how the Blizzard matchmaking system works, and even if you don't care to understand how it works, all you need to know is one thing.
It WORKS.
It might take about 50-100 games, but you WILL be put in the league that you belong in. If you're in Gold and can't be promoted in 300 games thats because you are not of a sufficient skill level yet to be promoted, and thats just inarguable fact. The matchmaking system is the best that any game has had yet, and works brilliantly. "Find Match" is basically a button that says "find me an evenly matched game!" and it does that 90% of the time.
End rant.

Blizzard's matchmaking is awesome! They should form an online dating site!

I wonder how many bad dates you would have to go on before you found a perfect match

And when a girl tells you that ur totally not in her league, you can be like Nuh Uh! I'm Master's League too bitch! It says in my profile!

Don't worry op! I understand it! 5/5 to balance the person who gave you 1/5.

Slap!
Kidding. The issue at hand would be that for every succesful date you would be matched with a bad one. Can you imagine the influx of girl blogs!
Desperate Liquipdean : "Oh TL I went on this blizzard date and she knocked me back. I been top of my division for so long, when oh when will I get to date the hot mammas!"
Mod response: "Read the forum rules noob. Replay or it didn't happen - BANNED"

So how does the system work exactly? Couldn't you put a tldr?
jk hahaha
Good post ^ The amount of those posts is becoming annoying

Yeah, this is pretty much the one thing Bnet 2.0 does right compared to 1.0. Excellent system, I almost never have games where I win or lose easily unless I take a break from playing.
|
Agreed with op, amazing system. My only concern, as always, is not being able to off race without getting destroyed. I wouldn't change the match-matching, but I really wish they had separate MMRs for separate races..
|
Aww I kinda miss the days when this would for sure have been a girl blog, preferably from someone based in the orient/Afirca/place where match-making still happens. Then it'd turn out to be a TDOT troll blog or whatever.
Nah, but we may be annoyed and all but really the Blizzard Matchmaking and BNet 2.0 in general have really been impressive in their guarantee of quality games at your level, as long as you're not stuck in a awful league when you shouldn't be

Damn good idea. There should be a separate one for each race you use including random.

While matchmaking make work, rating/ranking is completely broken(unless they changed it since the articles I read were written, which I doubt).
And does matchmaking work for random players with varying strength with the different races?
What a pity that blizzard doesn't publish the game results so somebody can code a good ranking system instead of the crap they created.

If you mean maintaining different hidden ranking for each 3 races and picking your oponent accordingly, then no. I randomed for a while when I was already in diamond, I just got stomped whenever I got Z/P and eventually started winning all my T games as my ranking fell.

People put too much emphasis on matchmaking. They consider it to be an objective way of measuring their skill at starcraft 2 in general. Ladder is quite a narrow way of looking at your ability and it's definitely possible to game it. Who understands the game more? The masters Protoss who knows how to 4gate and proxy 2gate or the gold player who is starting to play around with 3gate sentry expo builds in pvz and 2gate-robo-expo in pvt?
|
Because Blizzard made the ranking system confusing as hell, you can't even see your true rating.
If it wasn't "remotely complex" there wouldn't have to be a "ridiculous amount of good info" to understand it. That is why there are so many misunderstandings, people shouldn't have to wade through all that just to understand what their rank/league means.
|
It's not complex it's just deceptive. The trick is that your rank/league don't mean anything.
