I know this is crap compared to the TL'ers with phds and shit but god damn, at almost 15 years of age i feel pretty good about getting a job and not sitting on my ass like the other kids my age.

So I heard about people getting fired for no reason, what are some ways that I can make sure I wont be this guy?

Don't do anything stupid?
If it's really "no reason" then they're bad employers and you can't do anything about it.

Just work hard obviously. Also don't put food in your nose and put it back into the food while posting a youtube video about it.

Just do more than what is expected out of you and there is no reason you should get fired. Demand more out of yourself than anybody could possibly expect out of you.

Hopefully you can use the money you earn to actually learn how to set up multiple sources of income (That don't require your physical presence) and you can become financially independent. Having a job is actually the worst way to make money. The wealthiest people in the world typically don't use a job as their primary source of income (There are people with normal jobs who are actually millionaires). Rather, they get their enjoyment out of their job/work.

You should feel proud. I have really great memories of working at McDonalds and everyone said something positive about it being on my resume until I was 22 (when I took it off). It was really a lot of fun working there.

Grats on the job! I got my first job at 15 too (lied and said I was 16) It's really something to feel good about and proud of. I think it instills a decent work ethic and money is just more valuable when you appreciate the effort that went into earning it.

People don't get fired for no reason. If you do the standard things like pitching on time, not calling in sick everytime something better comes up socially, work reasonably hard without being a wise ass etc you will do great.

Are Wendy's workers unionized? Probably not, but when I worked in the Deli at Safeway a couple years ago when I was 16, I was part of the meat and deli workers union, so we couldn't be arbitrarily fired without valid reason. That would protect you :p

Best way to not get fired is to have a good attitude. Employers often fire people for little things because the individual can't take criticism well, not because of the little things they did.

Hey I did my first job last year too, it was baskin robins and I was also 15.
I got 3 warnings before I got fired.

1, eating the icecream and feeding it to each other, straight off the scoop (OHS breach)
2, Wearing my pants half mast just to see if people would look down and see my underwear (indecent exposure)
3, repeating number 1 many times over.

Got fired in the 1st month during my probation.

I worked at hardees and had a pretty wretched time of it, though I wasn't really used to acting professional on the job. Still, they were more corporate-blue-binder-bible than any other job I've had. I walked out after a couple months and never looked back. Despite the circumstances of my leaving, I somehow still left a positive impression with my managers so I mentioned it when getting my next job at a pizza place.

My musing concluded I will address practical issues: I don't think it matters whether you get fired for no reason or not. The income is big money for a kid and you will be getting some experience. If you don't work in the kitchen, figure out who can make food for you on the sly. If you do work in the kitchen, learn how to cook for yourself on the sly and then start making things way cooler than what's on the menu. Cleaning sucks and you will have to do it constantly if you aren't bombarded with orders, but being diligent and keeping up appearances will make your bosses like you and that makes everything smoother. You're going to be eating a shit ton of burgers until you quit. glhf.

Dude if you need advice on how to not get fired at Wendy's then you're in trouble. Don't kill anyone and you'll be fine.

Nothing wrong with working fast food. I worked at a pizza place out in Arizona while I was there and I've worked at Outback Steakhouse for several years as well.
So wait? I'm bad? =(

It is good be be working at a young age. You gain a lot of freedom from even a small income. Just don't overwork yourself and kill your life/grades.

Wendy's occupies a special place in my heart. Specifically the coronary artery. Seriously I think its clogged...

Same. Got my first job there at 15 and became a manager in 6 months and hired a lot of my friends. Such a fun job overall.

My first job was at Wendy's, too! After you learn how to do everything, it can actually be a rewarding job. I've had customers call me to the front to thank me for making their burgers just right.

Be prepared for the jerks, though. We had a war veteran with an eye patch who came in every single day and ordered a sweet tea. If the tea wasn't perfect, he'd go ape-shit. Also, on my first day of making sandwiches, I got an order wrong, and the guy called me to the front and repeated the order. Then he said "There, now is that so hard?" People look down on jobs like that, but that's only because they're pompous pricks.

So enjoy your time there! And every time you close (which can suck pretty royally) just remind yourself that you have a nice, comfy bed at home and you're making cold, hard cash. You smell like mustard, but.... CASH!!

Basically I'm in early college high school in Farmers Branch, TX. In 8th grade a bunch of schools came by and listed all their features and stuff. I got put in Early College HS because some of my teachers said I had potential.
I passed all my accuplacers besides math because maths a bitch and have 6 college classes a week, and will hopefully have an associates degree by the time I'm 18

Ah this makes alot more sense. Someone actually being in college at 14 is pretty crazy stuff, that's skipping what, four or five grades?

Congrats on the job by the way. While I never found working fast food to be particularly enjoyable it wasn't terrible either. It's work, but that's to be expected. As long as you keep up with cleaning and make sure you aren't careless you won't have any issues with being fired. That and take criticism well and be social. I really think that gets underestimated but if you work to be a personable person that gets along with everyone, managers included, you won't get fired. If you just kinda hang around in the background your much more likely to get fired for something.

getting my first (and current) job as a sort of general worker at a small swim club was the best feeling ever. Its a combination of self-worth(in a good way) and success. Congrats to you and have fun working there. Also, make sure to get my order right >< wendys people keep messing up my orders.

Really Chill?

I worked at a McDonalds in Toronto when I was 17 or so... and it was the biggest piece of shit job I've ever had.

I guess you got lucky with being at a good location.

i had my first job working at a deli, and it supposedly had the highest turnover rate in the entire supermarket

I actually had a lot of fun, and the manager really liked me and put me in charge after three weeks, and I didn't even do anything exceptional/extra.

Basically, just do what is asked, and be friendly with everybody (there will undoubtedly be an eclectic group of kids with various backgrounds); time will fly by and you'll have a blast.

cheers

Steak fries <3

My thoughts exactly, I can barely get through a small its just way way too much salt. Its disgusting.

Any way congrats on the job, food industry can be tough, though I never worked at a fast food place, so just don't get discouraged by hard work and you'll be fine.

Just be nice, smile, etc. It will make you happier and will make everyone around you happier, customers and employees alike.

I definitely am happy that I worked a lot during high school. It is really a good experience. It made me a lot more responsible, made me feel a lot better about myself, and getting money is naturally a plus. I always kind of looked down on kids that were still getting an allowance or asking their parents for spending money when they were in their junior or senior year of high school.

Hmm I worked in Whitby at the Brock & 401 location. It was all young people and the managers were fun.

Yeah. I'm only now realizing how bad it looks that my teenage work experience is practically nonexistent, because I was ingloriously fired from every menial job I had (for not giving a shit with the same determination with which I should have been working), and that I would really be better off with a year or more's worth of experience at any position. I have a lot of funny stories of my total incompetence at grocery stores, but those don't play well in job interviews.

You know you can ask for half salt right? And then you're GUARANTEED to get fresh hot fries...

Congratulations on the job! Advice show up early, and as tempting as it will become to miss work, don't.

My first job was at McDonalds when I was 14. I felt like I was flooded with cash making 5.25 an hour. Bought so much shit and still saved a good amount.

Cashiering was terrible, but aside from that it was a pretty good job.
