Oh and the money part was mostly a joke to start with. Like I said, I dont really think he will give me any money, but if I actually stop smoking because of the "joke" I'd be more than happy to not get anything anyway.

Just "force" him to throw a party with you
Him being involved with some of the "promised" money and you involved with the money saved from smoking
Invite some friends (and "that" girl) and have fun! (without smoking!)

I quit cold turkey aswell. Had quite a few relapses tho and I think its something the average quitter will have before managing to quit permanently. When I started to quit I failed like every other day to begin with, then every other week and then every other month. I havnt smoked for a couple of months now but I sitll get urges to smoke. What Ive noticed tho is how much easier it gets as time pass. I still get the urge to smoke sometimes but it has become easier to fight it off.

Try as hard as you can, you will get there! Even if you have a relapse make sure to not resume smoking. Just start overt from there. Remember that if you smoke you will throw a lot of your previous efforts down the drain.

Judging from what Ive read on TL etc it would seem like its a cake walk to quit smoking for some people. I can only speak from my experiance and I have no idea what your experiance will be like but to kick this habit was a bitch. The hardest thing Ive ever done no doubt. I couldnt focus on anything or sit still for 3-4 days after quitting the first time. What helped me get through it was rigirous excercise. Particularily jogging. Really, who would like a stinky cigarette after 45 mins of running? It also felt as it helped my lungs in recovery. Another great part about it was that I was totally exhausted by evening so I could fall asleep without smoking.

Quitting tobacco is the toughest and BEST thing Ive done.

My try if youre interested: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=114083

Good luck man, congrats on deciding not to ruin the autumn of your years. It's gonna be difficult though, stay strong.

I transitioned to electronic cigarettes. I did at least a weeks worth of research to find one that wasn't a piece of shit but I'm really happy i went through with it. I've been using it for about 3 months and have probably only smoked about 2 cigarettes since (drunk) ^_^. You should look into them if you still want a nicotine fix but without the carcinogens. Plus there is just about any flavor you can imagine.

I smoked for 3 years before quitting and will never go back! my two cents:

1) After you havent smoked for 2-3 weeks and your sense of smell really comes back smell the hand of somebody who just smoked and realize "Hey, this is how I used to smell I just couldnt tell because ciggs ruined my nose"
2) Accidents happen! I "quit" 2 years ago and have probably smoked 5-10 times since then. For me it is always when I'm drunk, they just sound good and my decision making is already poor. If it comes down to it BUM A SMOKE! Cold turkey is a myth- just don't get caught up buying a pack. If you bum a cig there isn't a pack to tempt you the next morning during coffee, when you just got home from work, etc.

As several people in this thread have already stated, STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL! Seriously, just being a little bit tipsy will make you want to smoke soooo badly. Trust me, that stuff will make you pull cigarette stubs from the gutter and smoke them. I quit smoking for over a year and got drunk after an exam. Now I'm at it again. So stupid...

Hmm... I've just started smoking casually to help deal with stress and to "level me out" for about a month or so. I try to be conscious not to do it too much so I usually smoke around a cigarette every day, sometimes every two days and when I go out i'll smoke a few as well. I don't want it to develop into a problem though so how much is too much would you say? I know i'll get some replies like "1 cigarette is too much!" but be realistic here, the cigarettes really help me out a lot but I don't want to cross "that line" where it develops into an addiction.

there is no line, but in general... "too late, bro". Picture yourself at 40 with a wife and kids, do you smoke ciggs? I smoked for 3 years and by the time i quit i smoked 20-25 (a little more than 1 pack) a day and don't regret quitting at all. After quitting taking deep breaths of fresh air (no kids, not hyperventilating) is enough to calm me down, just because i am so glad i can breathe again~! Ask old people that smoke if they wish they could quit... i know you already know the answer

As someone who smoked for 5-6 years, and got up to a pack a day at one point. May I suggest these new electric cigarettes.

I Use greensmoke, but wouldn't necessarily suggest them.(I do warn about the really cheap electric cigarettes though, as some of my friends have tried these after my success, and the ones you find in the gas station for 20$ are just horrible) They are just enough to "get you over the hump" I bought like a 200$ "starter pack" and haven't touched cigarettes since. I just carry around this little battery and a cigarette cartridge and I'm fine. After about 6 months of no smoking, I've gotten to the point where I don't even like the fake electric cigarettes anymore. I do still carry it with me If I'm going out to the bars with friends who I know will be smoking etc etc.

I went from half-pack a day everyday guy, to 0 cigarettes almost overnight I consider the 200$ investment I made in electric cigarettes a new lease on life. "the patch" or "nicotine gum" or other gimmick's like that I dont recommend, for me personally, it was the 5 minutes of time every hour or 2 where I would usually be stepping outside and smoking a cigarette was the hardest habit to kick. But being able to step outside with friend and still "smoke" my electric cigarette really helped a lot.

It's worth it

i smoked 2 packs a day for 4 years. one day i was like "fuck this" and never smoked again. its really not that hard if you have will power, i don't want to be a pretentious dick or anything but its really that simplistic, if you actually want to quit, you will. people who have difficulty quitting most likely only quit because of societal/personal pressures. "lol my girlfriend wants me to quit" or "im the only person at work who smokes and i feel like a dirty pos" you can only quit if you truly want too, personally without pressure. i actually wanted to quit because i found myself out of breath when i started working out. it was was as easy as looking at how much a month i was spending and how much i was hurting myself.

I think youre being a bit to simplistic even tho you say you dont want to. From what I read people obviously have different experiances from quitting. I had iron determination and thats what got me to quit in the end but the temptation to smoke was ENORMUS for me. The first times I quit I had this terrible bloat and my stomach was acting strange gernally so to say its just psycological is not true. Ive also read about a ton of different stuff that can happen to you while you quit. It obviously has big impacts on the body.

At the time of quitting I had a smoking roommate wich might have made it a lot harder than necissary but anyway - what Im trying to say is dont make it sound like its easy to quit for anybody. (not saying it doesnt come down to willpower at some point tho..)

Its not even hard to do, you just have to isolate yourself from people that smoke alot.. Like seriously its NOT hard, the main reason people continue to smoke is from external forces enabling them. Think about when you get sick, you don't even think about smoking and it's not a big deal!!

So what you're saying is not only will you save money by not having to by packs of cigarettes anymore, but you also stand to make money off of the endeavor...?

You have an order of 25 dick-kickings waiting for you if you fail.
