So second not failblog in a row

Last year I wanted a monitor to replace my 14" pink flickering CRT. They got me a 160 dollar 19" 1440*900 screen... that rotates. Now, I never wanted a rotating feature, never use it, and never wanted it, but they thought I would.

But now my parents want a new monitor to replace their CRT and my mom wants it to rotate. And a rotating monitor is really expensive. So they want a monitor that is ~= to mine. So they said I could give it to them and they'd get me a new monitor. I'm super surprised they are this nice about it, but I'm not complaining.

I'll have to pay for anything over 140 for a monitor.

Any suggestions (I live in the USA for online retailer purposes)

My mouse is (literally) a general electric mouse from when I was in the fifth grade. Oh. Six years ago lol. It's optical, looks fairly fail, it used to have a huge GE logo but my palm wore it off lol. It has the browser back and forward buttons and scroll wheel click. I mean, not a half bad mouse for $9 at big lots. But it is probably a tenth an ounce and the buttons are starting to die... I don't want to spend that much, any suggestions? (Right handed mouse, even though I'm left handed. I learned how to use a mouse with my right hand)

and the illustrious keyboard

My keyboard is 11 years 3 days old. That's right. Not a typo. 11 years, 3 days. It's actually a decentish keyboard. it makes a fairly loud clicking, but my no means is mechanical, jsut a fairly well made compaq (lol) keyboard. I like that it has the media buttons on it, but it's not that big a deal. Also the way it's set up the F keys are way far above the number keys, and my hands are really small to actually reach them. Also is sort of gunked up after 11 years of usage. Permanenty discolored lol. Any ideas for a cheapish keyboard to replace this? It's sort of failing in the rstlne keys, as well as enter key. I mean not bad, but sort of squishy. Any cheap ideas?

(KEYBOARD IS OPTIONAL, I"LL NEED TO TRY SOME OUT BEFORE I BUY, SO FAR I HAVEN"T BEEN IMPRESSED)

In other news it just occurred to me I actually haven't finished the campaign at all. So I'll be doing it on brutal at about a mission every couple days after finals.

Tons of options. As you're starting from nothing, your possibilities are limitless. No matter how many people say get this over that, or what not, remember that you have no reference in which to base your experiences. They may say this gaming mouse is better than that, but how would you know. You've never used either. At this point, any upgrade will be a significant upgrade. Get whatever you want at whatever price you're comfortable with.

If you're looking at $30 for a mouse, and another $30 for a keyboard, you won't find a mechanical keyboard. Get a solid mouse and keyboard, rather than a really good keyboard and a terrible mouse. There are a lot of options at $30.

Monitors are largely preference. Size is really all that matters, and dead pixels. You won't be able to tell the difference even if you got a ridiculously good monitor. Get one that works, and doesn't look terrible. I'm not a monitor freak like some, so I can't recommend anything.

Again, get anything you want. Never aim for your dream rig at the get go. You have no idea what it truly is until you try a bunch of things out.

General items? Stick with any name brand. They're name brands for a reason; they make solid things.

Need a price range though.

Yeah. I'm just trying to figure out what to look for. At all my local retailers there aren't any non gaming wired mice tt

In terms of keyboards they all feel so cheap, even in comparison to my 11 year old stock keyboard.

Just looking for generalities

Most of my friends use the standard Dell keyboard / mouse, and I really like it (I currently use a $5 gearhead keyboard and a decent Lenovo mouse that my dad somehow got). I wouldn't recommend any of the "gaming" mice, as they're seriously overpriced - just search up amazon or newegg or something, see what you can find. If you're on budget, don't get your hopes up for a mechanical keyboard (it isn't really worth it unless you dedicate your life to gaming IMO).

As for monitors, you can probably find a decent sale to get a 20" for 100 dollars or so.

^ Would agree with the statement on gaming mice lol.

And don't want to mess with mechanical keybaord, but something not so old and failing.

I would say 30 and under for mouse.

In terms of keyboard if I find something I like I'd pay 40, but quite honestly even the epxensive keyboards I've tried f eel real cheap :/

Erm, no idea what you're saying.

We need a price range.

For a mouse, I would recommend the MX Revolution. But that's over $100. Or I could recommend the G500, the DeathAdder, the Ikari, or 50 other mice.

And you'd be best served in their respective threads, or with a simple search.

Lol. I edited right before you posted.

I've looked in respective threads, but what it has come down to is I'm not willing to spend enough to be within scope of thread lol

@Blisse, sorry for not having a price range. I added it. It's 30 and under for mouse, 40 and under for keyboard, although mostly I just want suggestions to try, because so far I prefer my keyboard to others i've tried.

The keyboard isn't a necessary replacement, they take a while to get used to as well. If you are dead set, I would recommend just picking something cheap and simple up at the local electronics store. For mouse, I would recommend buying something you think you will like. Don't go too expensive, because really the secret to good peripherals is just getting something you like. DPI doesn't really matter, unless you are running massive resolution, all that other shit isn't really important- you will adapt to your mouse whatever it's flaws. So you want something cheap, that you can fall in love with and that buy again once it breaks.

I guess for me, I have a Microsoft flat keyboard and a Centrios X7 mouse. Total cost for both is probably around $70. I love my mouse because of its size, and it's light. Keyboard, don't really care about to much, I have big hands and I like flat keys, so it works well for me. Keyboard I bought when I moved, and my mouse I've had for about 4 years now.

edit: Also, for monitors, I'm not an expert or anything but I would go for standard brands, like Samsung, and not something kinda shady, like Asus. I think you'd be best off waiting for a sale of some sort (Christmas just passed xD), but otherwise I think most monitors at each price point are pretty much the same. Just the basic stuff like fast refresh rate, high resolution, ect. Also, if your computer isn't that good, don't go for a large monitor or else you'll just end up having to run a low resolution on it anyways. Personally, I wouldn't go past 21". Again, there is probably someone a lot more qualified than me to make a point about monitors.

Hi. Razer Salmosa $30 but often there are deals on woot.com or newegg.com or whatever and you can get it for $13.37 or $20. I got mine for $20 and I love it. You may want to know what your mouse grip is though, Salmosa is best for fingertip grip (you hold your mouse with fingertips only)

Gaming keyboards are unnecessary imo, just get a comfortable, cheap and durable keyboard. I have a Costco HP keyboard that's fairly common but it's pretty sleek and good looking, durable, and most importantly quite good for SC2. Cheap. It also isn't very loud

That's my keyboard, yes it's PS2 cord but it's a really sick keyboard and I think there are USB versions.

Yeah. I love my keyboard, even though it's 11 years old. Unfortunately it's dieing

In terms of the salmosa I'll check for sales. I use claw grip BUT my hands are tinytinytiny. WIll miss browser buttons though.

Mice - Logitech MX518, Raxer Deathadder or Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1/3.0.

I'd never buy any other mice except these 3.

Aww

Thought it was the same calculus book that I used last year.

Anyways, with mouse + small hand, if you're really restrained on budget, get a regular optical mouse. The gaming mouses are overpriced, and some people don't even notice the difference between the two.

Logitech generic mouses are cheap, durable, and does its job correctly.

imo get a $10 standard keyboard that you like the layout/feel of, and spend $30-$40 on a decent, affordable gaming mouse (I like my razer krait, it's minimal but quite good for me.) You can get a 19" 1680x1050 resolution for ~$120 I think (try subscribing to newegg's email catalog) or a 21" for a bit more.

I'll see if I can go to a local retailer with these mice to at least judge up size before ordering.. Any suggestions?
