I was browsing TeamLiquid today, and I noticed the following curious advertisement at the top of the page.

This is an advertisement for large bras. Now, it is my understanding that TeamLiquid membership is overwhelmingly male. Assuming this ad is here for a reason, is there something that men can do with bras that I am unaware of? Perhaps large ones in particular?
Or maybe it is aimed at a small female population who have something in common. Ladies of TeamLiquid, do you generally find yourselves in need of a voluminous brassiere?

Awesome, I just needed a new one. How did they know? :/

google uses ninja ways to display ads related to the viewers interests, so it appears you have a interest for big girl bras?
|
TeamLiquid.net really needs to find a better way to monetize their website.
They get TONS of traffic, but I doubt they make any real money with those terrible ads. You gotta have a product/service that fits the interests of your viewers.

TL has ads? Adblock PLus FTW.
|
Maybe you were masturbating at the sears catalog often, google picked up on this and tried to sell you some products :D.

we do this through tsl partnerships and other such things - for example, the pokerstrategy tsl3 is great, as a lot of poker players used to play SC, and a lot of SC players find poker interesting.

Then why the hell did you post?

Because this allows me to express myself while making it clear that I'm not a bigot.

I'm not positive, but I think google ads caters your ads based on your recent google searches SO...

Yeah it's targeted advertising and probably has something to do with your search history.
I don't see ads so I don't have any other guesses.

Thanks for the replies. So apparently google has decided that I am interested in large bras based on searches that I have done using google. That is pretty cool how it tries to advertise to me personally instead of the teamliquid demographic. That said, it failed to put up a product that I am interested in purchasing. Maybe next time.

Thats an awful idea! That would never work! Maybe If they included posters we could have a pretty good store, quick someone get on this!

I thought the ads were displayed depending on the content of the page... :\ Cause I remember being on the review page for the Vietnam expansion for BFBC2 and it had text ads about 'hot Vietnamese females'. :|

Even if it knew my exact bra size, I still wouldn't click it. Tho I might be creeped out if it was EXACTLY right.... but hey, yay for them funding TL even if they are completely moronic in their audience targetting =D

Yup it does! Actually, I think google bases it's ads more on what is currently on that page. It takes some key words like "smaller" or "sports" (like in "sports bras"?) and present you with an one time offer you can't refuse!

I would've clicked it... that's really smart advertising IMO
|
Hahaha I wonder if the majority of TL has low testosterone levels
|
OMG, FREE SHIPPING!!!
I need to purchase as much as possible, right away
|
its what is found on the page. i think the ad came up cause of the word "smaller" in the title.
|
ill be a lot prettier in 3-5 business days
|
the advertising on teamliquid is so unobtrusive, that i make a conscious effort to click them every once in a while to support. i figure its better than writing a post sometimes? haha
|
|
part of google ads is based on what the user has been searching and website he has been going to-. i see groupon ads because i visit the groupon webpage. soooooooo.....have YOU been looking at bras?
|
shouldn't TL do some affiliated marketing with blizzard or something? has that already been approached and shot down >.>
