I decided today to stream some games and just play. Before I had a fear of ladder but I suddenly made the effort and now I feel comfortable hitting that search button.
I finally noticed today, after playing a chunk of games, that I am actually winning a majority. This realization came after I won twice against a very tough opponent who also happens to be a friend. These games are explained below.
I really just realized that I have been improving, that I have been actually learning something by listening/watching day[9], playing the game, and analyzing my own gameplay.

Some background information:
I am a zerg player playing in the Gold league.
I seem to get placed against a lot of High gold/Platinum players which I assume means my mmr is increasing to that level.
I started out getting placed in silver and scraping by with a under 50% wlr. I started heavily investing myself in learning to get better and I finally feel I have done that.

There are 7 replays, lost a few and won most.
What I am really proud of are those games against DeDubz, they should be under "Donal" and be on iCCup maps.
Donal is a 1300 point diamond who commonly plays against 2500~ players.

I have no idea how, but I managed to beat him twice in a row.
I really just wanted to post this somewhere because I am actually happy with how I am improving, obviously not how I am playing as I still am a low level player.

If you have any comments, or have ever gone over that hurdle where you actually notice you have improved, I would love to hear!

Edit: Of those games I would like to think that my first against DeDubz was a very intense one. In general these games are quite "Nooby" but both of my Donal games were decent.

I'm pretty much the same as you, My new years resolution is to play more games tough ^^. And i also stream (But i don't have viewers, Neither do ineed them). Day9 is a great way to improve your skills, I've seen enough posts saying that 3k diamonds and even HuK have still great benefits of listening and watching Day9. And i bet everyone does. Haven't seen a single complaint thread "But Day9 Sucks" yet

I'm also a gold (Protoss)
Getting matched VS High Platinums, (Depending on only one or two games tough).

i'm also glad to see that you're improving and enjoying hitting the search match button . Best luck in your future matches and if you feel like playing VS me sometime. Or need a Practise partner (Not sure if im better or worse than you tough). Hit me upsometimes at NA servers.

For me it seems that I'll put off getting on the ladder, telling myself that I'll wait until I "feel up to it," until I finally just go ahead and do it. I've managed to see more wins by just hitting the ladder in blocks of games. I'll set the goal as say, 5 games, then watch the replays, a couple vods or some day9/mrbitter for the break. Hope you continue on your upward spiral and GL on getting ranked up again!

I think what has really helped me, via day[9], is just taking what he says and internalizing it, actually understanding it as opposed to just acknowledging what he says. I think a lot of people would improve from the lower leagues if they just took the step to look back at their gameplay and say "I am not doing the right things. I know what those right things are, thanks to day, and now it is time to put them in gear."
I think my biggest step was acknowledging that fact, the fact that what I was doing was not good and would not get me in to higher leagues.

Thanks francis, I definitely agree that a block style of play will help you out. It makes sense to me that taking a small break, to either look at the forums/listen to good streams and learn some new things, will allow you to see more wins then slamming out 4 hours of straight play. This is at least at a low level where you still have a lot to learn compared to the level of play of people like IdrA. People at that level already have most of the knowledge they will need in almost all match ups and simply have to practice for extended periods of time.
