No idea why the hell you would get an M5. Any M5 with decent options is going to run well over $90k and sometimes over $100k. That's just a ridiculous burden to put on yourself right off the bat or in 2-3 years. You would be much better off with an M3 though. And if you're buying pre-owned, don't forget that M5s are a bitch to maintain. Just my 3-series is a money-pit whenever anything needs to get fixed out of warranty. An M5 is much worse.
Congrats though! Hopefully, I can land a decent job out of college and get myself the 1M I want. I could afford it now, but it would be quite a stupid move to do financially speaking.

Bad grades. As in straight Ds and Fs across the board with an occasional A or B here and there. I thought I wasn't cut out for Civil Engineering at first, but then I realized, after trying another major, that I just wasn't cut out for college in general. I wish I would've realized that years before. It is awesome you pulled yourself together because college dropouts usually settle for shitty jobs/are lazy in general. Good luck men. No wonder interwiever took interest in you, autodidacts are not that common Haha, I am lazy though. I work well under pressure though, which is a good thing.

Yea, I know what you mean, but the allure of the M5 is just so strong to me. We have two 3 series in my family already: a 325i and a 330ci. My mind will probably change when I do eventually settle on actually buying a car though.

what kind of questions did they ask you during the interview?

Don't listen to them Spartan. Follow your dreams.

I can't really remember anything specific, but questions like.. how did I teach myself, why I did it, what are my ambitions, would I have difficulty adapting to the new atmosphere, if required to learn language X could I get on board promptly, why I want to work with them, what I did with VG, what languages I use, if anyone helped me work (engineering) on VG to get it to what it is today.. and then some more technical questions that were beyond easy and meant to make sure I wasn't some "script kiddie", such as.. what is the different between a FORM POST and GET, how well is my understanding of OOP.

You were living with your parents with a 2-3k income? Shit, I've been living on my own for a while, making no more than $14/hour.

What specific set of skills do you need to become an 'internet engineer'? I am studying for my CCNA, but don't have much web development experience apart from basic HTML
|
First off congrats, glad to see fellow TLers becoming successful.
When they hired you, they knew full well what to expect from a young, inexperienced but enthusiastic individual. Presently, I don't think they're paying you for the quality of work you produce right now per say, but for what they can make of you down the road after they guide you a bit. Taking you under their wing is something they're obviously prepared to do.
I know you don't need it, but good luck man.

grats dude, San Diego is a great place to live, and working in the games biz is ofc awesome
with that level of discretionary income, its probably time for you to be spending less time on TL and more out there impressing the ladies ^^
|
I just landed an amazing job too! Woohoo!

The position I got required that and back-end languages, such as PHP and MySQL.

I know you don't need it, but good luck man. Yea, they acknowledged that they were taking a big risk with me (lack of experience and all), but were willing to take that leap of faith based on what happened during the interview and their impression of me.

And I don't need to impress the ladies, already have a beautiful girlfriend of 3 years that plays SC2 with me

yeah i saw this too. obviously this guy has no sense of personal finance especially since he just got a new job and wants a $100,000 dollar car
welcome to the middle class financially struggling club
which im not in i might add

So quick to assume things and make judgments off of those assumptions. I never said I wanted the car right away. Obviously I'm smarter than that.

congrats! it's very hard to land an engineering/computer job without a top notch resume. and kudos to your impressive entry level salary.
|
Thanks! Yea, it's actually a really high salary now that I compared it to others that have been in the industry for years.
