So I just bought another copy of the game yesterday so I can make a separate account and random in peace.
I did this because every time I off-raced on my main account I would lose and it was just frustrating to lose hard earned ladder points to opponents I would have otherwise dominated. I just want to have fun and play some fair 1v1's as my off-race! If I'm a platinum Terran / Toss but a diamond Zerg, then why am I forced to play diamond level opponents as Terran and Toss?
The funniest part? I made both identifiers named 'greatfall'. So in effect I have two separate CD keys and B.net IDs with exactly the same name.
Has anyone else contemplated doing the same?

Waste of money imo unless your second account is in different region.

I totally have. Want to have one main account that I play with frrends etc, and one that I can mass games just by myself, and not care about my record.
I don't know what it is, but for some damn reason I am afraid of losing on my main account. Im like mid platinum, so there is no reason why I should care, yet I do.

Meh, I have plenty of money that's not the concern. The point is I want to play fair 1v1s with my off-races.

Still makes me rage that this is what you have to do to have a 2nd account.

Plenty? Please, buy me my first copy of SC2. I haven't been able to afford it yet.
Isn't custom a good place to play random?

I really hate this concept on Blizzard's part. Having only one account per cdkey may be perfect for a MMORPG like WoW, but it's utterly frustrating for a competitive game like SC2.

I did this without thinking about it, bought the regular version added the key to my account. Then I found a copy of the Collectors edition while at work. I reserved it bought it and had two cd keys to use.
I love it. Playing games while random and just work on my weak areas. Ie: I have to fast expand every game and make it a macro game. I lose a lot but I win a lot as well. I am around 51% W:L ratio doing this.

customs are only good to a certain extent. If you want decent practice, then the ladder is the far better choice, as with customs you have a high chance of playing someone in bronze or silver, and you have no option to leave the game or wait for a better opponent due to blizzards stupid 30second countdown as soon as you join the lobby.
|
I believe you need a good chain of friends you can practice with. If I were to buy another sc2 for a random account I would certainly be doing it to see how I could progress over the ladder. It's a genius idea really.

Man could you PM me a guest pass from your copy?Would love to try the game out Thx

lol, and thats why blizzard made it so that only 1 account per cd key. if some ppl are willing to pay for multiple copies, mind as well exploit the masses!

I agree, although protip: if you want to leave the custom game after the countdown has started, just click menu and logout, then log back in. Everytime I hit a ZvZ, they always do that.

I generally FFA or TeamRandom when I want to off-race and still end up playing Zerg in TeamRandoms because I have respect for my teammate that I don't know shit about. But, I just off-race on FFAs and I still can DT-rush or mass thor the shit out of everyone :D

you can just play custom games
LT is usually full of noobs but i can always find good diamond players on metalopolis.
|
Now you have to buy two expansion packs as well... two times!!
hf with that

You care about ladder points more than actual money. That's just sad imo? :/

I care about having fun more than some money. I don't think the ladder points are the main problem. The problem is that if you off race, you will never have a fair fight unless you just lose a shit ton of games in a row and bring your rating down to a level where you can have fun and fair off-race games (and then you're screwed when you want to be challenged playing your main race!). So yea, I don't find it fun to off-race and get completely raped do you?
As for the money, I didn't bust my ass in college followed by 6 years of graduate school to earn my Ph.D. followed by several years on postdoc training so I can be in a situation where I worry about 50 bucks.

If I had the money needed to cover all MY needs, and have extra, I'd buy a bunch of accounts for myself and my brothers and friends.

Yeah, it's frustrating, but I'd rather have this kind of problem than say, mass smurfing. Some smurfs are good to play against using the whole "better competition makes a better player" argument, but then I really think of my year and a half on iccup. Playing against so many smurfs was great for competitive purposes, but what if I don't want to be a competitive gamer? Eliminating this option, though making it a little harder for competitve novices to improve faster, makes the game more accessible to the majority of layed back gamers.
