So sad that a catastrophe of this scale happened.. It really is scary thinking of how much oil is getting dumped into the ocean
|
Really depressing. But if we imagine this is bad, you have to read this article. It talks about how each year for the last 50 years Nigeria has experienced oil spills equivalent to the exxon valdez spill. Really opened my eyes.+ Show Spoiler +http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/17/world/africa/17nigeria.html?scp=2&sq=nigeria&st=cse
Edit: Posted this in the other main thread of discussion on this but it was swept aside amongst other posts and I thought this might be a better place to post it. Hope this isn't spamming or anything.

I believe that whats being spilled is like less then one percent of the United States daily use of oil.

impossible when so many people need gas.

i wrote a paper about this for APES few days ago

And the terrible thing about this spill is that it was caused in part by the deregulation of drilling by the Bush administration (have been told). I'm a little more left so more government control is in my agenda... but I think a lot of people understand that this is not something you leave to the businesses to decide.
