Listening now, already impressed with production values.

EDIT:

Really like the IDM (although it not very glitchy), very well mastered with great use of panning.

Dance song is....not very good. Mastering is messy here, your kick and clap are weak and are being eaten my a mass of bland saws...its got no umph and no drive. The orchestral/pad in the intro is far too loud compared to the saw/lead, its a mess.

The last one is really great up until the ~1:36 area transition. I though the vocals fit very well and didn't ruin it at all. Then at the transition things start getting a little clashy and wierd. I really don't like the bell instrument you have start up to play your second lead (after 1:36), it just sounds super cheesy and stereotypical...just not liking the second half. Your lead gets way more fragmented and more "plucked" at the same time your drums lose there steadyness and get hesitant and the vocal starts glitching more. Its too much at the same time. I definitely would work on the 2nd half of this, but don't take the vocals out altogether, they are perfect for the first half.

What Software are you using for this?
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

Thanks for the objective criticism! I probably should have mentioned as a disclaimer, the dance song was more a joke I am not a big fan of dance nor do I understand anything behind writing it.

About that last one, I totally agree. I got really rushed as I had to go to the hospital, a friend of mine wanted to hear it so I wrote something subpar. Still no excuse though! I will work on it, and I think one of the things that make it awkward is the leap from 4/4 to 6/8 Thanks for the excellent criticism!

I use a vast ocean of sound programs. My DAW is Fruityloops and I swear by it!

my main VST's I use though, which you should definitely try and get are ; Z3ta+, Zebra2, Nexus ReFX, Vanguard, and Smokers Relight

Cool, I produce music with FL too. I use Nexus and Vanguard quite a bit, Z3ta+ never worked for some reason, never heard of Relight or Zebra2, I'll check them out. Maybe I'll post some stuff on TL a bit later, I'm working on a collab with a friend over the summer, hopefully we will make some really neat stuff together...i always have problems with finishing songs by myself.

Are you using Dblue for your glitches?

was gonna type up a bunch more but sob3k basically read my mind like bachelor frog

reflections is really dope, i like your use of delay and the overall attention to detail. i have really old monitors so i don't know how accurate this is, but it sounds a teensy bit bright?

no real opinion on the dance track, saws give me a terrible headache so i couldn't finish it LOL

i think for nine days if you take out that synth in the middle that was pointed out and ease up on the autotune it'd work a bit better. i find the glitching appropriate though, though that's just preference really. it's a gorgeous track!

Are you using Dblue for your glitches?

i use dblue!

Yeah, relight isn't a synth, my bad! It's a pack of samples. A great one tooo! Zebra2 is definitely worth checking out! Link me to some of your stuff

And I use dBlue sometimes. On reflections I do at that huge chorus part, but I usually do glitches manually. Track splicing and granular subtraction.

Thanks man, I feel ya! dance can get a bit nasty. LOL

Yeah, I'll definitely keep working on it because the beginning 6 seconds rock my world.

dBlue is definitely sweet. Cool trick = set the reverser* to 0 and 0 then ping pong. Makes a bad ass glitch buzz. AND, if you make a beat and run it all in dBlue then automate right to 0 from 50, you will get an awesome sound ;o

Hey. I produce music too.

When I saw your blog I thought I had recognized your name. Then after checking, I found that you & sob3k both posted on the thread about the guy who was making a first keyboard purchase. I guess I had made a mental note about TL'ers who know stuff about audio haha.

I enjoyed the Reflections track. The intro was super solid. Kudos on the drum programming, I'd be curious to know more about how you did that (e.g. did you program all variations in a step-sequencer, or more using fx kinda thing).

Good stuff, definitely keep producing!!

Cool stuff! I would also be interested in what you use to make the drum beats. I have always been interested in getting into this kind of stuff, but i've never known how to get started. Have you taken classes on music production? Or do you have any resources for an aspiring noob?

I start off with a large library of kicks, I find two or three that suit my mood I am in, usually all contrasting. Like a low bass one, a poppy one then a noisy one. And I do the same for snares and rimshots, then highhats open and closed, then shakers, then effects.

I usually end up with about ~35 percussion instruments. Then I loop the melody and write what I feel works. After I get the main skeleton of the beat, I clone about 4-8 copies and make variations, with less sound or more sound with glitch. Then I write transitions with the beats.

Last but not least, I mix all of the instruments as if it were an actual acoustic kit. For stuff like that, lots of reverb on your percussion instruments is where ya want to be!

I'd recommend getting a sound pack refill called Smokers Relight, It's like 12 gigs of samples!

and I don't take classes on Audio production, but in the fall I am moving to Bloomington and studying music composition.

I love the 3rd track, just thought I'd leave a comment of appreciation.

I'm a Reason user, would you recommend me to try out FruityLoops?
What's do you think are it's better uses?

reason is nice, but fl studio allows you to use virtual plugins which allow your alot more creative freedom. aswell as usefull mastering tools/effects. but hell, you can always rewire reason into ableton ect.

i just started using software to record my own music, so i wanted to know what you would recommend for a beginner? i'm currently using ableton live 8 and i want to look for something that's easier to get started with.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Reason is good and very versatile, but I prefer Fruityloops, you can get some amazing vsts, and reason can not. :[

ableton is super easy and powerful after just a little bit of playing around. i think it's the most intuitive of the daws, but everyone says something different i suppose. after 6 months of ableton without any prior recording experience i've been able to put together the stuff in my sig link!

Some quality stuff you have there Lethargic. Love the beat driven flow of reflections, it almost has an 8 bit feel to it, which mixed well the lead synths. The melody in Nine days is beautiful, and it sounds great how it is, but a little polish and maybe an additional minute would help it reach its high potential.

Was digging your stuff too Intrigue, very catchy and relaxing (loved the slidey guitars, strings and such)

My band went on hiatus earlier this year and I've been making some solo stuff the past several months. Have been using VSTi's and midi mainly, arranging with Acid pro 7 (FL studio rocks, but just something about AP7 I prefer)

Can check out several tracks HERE if interested.
The pretty things are going to hell, they wore it out but they wore it well
