Starcraft 2 will be good aslong as they aren't as ignorant as they were with WC3.
Starcraft's success was thanks to the players and constant renewal of maps. I think as long as Blizzard listens to the players (*cough* high level players *cough*) and keeps the game fresh with new maps, tournaments and patches im pretty sure Starcraft 2 will be a worthy successor of the throne.

I'll buy the game when the majority of people in this site buys it.

Also as a Korean i take offense to your belittling tone of speech: "little turf in their little country"? Surely you've heard of companies like samsung and LG from our "little country" that aren't so little

who cares if blizzard is the one who made the game. so are they also going to sew everyone else who hosts amateur tournaments who need profit for venue fee? its obvious blizzard is just a fucking greedy ass company, just look at world of warcraft. SPECIFICALLY made to consume your money. i was always a BW conservative, and why move on to a game less skillfully demanding as its original? another reason for me to boycott sc2

Not the same for everybody though. Personally I think I would have lost interest in BW several years ago if not for the Korean progaming scene and I'm sure there are plently of others on this site who feel the same way. If Blizzard ruins the Korean progaming scene I foresee SC2 ending up with a similar scene to WC3- not terrible, but not particularly interesting either.

Except kespa doesnt make a dime out of this other than advertisement.
Blizzard doesnt just want advertisement, they want money. They're taxing sponsors, games, broadcasts.
They both want control. I rather give control to KeSPA judging by Blizzard's track record.
Anyway, yesterday pretty much I decided that I'm not going to buy SC2 and pretty much not have anything to do with anything Gom TV related. This means that if OGN or MBC have to pay a dime to Gom TV, I'm quitting the SC scene.

SC2 is going to be an amazingly fun game for even just 4 way ffa's on crappy 6 player maps and also at top end. Just to lighten up the mood here! can't wait.

Somehow, the no-lan thing just derailed my anticipation for this game and recent developments caused me to decide not to buy the game at all...
well I'll just wait for someone to pirate it..and maybe put up lan..which blizzard will most probably tax..wait, why am I even thinking of playing this game..

I haven't ordered the game yet, and probably won't for a long time.
BW for life.

although i think most of the accusations here are right; blizzard being seemingly very greedy here, wanting total control.. i think that people are forgetting they did let everyone download and use their game for free, and still continue to do so. c'mon guys, sc2 is very new and fresh right now.. and blizz really does deserve the money.. what other gaming company can compete with them? hopefully someday when they are into newer games sc2 will become like sc1 and be free to all.

Out of the 100+ games i have played in my life, I have bought only 6 of them: SC, SC:BW, Diablo2, Diablo2:LOD, WC3 and WC3:Frozen Throne. I could have pirated them easily, but decided not to because I supported the company. This is not the blizzard i used to know, however, and they have lost 1 loyal customer for their acts. I also don't like the game, and they haven't been very successful in fixing it (unit voice/sounds and bnet mainly).

We all knew it was coming, but now that we know for certain that Blizz is content with ESPORTs in the form and shape of current World of Warcraft (ESL, gom, MLG then online ladder into Blizzcon as largest tournament), I'm out. I'll still play through the single player campaign(s) at a friends house or something, but I feel I can't reward this decision with my money.
I'm sorry if this is taken as inflammatory, but that's the exact word i'd use to describe Blizzards announcement.
I'm not encouraging anyone to do the same and I'm not expecting any sympathy, I just feel that it"s important in an ESPORT friendly community, the voices of all ESPORT fans are heard. Mine is one of them. Make sure you tell Blizzard why you cancelled your pre-order!

Yeah, I guess I'm with the majority of the people here. I'm probably going to pick up SC2 eventually, if only to play with friends with similar interests in Starcraft. With that being said...
Up until the end of 2009 or so, I had faith in Blizzard. Quite a bit, actually. I would say things like "Everything Blizzard touches turns into gold" and "Is SC2 going to be good? Of course, it's fucking Blizzard!". And I meant everything I said too. Growing up, Blizzard games were a big part of my life as a PC gamer, so you could say they had a special place in my heart. For the longest time, I thought Blizzard was "special", that they were the shining light in an industry plagued with mediocrity. I was under the impression that Blizzard really cared about their games, and most importantly, cared about the fans that continued to support them throughout the years.
Like I said, this was up until the end of 2009 or so. It's frightening how much of a heel turn my perspective on Blizzard has taken this past couple of months, but that's precisely what ended up happening. Lack of LAN, battle.net 2.0, the game itself... mild annoyances at first, but it all started adding up. I think the whole IP controversy was the point I finally came to the realization that Blizzard in its current incarnation is an entirely different company to the one I knew, loved, and grew up with. Now I realize just how gullible I've been, and I somehow feel like I've been betrayed.
I guess you could say I'm a bit... confused nowadays. A large part of me hopes that Blizzard proves me wrong, that they find a way to renew my faith in them. A smaller part of me already knows this isn't going to happen.
I'll chime in with a few other posters in saying that if they end up killing the BW scene, I'm going to be pissed off like you wouldn't believe.

I've cancelled my pre-order as well. Waiting until a few months after release to see if Blizzard gets their act together.
I'm hoping there will be an underground ICCUP-style community as well in which case I will probably play there.

Blizzard has seen something emerge from the game they released ten years ago that they couldn't have imagined even in their wildest dreams. This has accounted for the amazing quantity of sales in korea but blizzard now has their eyes set on opportunities of profit that lay within this newly introduced e-sports industry. Instead they'll end up killing it in the process.
