"The best way to train APM is to play Starcraft"

The APM Maps on this site dont really help imo. Im a Toss player who has a range of 70-120 APM. My problem is that I CANT USE MY 0-9 WHILE PLAYING STARCRAFT. my mouse moves 2x faster than my left hand so i come to a solution.

Play Starcraft with half Mouse sensitivity!!!
Thoughts?

Edit: when i ment i cant use my 0-9 (0123456789...), i ment im not comfortable using them. I NEED to use them to play better.

Best way to improve apm is to just load up a single player game and start spamming your face off till your averaging at least 250-300apm even if ur not doing anything useful training your hands to move that fast is more important than anything if your working on focusing improving APM from the low 100's.

Instead of improving your APM, you should probably learn how to be better at the game.

Play zerg and muta harass every game. It worked for me, no jokes. Went from 100-120apm to 160-180apm. My zerg still averages ~200 though

You could just send your units on attack-move, go back to your base to macro for a few seconds, and then position around/cast spells/do whatever during the battle. Take all of the little lulls where nothing's happening except units attacking each other to focus on making more units.

Even if you lose the battle, you'll have superior macro and more units for later.

Playing with half sensitivity is pointless. You have to adjust to the slow sensitivity and then if your left hand catches up then you switch them back... or something. Moving your hands is more of a mental thing. Try the BlueIris exercise where your entire goal is nonstop spamming to keep a certain APM in a game against a computer (use some APM counter like one with chaos).

Edit: If you can't use 0-9... why can't you use the numbers? Are you just not used to reaching up there? After doing it many times it should become second nature and then you'll get faster...

really hate these posts....

if apm means nothing why do pros average higher apm than amatures, why do they average higher than foreigners?????

im not saying there is some definitive 1:1 correlation but saying it means nothing is just dumb.

and i can for certain say that someone with 40 apm, it will be impossible for them to hit a-

APM= effort. Trying to make any more use of APM as a benchmark for anything is useless imo

Is there a 'base' apm that players need to be successful? yes. But that comes with time, not through force.

Improving APM takes a conscious effort, exercises involving spamming a high APM are supposed to get you used to the speed so you don't have to be focusing on APM all the time.
Make someone watch you play and yell at you to play faster!

your being stupid saying 'i can't use the 0-9 keys' that is a really stupid cop out, and frankly lowering your mouse sensitivity will do nothing but hurt your game. You are going about this all wrong, and i don't know how else to tell you that. just play more, and stop mental blocking yourself with I CAN'T 0-9

FOR GOD SAKES- this is the last time that i am going to try and help you.

USE YOUR MACRO KEYS. Stop saying you can't, and just make a conscious effort to start using them while you play. Start off only using 1-3 or try using F2 or F3 to get back to your gates. Christ you are going about this problem the way a 6 year old would. 'i can't use these keys like the rest of the SC community' 'i can't do it that way' 'i can't macro or micro'

Stop selling yourself so short. Even if you play really badly with your macros the first few times get over it and just keep practicing. Instead of F5in this thread every min, you should use your F keys in games.

Uh.. when you spam... what are you spamming? I certainly don't hit a s p o or whatever unit command key. Too scared of stopping all my scvs while I drag select all my miner scvs and stuff lol. I spam 12312312131 repeatedly o_O

Macro keys are whatever you use to get back to your production buildings. If you hotkey a building then that would be your macro key. (I use 2, so I double tap 2. Hotkeying a screen would be F2 or F3 then, like Misrah said)

Edit:

Apm is important, just watch any progamer. But doing an active effort to increase your apm just to increase your apm is stupid. What I can recommend you for improving your apm for the sake of carrying out your game better is:
Keep your hands warm. A good way to do this is fx to spam a bit in the start of the game, playing in a warm room and such kind of things. When your hands are cold you simply cannot perform aswell, and your apm will decrease in a way affecting your game.
Know what you want to do. If you got everything in early game planned out and are quite sure about your midgame plan, you will know which tasks you want to do. Knowing what to do is obviously not enough, but here comes your need for a potentially higher apm. You now have a clear need of a higher apm instead of a "man I can't win anything with an apm below 100"-attitude, and trust me, it'll help you improve your game so much more than beforementioned.

So really; when you play, know what you want to do (and I by no means mean a deep stategical insight, just like a basic BO and plan), see where your apm limits you and work from there.
Hope it helps -.-.

apm are important. but 0-9 + fkeys are more important for a protoss
a good way to learn how to do apm is to learn a build order and pratice it like no tomorrow

Why are you training your APM instead of practicing a particular matchup or build? Koreans with high apm spam moves constantly because they are performing micro and macro actions back to back.

If you have low apm chances are you lack micro or macro and you need to refine your mechanics which overtime will increase your apm.

Use your F-keys, Hotkeys, dont click actions you can use the keyboard (ie upgrades), etc

Play smoother, multi-task better, you dont need to spam (spamming doesnt make you a better player) and all of your actions should count for something.

higher apm comes from knowing the build inside out and knowing what to do with out thinking. you "can" train apm to some extent, but if you are constantly thinking about your next move or whatnot, you aren't going to be able to keep your eapm up regardless

why do you wanna use 9-0?

I mean, I use it for nexus and probes, and I never take my right hand off the mouse. Im fine clicking any keys with my left hand.
Maybe just use the left hand?

Anyway, a lot of protoss save nexus on 4-5 or even lower.

I think your special eye patch is eating some of your apm reiatsu.

Remove this when you are about to 'get serious' during a game. That should fix your problem.

Also remember, to use both hands, that is much more powerful than just using one hand.

Wearing bells in your hair and having a kid girl on your shoulder is probably making your apm lower too.

don't fight with people who wear masks. Of course you wouldn't know if its on iccup.

Also, try to take criticism positively instead of react like a kid to everything others say.

P.s. try to find out the name of your zealot's zanpaktou while your at it.

I sorta want training to USE the 1a2a3a keys which will raise my APM.

I lowered my mouse sensitivity so i can use my numbers more efficiently. I always have the urge to stop using what i hotkeyed and use my mouse for everything

seriously some of the things you're trying to tell us is useless if you don't actually use it. Don't go around saying "oh halp my mouse sucks cos i don't use the keyboard *whine*" etc. ad nauseum. Considering P is the easiest introductory race to start with i don't see why you would want to complain so much over something so unnecessary.

I sorta want training to USE the 1a2a3a keys which will raise my APM.

I lowered my mouse sensitivity so i can use my numbers more efficiently. I always have the urge to stop using what i hotkeyed and use my mouse for everything

(to paraphrase) then stop trying to use 1a2a3a and just USE 1a2a3a

seriously some of the things you're trying to tell us is useless if you don't actually use it. Don't go around saying "oh halp my mouse sucks cos i don't use the keyboard *whine*" etc. ad nauseum. Considering P is the easiest introductory race to start with i don't see why you would want to complain so much over something so unnecessary.

Now switch to T/Z =P

I changed from P to Z out of Boredom/ amazingness of Jaedong. I changed from Z to T out of Boredom. I changed from T to P out of Boredom/Frustration. Protoss is hard to use. when i ment 1a2a3a, 1a2a3a were just examples. i find it unnessecary to do anything like 6z7z8z since it takes a longer time to do that... im training to use my hotkeys so i can get my left hand to move faster on the keyboard. I never said i dont use my keyboard. i said i cant use my numbers...

Learn the piano or something. Or you could learn touch typing.

If you can't use 09, why not trying to use the progamer protoss method of keeping probe production under control? Basically they use F2 and F3 and F4 and center them around their first three nexus's. then they just cycle through like that. Although it isn't as convenient, since you play the piano it shouldn't be hard. Think of it like jumping from one chord to another or something until you're accustomed to the awkwardness first presented
