Unfortunately, this blog has nothing to do with the stuff you drink; I'm referring to rubbing alcohol.
I recently ran out of hydrogen peroxide as an aftershave. It's what I use because it works better than the more expensive (but better smelling) aftershave. The problem is that even though it's better than regular aftershave, it still leaves me with quite a bit of acne later on in the day and some more the next morning.
When I switched to just straight rubbing alcohol, my acne went away almost completely. The problem with this is that multiple sources say don't use this as a sanitizer for open wounds, which shaving creates, even if they're tiny, because the stinging sensation is from the rubbing alcohol killing living tissue. One of those sources even went on to say because you're killing living tissue in a small, but open wound, you're actually increasing the chance of infection, which in this context would mean an increase in said acne.
I am confused. Rubbing alcohol should, by all definitions, be giving me more problems than H2O2, but instead it's doing a better job. Even the day that I started using Hydrogen Peroxide again, I switched to a fresh razor, which should further decrease the number of white heads because there are fewer cuts, but again, there was an increase.
I'm so confused.

i think this can work but the problem is, too much of that stuff and it may damage your skin. rubbing alcohol is like 90~% alcohol?I think its doing something like just bleaching your acne. Or simply your acne was because of bacteria rather than clogged pores. Acne has many possibilities. Acne can come from your diet, oil/dirt on your face or bacteria and many more. Your acne might be caused by mainly bacteria so it works. But if this is used on someone that has acne from their diet, its not gonna do anything but bleach their skin. Im not sure whether this will happen but its just a good guess lo..

you should stop using rubbing alcohol if people are saying it's very bad for you, look for other alternatives. I use to have a huge problem with acne years ago but thank god it went away, I know tons of people that have tried a million different things but nothing ever works = \ so i feel your pain

See a dermatologist, get some medicated cream you can put on at night, and ask him about aftershave.

What about using isobetadine? Make sure you always clean your face before shaving and also make sure your "gilette" is disinfected.

strange that the hydrogen peroxide increases your acne. i'm pretty sure its found in a number of anti acne medications. i'd say just go with what seems to be the best for you, in this case alcohol. i don't know about the accuracy of your sources, but i think people use alcohol to rub over an open wound to prevent infections. kills bacteria if i'm not wrong.

alcohol works fine
my father uses either alcohol or cologne
he shaves daily too
edit: dont take advice like "if people say, do that". W/e works best for you, dont be paranoid about an "infection", who the fuck ever got infected from using alcohol for aftershave

All my aftershaves have alcohol in them, it burns like fuck sometimes, but who cares.
I really dont think getting alocohol in a wound increases the risk of infection, since it kills the bacteria, just keep doing what works for you. People say so many retarded things anyway.

change your diet. You can severely reduce acne by changing to a more healthy diet. Less junk food more vegetables

I would dilute it. I would be diluting your Hydrogen Peroxide too though so.. there you go.

It doesn't give me more acne, it just doesn't reduce the acne I get as well as rubbing alcohol does.

Hydrogen peroxide solution is 3% H2O2, 97% water. Anything beyond 6% and it starts eating flesh. I used to put a couple of drops of the 35% solution in some juice or water or something and drink it to help fight a cold.
Rubbing alcohol is 70% alcohol, and other than the stinging from a recent shave, all it seems to do is make my skin a little dry for an hour or so.

Why even use aftershave at all? And just for reference, most aftershave does contain a large % of alcohol. Never heard of using H202 that sounds weird and probably leaves your face feeling sticky,grimey.
Alcohol dries out your skin and can kill acne/zits but the problem is it dries it so bad that it creates new problems (more zits and ance) same thing with most acne stuff including that bullshit proactive which doesn't work (where the main ingredient is benzoyl peroxide).
After I shave I usually wash my face with warm water then switch to cold water and it shrinks all the pores and stuff.

After popping zits/pimples and cleaning, I usually use rubbing alcohol to kill any of the bacteria.

However, I disagree with the benzoyl peroxide statement. It's a spot treatment, so you only put it where you do have acne. Also, i read in this book that it has to be refrigerated so that it'll be cold enough to make your pores open and allow the solution to actually get in.
Yea, but basically there are specific treatments out there that deal with acne, and alcohol is like never on the list of things you should use haha. I had bad acne problems, but I followed the steps in the book above, and now I rarely break out and have a lot better skin in general.
If you don't want to bother to look in the local bookstore/library for it, the procedure is:
1: 2% salicylic acid cleanser
2: glycolic acid
3: 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treatment
4: spf15 moisturizer
I initially did steps 1-3 every night, with step 4 in the morning, but I stopped 4 after awhile because I got lazy and I stopped 2 when I ran out of it. But by that time I stopped breaking out so yea, I think it works.
