I'm complaining when the police break the law. I'm leaving website feedback for awhile now, as I'm angry from dealing with this nonsense and it's not good for my health. and you are strawmanning. you are shitposting. shame on you. My complaint is that the police said the guy who was going the exact same speed as me wasn't speeding, despite that we were next to each other and going the exact same speed. In that situaiton I'd be fine with the ansewr of "we could only stop one of you"; but the answer of "he wans't speeding" is not acceptable.
The point is that the guy wasn't going the exact same speed as you - you just happen to think so. And you are wrong. It has even been explained to you how you are wrong (overall posting behavior, context, accumulated infractions).
But thanks for once again giving me the honorable "zlefin-deemed shitposter" title. As always I take it as a compliment. I hope you never get even the smallest modicum of power over others in life as you wouldn't know how to wield it. I have no interest in recommending other political forums to you because you are a shitty contributor. Go find your own.

Bigfan is definitely one of the most reasonable and level-headed mods who are actively moderating the US Politics thread. Even when he actioned me I can't say it wasn't reasonable to do so. I find this line of complaint to be remarkably shallow and whiny, and I really recommend just shutting up and moving on.
I do hate it when (1) of the commandments is used as a sort of "if you don't like it then just leave" commentary because that is just a remarkably bitch comment in general. Though in this case it's more like "this guest who complains about fairness is just shitting up the house" which is definitely more reasonable to object to.
Do quit it. This freakout to getting rightfully actioned is just annoying.

honestly you literally can't reason with him because he's right and you're wronga shitposter.

not reading any responses since my last post; but wnated to add that I fear and assume that the last days' debacle over danglars will get glossed over and ignored. despite accusations by both sides of the other engaging in bad faith arguing, the plan will be to not get to the heart of the matter and figure out the truth, but instead try to maintain social order, or the appearance thereof, by ignoring the issue and letting it pass (where instead if festers due to being unresolved).

This fighter is taking all challengers. Right wing posters, left wing posters, or mods. He will fight the good fight until his innocence is recognized and injustice punished.

zlefin is at least useful in that he can make the whole thread agree on something

Heaven forbid a hot button topic be talked through. Maybe once all the anger and outrage is spent we might learn something.

yeah i mean it's a touchy subject, right? in this regard i finally feel for Danglars, being the focus of the hostility and appeals to extremism. i can sit here see it and disregard it as, well, it's not an easy thing to talk about. but that's easy to do from my seat.
in the end though it's always nice that we can even entertain the discussion in some kind of productive manner. seeing how and why others think here is fairly important.
on one hand i hate that i can't say anything of TLs conservative user base without it really saying 'danglars.' it sucks calling out particular users when it's not the user himself i want to be talking about. on the other hand, it's still better than talking to xdaunt.
can't always get whatcha want, but clearly he's what we need. 🎶

There were actually more conservative posters originally. Some got banned, but quite a few just got tired of the hostility and left.
|
There are a few still around and make their voices known. I find talking with them more productive than the two most well known posters.

"If you can chill, chill."
I think there are diminishing returns on labelling people shitposters. Done too frequently and the category starts looking more like 'people I disagree with' rather than a useful distinction. That is unless the thread really is entirely filled with the like, in which case, I guess we've failed.
But the reality is I don't know if there really is anyone in the thread currently that cannot be engaged with at least on the level of a clarifying question. Many times people get heated and snippy, conversations shut down or get locked up, and people should probably take a break. But most will respond positively to genuine perspective seeking questions- I think Drone gets some of the best responses from conservative posters, despite Drone being quite far left. And I think it has everything to do with his approach. The reality is, you cannot control how other people respond, but you can control how you respond. (Really that's all you can control.) Labelling all and sundry shitposters or aggroing a mod, might feel good, but I don't know if it changes anything, much less helps.

Drone and Falling are the best instances of leading by example.

Can someone explain why this post didn't result in a warning or a ban? I mean the most positive thing I can say about it is that he stops posting, but at the same time it seems completely out of line - especially considering that he didn't actually post in the thread for 200 pages prior and thus only posted to:
1. Broadly insult a group of posters 2. Single out posters to insult them
After which he ups and leaves. I mean the post was best left ignored by everyone (as it luckily was), but if shit like this passes without any form of action then I fail to see how respectful discourse can ever exist - even if it is just a thin veneer. I know it must have gotten a look as I reported it, but apparently I've completely lost any sense of what constitutes offences in the US politics thread, so I would just like an explanation so I know what to report and what not to report.

I put more stock in the words of Islamic terrorists and Mexican cartels. At least they're consistent and have some base, albeit twisted, form of integrity.
That's all. This thread has been an exhausting display over the years, watching some well-meaning people treat Fox News regulars with a sort of "fair and balanced" respect. People like xDaunt, Danglars, DEB, etc., who've just been consistently wrong about every single fucking thing from Iraq War, to criticizing Obama over any imaginary thing, to defending Trump, always denying and belittling what is terribly obvious, probably just because this is the shitty game their parents invested their souls in. It's a terrible waste. They won't change, they'll deal with Trump like they dealt with Bush: They'll pretend it wasn't them that voted for him, they'll call themselves "independent leaning-Libertarian" or some BS, and proceed to vote for the most blatantly amoral people in the civilized world.
I'm not saying there's anything that can be done to a relatively impartial, public, videogame-centered board to elevate this place into something better. There probably isn't. Continue conversing with these people who can only pretend to care about ideas that don't fit the Mantra. I'm resolved to not waste my time. Good night and good luck. /exit

Looks like a pretty easy target for moderation to me.

well that was quite a kerfluffle yesterday; I wonder if Kwark got any warnings. (or if anyone else did) *still not reading in here; just commenting, too angry to read.

I didn't see any warnings. Racism is a high tension topic, so I'm not shocked it was a bit of a shit show. It kinda ended with a reasonable discussion.

there are times where im certain english is zlefins second language, but then he busts out shit like kerfuffle.

Angry that there is essentially zero buy-in for your "I can do no wrong but everyone else is a shitposter" philosophy?
Christ, you don't even offer the slightest justification for things you bitch about.
