I've visited TL quite a bit, but now I've finally decided to start contributing some content. Since I play random, while setting up my account, I simply clicked the fourth radio button to select the random icons. To my dismay, there was no radio button, and, even worse, there were no random icons. I found this thread and saw that no one was making random icons, but there were some good suggestions. I added all the ideas together and came up with this:

I used the SC2 icon set made by mmp as a guide for the color and sizing and such. He did a great job, so everyone should think about his set for SC2 icons, if TL decides to make an SC2 icon option.

I'm not very good with MS paint, so I don't know if they will meet TL's high artistic standards. But I tried hard and I think these look okay. If everyone likes them, then maybe they can be used as the random icons. Or if anyone has suggestions, I can add different ones/improve these.

I used SC2 critters to round out the last four spots. In case you cannot identify what the pictures are, here's the list for the first set:

EDIT #2: See second attempt above. After reading some feedback and thinking more about it, I made a new set of random icons. Are they better, same, or worse? Also, is the ordering good?

your proposed decals are top of the line, this up to the critters... i would have continued with d&d special dices or something else, however ending on the automaton

hope we get enough people unto this
however most players profess random is useless for high level of play... one MUST choose, humongous buuuuuuuullll, random rules

edit: just to clarify:
i'd take a dice with no change over having nothing

i'd take the decal tl settles on, i agree dice are not perfect replacement but this special feature exist in sc1 and 2, it's cool to be a part of this specific fringe... we do not deserve less... we however have to deserve it... wonder how long this debate has gone on tl? cause date of first posts about it will not even be it... dunno why they'd discard it in the first place

Nice effort put into those icons. However in my taste the dices don't distinct themself. 2 to 7th just look way too similar. The race icons should give a sense of progres. Those are more like: 'yeeh im another dice.'

IMO if you pick random, each icon should be 1 of the 3 different from whatever level you're at, since dice et al aren't actual units.

Giving a random race for each post is kind of misleading; if someone chooses Random, they should be represented as such. Using critters sounds like a cool idea, but there aren't really enough of them (just thinking in terms of BW right now, and mixing doesn't sound like a great idea). Maybe just a R or a question mark, with little stars to designate rank?

I like the idea. Why can't we have a dice, and as we go up in post-level, it becomes a different one? DnD style. IE: start with 4 sided, then 6, then 8, then 10, until 20?

I removed the question mark/coin/dice in favor of only critters. SC2 has just enough critter icons in the editor to get a whole set. I also tried matching the color pattern of random icons more with the existing icons:
